I'd hardly call $810 (price with OS), a budget PC, lol.

ONESHOTV23167d ago

bluefox755---isnt that the same as paying 400 for a console every 3 year it even goes pass it if you included 60$ game price for 3 years plus paying for online. another thing i seriously dont get people when they say they are going to build a pc that matches consoles why in the world would you do that to yourself

spicelicka3167d ago

No console life cycle has been 3 years. Xbox life cycle was 4 years, xbox 360 life cycle was 8 years, Xbox one will be 4 years by the time Scorpio comes out but it will still have full support for 1-2 years. Online price is a good point, but with deals you can buy cards for $35 per year. Nobody buys every single game at $60 so that doesn't make sense.

At the end of the day if you're building a PC you're paying a lot more than a console, if you can afford that and want to do it then that's great.

bluefox7553167d ago

I don't know, I'm just saying, $800 isn't a budget PC. You can make a capable gaming PC that is comparable to consoles for about $400, that would be a "budget" gaming PC. I love PC gaming, I do most of my gaming on PC, you don't have to sell me on it. I'm just being honest about a misleading headline.

sullynathan3167d ago

Lmao, who the hell is buying a console every 3 years?

ONESHOTV23167d ago (Edited 3167d ago )

Jamesx82x---- so you are one of those not so smart consumers that praise paying for online lol you guys really need to stop becuase you really have no choice but to pay for online, another thing paying for games is not called getting it for free what happens when you dont pay for ps+ ? guess what you cant use any of those so called free games you get, i'm not telling you to throw away you playstation but be wise and get a pc as well it will surely open your eyes.

sullynathan-----"Lmao, who the hell is buying a console every 3 years?" who else but corporate slaves like you

Jamesx82x------ dude i'm a console gamer just like you and i can tell you those trade in deals you get are nothing so dont even bring that crap to me, if you were smart you would know that becuase the games are so cheap on pc we have no reason to sell them back becuase we already got them cheap and if you did run into a problem or you dont like the game guess what you can sell the game back so cut the crap and.

Corpser3167d ago (Edited 3167d ago )

"Who buys a console every 3 years" well people bought a PS4/xb1 at launch and buying PS4 pro/Scorpio are , and 3 years later probably ps5/xb? are coming

sullynathan3167d ago

I like how I ask you a question and you fail to answer a question. Fail on your part.

QUIMICOMORTAL3166d ago

No it isn't!

Even if people that bought a ps4 3 years ago, sells it to buy the ps4 pro, they wold still spend less money and they would have enjoyed their previous console for 3 years more that the person buying that PC today.

kneon3167d ago (Edited 3167d ago )

That depends on what you're used to. In over 30 years of building PCs, I don't think I've ever spent less than $1500, typically it's over $2000. I remember spending $2500 just on the RAM for one machine I built at work for video editing.

kdmitchell_toh3167d ago

I was going to come at you with an off the wall reply, but figured that was wrong.Instead, I wanted to ask what bout your personal machine and not your work PC. Those are two different things.

bluefox7553167d ago

And I wouldn't call any of those budget PCs either, lol. Budget is generally synonymous with "entry level", and you can get a capable entry level gaming PC for about half the price listed on the site.

kneon3166d ago

That's what I typically spend on my personal machines, But I'm a developer so my needs are not typical. If I include laptops, desktops and servers then I have about a dozen computers in the house that are still in use, plus a few old retired ones just waiting to be scrapped.

About 30 years I used to own a company that built high-end custom PCs, I only started it so I could get PC components wholesale for myself :) Back then a 30Mb hard drive would run you around $400, and the memory in your PC was a couple of megabytes. A really good PC has usually been around $2000 +/- $500, we just get a lot more for that money now.

But the need for high end PCs is diminishing. For most people, a PC from 10 years ago is still adequate for what they do. Unless you're gaming, or as in my case developing software and processing/editing video at 4K resolutions and above, then there isn't much need to upgrade.

nitus103167d ago (Edited 3167d ago )

They conveniently forgot the monitor as well as the keyboard and mouse, but I will give kudos for including the price of the operating system and a 256GB SSD although as a system disk a 60GB or 120GB SSD is good enough.

