Wait, Was That Skyrim On Nintendo Switch?

Was that a sneaky look at Skyrim on Nintendo Switch in the trailer?

Yep! Sure was!
There was also a Basketball game on there at one point.
So it's a home console with a hybrid function, but it looks like it'll also play Wii U games since Splatoon was present, too. Whether it was digital or not is up for debate, but if not then that means it'll support disks, too.

Also, it showed traditional controllers as an option, so that should make those that wanted regular controllers when playing on a TV quite happy.

Neonridr3159d ago

and it put the analog stick back where everyone was used to it being. More like a PS4 / XB1 controller.

darthv723159d ago

The bigger question... will there be mod support for it? Where does the mod files store to, internal storage or to the game cart if it will support mods?

gangsta_red3159d ago

"it put the analog stick back where everyone was used to it being."

But the analog sticks are not symmetrical, I can see a lot of people's hands hurting because of this.

Neonridr3159d ago

@gangsta_red - I assume you never used an Xbox Controller?

Segata3159d ago

Gamecube controller was shown off well before original Xbox so Nintendo originated this position of analog. They created it. Xbox copied it.

DragonKnight3158d ago (Edited 3158d ago )

Skyrim is not confirmed to be coming to the Switch. Nor is NBA2K17. Bethesda and 2K worked with Nintendo for the trailer, but both have stated that that doesn't mean confirmation of any titles.

@Neon: Ask them. They specifically said it's not confirmed. In fact there is a new article now on the site that speaks about it.

Neonridr3158d ago

@DragonKnight - would seem odd that they would specifically show Skyrim if they had no plans of bringing that to the console. Same thing with the NBA game. I mean why show off the local LAN capabilities with a 2K basketball game, at a basketball court no less, if they had no plans of actually implementing the game they are showing?

Monster_Tard3159d ago

I doubt it will play Wii U games, the Splatoon game was probably just a new version for the Switch.

Aenea3159d ago (Edited 3159d ago )

It would be kinda awesome if it was backwards compatible with Wii U tho since I skipped that console...

I kept postponing to buy it and once I decided I would the rumours of the NX started!

wonderfulmonkeyman3159d ago

That or it will run Wii U games digitally. I suspect most third party games will be in that format too, if they go above a certain amount of dataspace.

Monster_Tard3159d ago

@woderful

Where would they even store the downloads though? It could support external HDD's, but that would seem a little impractical for playing it portable.

Kokyu3159d ago

I doubt it will be bacl compat with Wii U as it has no disc drive and uses those carts. Speaking of which how big could those games really be with that cart size? It was probably some virtual console version so you have to buy it again.

Segata3159d ago

New hair, visuals and they now have pants so looks like a sequel.

Munnkyman3159d ago

If you look at the hair it looks customizable. Which can't be don't in the original game

Segata3159d ago

NBA2k so a confirmed Take 2 game on Switch.

Kosic3159d ago

I remember reading that there would be a few Wii U games being re-released for the Switch (NX at the time), Mk8, Splatoon. I forgotten what else may of been on the list, was on Nintendolife, or a comment on here, I can't remember where I read it >.<

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory3159d ago

Nah that is not Splatoon from the Wii U. It showed a new map, extra hair styles and MUCH MUCH better graphics.

As for Mario Kart it basically a updated version of the Wii U version with the return of Two Item Slots, King Boo and possibly even more characters and stages.

conanlifts3159d ago

If it plays all wii u Games i might jump on board. Especially if they allow my previous digital games to work as my wii u died. Wouldn't mind playing xenoblade.

To be honest though i will probably jump on board anyway.

Zjet3159d ago

Splatoon characters had customisable hair. This is not in Splatoon. Most likely a Splatoon sequel or ultimate edition/port. I highly doubt it will play Wii U games

Blu3_Berry3159d ago

With all those 3rd parties listed at the end, we'll see how long that support lasts. Rembmer when the Wii U was released all the publishers and developers were praising it then disappeared within 1st year. If they phase out in 2 years then there is clearly something wrong.

Kokyu3159d ago

Thats a good move like VR wait and see

Segata3159d ago

As a handheld tho Nintendo handhelds get great support.

gangsta_red3159d ago (Edited 3159d ago )

I agree, it's easy to list the developers that make video games, that's a given. The true question is will support continue throughout the years.

Kosic3159d ago

That's my only issue. I would like to consider this for day one purchase, but with Nintendo, it's always been best to wait atleast a year and then purchase. I fail to do that, Wii U was day one, the 3DS was also day one, and both hurt my wallet more than they were worth.

gangsta_red3159d ago

Same, I bought the N64, GC and Wii day one and each iteration kept failing and failing until I learned my lesson and skipped the Wii U.

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory3159d ago

I am not sure about the western support but Japanese
Sega - Sonic 2017 and the inevitable Mario & Sonic
Atlus - Shin Megami Tensei, Etrian Odyssey and maybe Persona Q sequel
Platinum Games -Bayonetta 3, The Wonderful 101 sequel or a new game with Nintendo is possible
Bandai Namco - Pokken Tournament update maybe with Scizor and Darkrai added and some other games
KOEI Tecmo - Definitely going be either port or releases new titles
Marvelous - Senran Kagura 3
Level-5 - Yo-Kai Watch, Inazuma Eleven and other possible Ni No Kuni 1 and 2 who knows
Konami - ...............LOL
Square Enix - Dragon Quest X and XI and some Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts III
Silicon Studio - Definitely Bravely Third

I say Japan is going to eat the Nintendo Switch

OpieWinston3159d ago

You saw it like 3 times. Of course it was Skyrim.
Nintendo Switch has a ton of Third party support.