I am aware that you can get a cheap keyboard and mouse but if you are a serious gamer or even someone who aspires to be one you go for a decent one and a good one does cost. As for a monitor (also conveniently forgotten) yes I am aware that you could use the household TV but unless you are the only member of the household you will be in conflict with other members. A good monitor (say a 4K one) will also cost.

Also isn't 1TB for a gaming PC a bit small?

What about backup storage? - I bet that most people forget about this. From personal experience when I mention backup I get "Backup what's that?" or "Backup? Who needs backup". Sigh! it would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

Unless the person who is buying that so-called budget PC has the know-how to assemble and install the OS (admittedly this is stupidly easy but locking down Windows 10 can be a real PITA) they will most likely have to pay someone to do it for them. These are a cost as well and conveniently forgotten.

Anyone who is a serious gamer and knows how to pick, build, assemble and install the OS also knows that to get the best performance in games you have to pay for it.

Rude-ro3167d ago

? Consoles do not come with tvs so why would you try to put that in a price?
Keyboard, yes.
Mouse, yes.
Cables, yes etc
Do not get me wrong, anyone trying to piece together a cheap $800 PC will end up spending more in a year, but how is leaving out a monitor an issue?

NohansenBoy3166d ago

It's not hard to find a Windows 10 key for $20-30 though.

Corpser3167d ago

Xb1 at launch $500
5 years of xbl gold $300 (free online on PC)

Costs the same

JunMei3167d ago

Well, you can do work on a PC. PCs are for things other than gaming, you know. Plus it's cheaper to maintain and upgrade a PC over time than it is to buy a whole new console.

WheatBread3167d ago (Edited 3167d ago )

Here's a better build for over $100 cheaper http://pcpartpicker.com/lis... and you can save even more by going with an i3-6100 instead of the i5.

nitus103167d ago

Conveniently forgot the cost of the OS unless you like a green parrot on your shoulder or you run Linux. Also forgot the keyboard and mouse (a decent one is not exactly cheap).

What about a decent monitor (4K is not cheap) , after all you don't want to fight with other members of your household for the TV.

Also did you take into account the cost of assembly and installation of the OS? people who know how to do this would not consider such a cheap machine as a gaming machine in any seriousness.

Buying a cheap gaming PC is just that "cheap".

TheUndertaker853167d ago

...Why would you buy a 4K monitor if you're aiming to build a machine that runs 1080/60?

Nivekki3166d ago (Edited 3166d ago )

'What about a decent monitor (4K is not cheap) , after all you don't want to fight with other members of your household for the TV. '

Do you have to buy a separate TV (4K no less) for consoles so you don't fight with other members of your household for the TV?

'Also did you take into account the cost of assembly and installation of the OS? people who know how to do this would not consider such a cheap machine as a gaming machine in any seriousness. '

What utter drivel you argue with, it doesn't cost anything to install. Anyone with half a brain can do it, you make it out to be rocket science lol.

spicelicka3167d ago (Edited 3167d ago )

Yeaa $700 is not "budget". Xbox one can be bought for $250 easily. If you're paying the extra $450 just to go for a resolution and frame rate bump, then I personally don't see the value. If it a lot had more games like Star Citizen then that would be something.

If you already have a PC that powerful then that's great, enjoy playing the games at better performance. But you can literally buy an XB1 AND a PS4 for less than that. That gives you access to the largest selection of AAA games and you don't have to worry about optimization ever.

Psychotica3167d ago

The price of gaming consoles has nothing to do with it. It's talking about what would be a budget price for building a gaming PC. $700 is budget when you consider you could spend 10 times that if money wasn't an issue.

bluefox7553167d ago (Edited 3167d ago )

No, it's not, you can get a capable gaming PC for half the price listed on the site. It won't do 4k, or ultra/60fps, but it'll play modern games fairly well. If $800 is considered "budget", what do you call the $400 gaming PC? Super budget?

ONESHOTV23167d ago

spicelicka---"If it a lot had more games like Star Citizen then that would be something" lol that's a really funny comment my friend it's best you stick to your group then becuase you have no sense you know nothing.

nitus103167d ago

So far with Star Citizen, all I have seen are tech demos although admittedly they do look great. Still aiming for the high-end PC market which is relatively small is IMHO either arrogance, stupidity or poor business sense or some combination of those three.

sullynathan3167d ago

Scam citizen is eternal vaporware

TheOptimist3166d ago

Honestly, AAA games have become the most boring of all games- Overpriced, underwhelming, useless DLC and pre-order practices etc.

sullynathan3166d ago

sounds like Scam Citizen.

Jamesx82x3167d ago

At least this build had a case most leave that out. However its probably going to be hard to play Gears 4 without a mouse and keyboard and/or a controller. Most people building a gaming PC go for some sort of gaming keyboard and mouse which I dont know prices of so i'll guess $60+ for a combo there and if they want to game with a controller you could get a cheap $20 combo for keyboard mouse then will need to drop some money for a controller not sure what those are priced either so I will just say $60 for an XB1 controller from MS but im sure there are cheaper for PC.

Bladesfist3166d ago (Edited 3166d ago )

I understand not including the case, as everyone will want a different one. I started off with a £10 keyboard and mouse combo from tesco and got better ones down the line. Also I feel like most gamers have a ton of controllers. I have 3 - 4 keyboards and a few mice, 3 Xbone controllers, 1 DS4 and a 360 controller.

NohansenBoy3166d ago

Why would someone pair an i5 with a 1060? This build doesn't make sense.

NohansenBoy3166d ago

I made a mistake. I was thinking of the RX 460 at the time for some reason. Based off the recommended specs the 460 would have done just fine though and saved over a hundred bucks so you could buy a better GPU down the road though.

5 Video Games That Should Have Been Shorter, and 5 That Should Have Been Longer

GB: "Nailing an experience's length is easier said and done, and one way or another, these games left a little to be desired on that front."

gamingbolt.com
Petebloodyonion863d ago

I always have a problem with games that should have been longer when lasting 8-10 hours.
Here's a question I ask all the time when ppl say that.
How many times have you replayed the story of a great game like Tlou2, GOW, Final Fantasy remake, GTA, Zelda, or any other 20 hours plus game? and usually, the answer varies between 0 and rarely 1.

So what's the point of having great 30 hours plus games if you will never replay them because of level, section, grinding dragging too long?

Lifexline863d ago (Edited 863d ago )

I agree I’m not sure how people find the time to play all these games. 20 plus hour games are great but for me 8 to 10 is the sweet spot. Those games take to long to finish specially when you have a backlog of games waiting to be played. Plus 20 plus hour games always have downtime and unnecessary side quests that can be boring too much fodder imo.

Being on your phone is one thing you can access websites like this everywhere on your phone or mobile gaming. But games you have to find the time to play them. Which is why I don’t understand why so many people want like ten games it seems In a month.

LucasRuinedChildhood863d ago (Edited 863d ago )

I think you're missing the point a bit.

A game can be 8-10 hours long and use that time really well, but it can also only start to get good far into the playthrough and leave the player feeling short-changed.

Hotline Miami is only 4-5 hours long but it's extremely well paced and time well spent. But if only got really good towards the end, I'd want it to be longer.

Stanjara863d ago

You just look at trophies and se that around 20% or less actually finish their games.

CrimsonWing69863d ago

I've replayed all those games except GTA and Breath of Wild because I can never finish them.

The Last of Us 2 i've replayed 4 times. God of War (2018) 2 times, Final Fantasy Remake 3 time (technically Intergrade twice since went on Steam and I wanted 100% achievements), and if we do want to bring in Zelda I've played Ocarina of Time probably 4 to 6 times a few times on N64, another time on 3DS, and twice on virtual console Wii and Wii U.

I am sure I'm not alone in replaying long games and honestly it's like I'm finished within a week or two and that with balancing responsibilities and a social life. Shorter games take even less time.

BrainSyphoned863d ago

Without mentioning Skyrim.. I've got two platinum trophies for Persona 5 and am playing it on game pass right now. Beat FF7R on normal twice and hard once and will play it again before the next one. Non story games- MHW I've made characters on PC/Xbox/PS with at least 600 hours on each platform. I don't care to play a mediocre games that are 8 hours long. The reason my backlog is so long isn't because that many good games are released each year it is because I replay the best ones over and over. Same deal with audio books. I've gone through book series multiple times every time a new one is coming out.