Hoffmann3159d ago (Edited 3159d ago )

I wouldnt call 30-50 developers a ton if the competition have around 300+ different developer studios on board.

@nibbs variation over the same 5 series since 20+ years man.

@otakudude The list will shrink not grow.

@Eddie pc is the best platform for indies

Nibbs3159d ago

Yeah... people also have about 400 friends on Facebook but only talk to roughly 7?

Quality over quantity silly man.

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory3159d ago

Uh it's early in the life.
Give it til E3. The Switch is going to switch.

EddieNX 3159d ago

Maybe there's even moe that they haven't announced. There will be tons of indie developingers

bangoskank3159d ago

I skipped Skyrim as I never had time to play it. This is the perfect platform. Will most likely finally play it now.

InTheZoneAC3159d ago (Edited 3159d ago )

never had time to play it for the last 5 years? hmmm....

ZeekQuattro3159d ago

Not so hard to believe or did you miss all the remasters that have been popping up. I never played a Duke Nukem game but now there is one on PSN and Live so I can. That game came out in the 90's so 5yrs for Skyrim is noting especially if you were like me and only had a PS3. Skyrim on PS3 was a mess much like FO3 GOTY. The whole reason why I skipped it was because of FO3 being a pain. Plus I'm sure most gamers have at least one game they meant to buy and never did for some reason. Next thing you know its years later and the remaster is out.

bangoskank3158d ago

That's right. I really don't have time for massive sand box games. Have a busy life. Surprised I still game. Switch will allow me to take something like Skyrim wherever I am. Good stuff.

solidossnakos3159d ago (Edited 3159d ago )

The perfect platform to play skyrim is PC
You can grab it for cheap + true mods support

Hoffmann3159d ago (Edited 3159d ago )

Eh..the perfect platform was and is the PC.

@Apocalypzeguy That was one of the worst comments I ever read here.

Apocalypze3159d ago

Someone get these "PC Master Race" people out of here.If PC is so superior and great why you guys looking for other consoles news??

Dasteru3159d ago

@Apocalypze:

Because we are not all fanbots like you. We are capable of acknowledging the benefits of one platform while still enjoying others.

Enjoying a Camero doesn't preclude a person from recognizing that a Ferrari is faster. Full mod support makes Skyrim best on PC, that is a simple fact regardless of prefered platform.

Elronza3159d ago

I can't wait to pre-order the Nintendo Switch! Unlike the Xbox Scorpio and Ps4 Pro the Nintendo Switch is truly a next generation gaming system ,and allows one to play their games at home and on the go! Unlike the PS Vita and Ps4 Remote-play the Switch plays it's console games native on the go by way of it's cards and on board storage! And they no longer have to make both handheld and console games just games! # Now You're Playing With Power!

2pacalypsenow3159d ago

Are you gonna be copy and pasting this on every article?

ocelot073159d ago

If it does not have a real Pokemon game then Nintendo can kiss my hairy backside. I would also like 3DS BC for it as well that would make me buy it.

Vedo3159d ago

Cant happen, no 2nd screen and no touch screen on the Switch

ocelot073159d ago

Suppose you're right.

Ahhh well probably won't get one then. I just want to play Pokemon games on my TV.

Apocalypze3159d ago

-Vedo

Am pretty sure game freak can implement a better Pokemon interface without requiring another screen, the Nintendo switch's screen is big.

Barricade3159d ago

there will be a Pokémon game for the Switch coming in it's first 6 (I think) months after release. At least that's what I read somewhere, don't really know where anymore. That's a big incentive to get this console for me too. But there are enough other first party games coming I'm sure that make this thing worth buying!

Skyrim is still my favorite ES game. I’m playing through it again right now since I never finished it.

jznrpg20d ago

Morrowind is by far my favorite. But I’m getting old and played Daggerfall Morrowind and Oblivion before Skyrim

Yeah totally. Definitely won’t be hacking it Nintendo 🤞🏻

Fallout and Skyrim show us that talented developers make great games when you leave them alone

That judicious lack of oversight permeated everything in Bethesda's RPGs, in a positive fashion.

Christopher59d ago

I much prefer a left alone Obsidian and Larian Studios. Bethesda's formula has grown old for me.

anast57d ago

Larian hit another level with DOS:2 and then took it even further with BG3. They do high quality work.

jznrpg58d ago (Edited 58d ago )

Skyrim was a letdown compared to previous games and so was Fallout 4

Kosic57d ago

I agree, I found it an interesting game. But nowhere near worth the hype (unless you include mods)

dmonee58d ago

Skyrim blew my mind when it released. That game took me to the gaming, promisedland. Going back to it when it was updated for the PS5, it felt slightly rough around the edges, but great for its time

TheColbertinator58d ago

We should leave Obsidian alone. Bethesda on the other hand should be kept under constant psychiatric observation.

anast57d ago

Skyrim feels like the game was made in a hurry with a disorganized team.