Soy863d ago

Disagree with Days Gone - yeah it took a while to really get going, but I appreciated it when I was done. Jumping right in at 4-5 hrs or whatever would've made the rest feel less impactful. RDR2 and Mankind Divided felt just right too, I wouldn't change them at all.

What needed less time was AC Valhalla. I was more than ready to be done with that by the time it was 2/3 over. Just too much useless stuff, and I hated the Asgard sections.

Ranking The Gears Of War Games From Worst To Best

The Gears of War series has been a consistent deliverer of quality for Xbox, but which games are the best?

culturedvultures.com
KicksnSnares1088d ago

Gears of War is my favorite video game franchise, and the Locust is my all-time favorite faction.

My rank list:
1. Gears of War 2
2. Gears of War 3
3. Gears of War 1
4. Gears of War 4
5. Gears of War 5
6. Gears of War Judgment (No Locust in multiplayer was a disgrace)

ChasterMies1087d ago

Agree 100% with this ranking. The campaign in Gears of War 2 is among the most fun campaigns ever made. It’s been downhill from there.

Zombieburger6381087d ago

I’d say gears 2 and 3 are pretty even. I absolutely loved both of them.

darthv721088d ago

2 is still my favorite but 5 is also up there (for me). Then I'd say 1, 3, 4 and Judgement. Tactics isnt the same type of game, so it seems odd to rank it among TPS when its a strategy game. So I make that one all its own. Pretty fun game too.

Jericho13371088d ago

The first is and has always been the best one imo - the story, the levels, the set pieces, the soundtrack - as close to perfect as a campaign can get.

I’d say the series had been on a continual downhill slide until 5.

Om4ever1087d ago

Naaaan ... 2 is the best by far

MadLad1088d ago

3
5
2
1
4
Judgement

I love the series as a whole, but 4 was pretty by the numbers, and Judgement was just ok.

LoveSpuds1088d ago

I played them all since picking up a Series X about 7 months ago. Personally, I don't think time has been kind to the earlier games and they feel very slow and repetitive to play. Whilst the newer games may be prettier, they stick with the original gameplay mechanics too much in my view so as a whole series of titles, I think they are pretty average games.

Not to say they weren't fun and I have a lot of nostalgia for 1 and 2, I just think there are far better action games out there.

It's brilliant but personally liked part one more. It's the only one that had a near horror movie vibe to it in parts, the atmosphere was amazing.

Also, the commercial for it was 🔥🔥🔥

https://youtu.be/wy8LRlS1SC...

Neonridr1221d ago

Mad World was such a perfect song for that trailer. I loved part 1 too just because it was so fresh at the time. The series has been solid, but experiencing everything for the first time was pretty awesome.

ChasterMies1221d ago

Gears of War 2 has one of the greatest campaigns of all time. Carmine, all that juice, fighting inside a giant worm, and riding monsters.

Knightofelemia1222d ago

Gears 1 and 2 will always be my favorite Gears titles. The scene where Dom find his wife and then has to shoot her was an epic scene.

monkey6021221d ago

I always found that scene laughably bad myself. Fantastic game though.

1 will always be my favourite. Most were great with the exception of 4 being okay and judgement being terrible.

They still have the most satisfying headshots from any multiplayer game around.

lucian2291221d ago

Nah I laughed, the acting was soooooooooo bad

KicksnSnares1222d ago

My favorite Gears game list
1. Gears 2
2. Gears 3
3. Gears 1
4. Gears 4
5. Gears 5
6. Gears Judgement

Gears Of War is my favorite video game franchise. I can’t imagine how Gears 6 will look in UE5 after watching Hellblade 2 gameplay trailer

RetroCaptainSteve1222d ago

Or if they remake 2 and 3 with that engine.

KicksnSnares1222d ago

There is a rumored Marcus Fenix collection (Gears 2 & 3 remake) in the works at the Coalition. Hopefully, it’s true, but I doubt it.

Profchaos1221d ago

For me you can't beat gears 1 the original was so fresh and revolutionary at the time.
Then basically I'd rank it 2,3,5,4 and judgement

Viljong1221d ago (Edited 1221d ago )

One of the reasons why i got the series x. Been fan since the first game.

myfathersbastard1221d ago

Played them all recently on gamepass. Great games. But my favorites gotta be gears tactics. Don’t know why. I just had a blast with it lol
