Mafia 3's first PC patch does little to improve the game

Mafia 3's bad day on PC seems to continue even after the first patch rolled out. Tested at recommended requirements with an AMD R9290 OC version.

We would love some feedback from Nvidia users, do you have the same issues, or do you clock a smooth 60 fps?

Choc_Salties2909d ago

I'll want to play this soo badly regardless of 30 or 60 fps... just need to finish all the other games I've got to get through!

MakieCoco2909d ago

The PS4 version unfortunately suffers from similar issues. The game looks great at times, but sometimes its an eyesore. Reflections are terrible in the water, and environments pop in and out. Even distant field of view becomes an eye sore when trying to take in the beauty of the open world.

SniperControl2909d ago

I cant even play it, plagued by constant crashes, i have given up playing and have contacted Sony for technical support.

Games in this condition should never be released, surely all these problems should have been picked up in Q&A way before the game released.

MakieCoco2909d ago

Damn. That is bad. It does feel like a tech demo to be honest. Like they have not polished up the engine enough before release. It is a shame though, as I think it is an awesome game, but the bugs and shoddy visuals make it less appealing.

Allsystemgamer2908d ago

It's going to hurt their bottom line. I think they wanted to release it BEFORE the AAA rush but they should have delayed it instead. Would have had more polish AND little competition for sales.

Damn suits.

quent2908d ago

I think the Q&A teams with the game testers have been let go along long time ago, and not just with the development of mafia 3 and their game studio, that's why so many games these days are so buggy or broken day1, also why I get so angry when publishers announce that they're games have gone GOLD weeks or even months ahead of the games release date, when I know 90% of the time that's not the case and that there's going to be a day 1 patch, which makes the going GOLD statement completely pointless and dishonest to begin with.

GLITCHED_2908d ago

It's as if it has somehow become okay to release unpolished or even broken games.

So much the same as the PC version. Unbelievable. Next to No Man's Sky, Mafia 3 is our biggest disappointment of 2016.

1080p 60fps works fine for me on highest settings on an i5 3570k @4.2ghz, 16gb RAM & GTX1060.

Have absolutely no idea what all these people claiming it's not even possible to achieve 1080p 60fps on a GTX1080 or Titan X are on about. Seems to me like it's people trying to spread BS.

To be fair though the patch does look like it's slightly cut back the graphical detail though. The skin pores & blemishes seem to be a little blurry now where it was almost photo-realistic in some cases before the patch.

Allsystemgamer2908d ago

Just because you have problems doesn't mean others don't.

Jim sterling did a gameplay video with his 1080 and it was constantly dipping down below 50 when nothing was happening.

It's not BS just because it's not affecting you. The game is riddled with issues which is a shame because I was going to pick it up.

1nsomniac2908d ago (Edited 2908d ago )

I agree with what your saying I'm not saying others can't have issues. What I specifically said was that there's a huge portion of people claiming it is simply impossible to achieve even 1080p 60fps no matter how top spec your rig is. Simply saying there's a lot of BS being spread about the game.

GLITCHED_2908d ago

From other feedback it seems Nvidia cards have it better than AMD.

slappy5082908d ago

I've found I can't achieve 60 fps on my gtx 970 unless I'm inside a building. So for now I've reverted back to old settings as it's much smoother locked at 30 fps for me and a higher graphic setting. Good game but poor optimisation

GLITCHED_2908d ago

It could've been a great game.

slappy5082908d ago (Edited 2908d ago )

Yeah I'm probably going to pick up Gears of war 4 on pc and move on, analysis suggest its well optimised just have to buy extra data for that 80gb tho -_- I will play this to the end, I think the story is really good

Agreed....game was fantastic. Especially as a person of color, I enjoyed the side missions.

I'm Black myself, which is different from Lincoln who is bi racial. (It's trendy to ignore that mixed people are half White for some reason) What would color have to do with enjoying a game like this? Imagine if people playing God of War were like "Gee, I'm enjoying playing as a White person right now". If we want others to relate to things other than skin color, we have to start setting an example as "People of Color" (That term is so stupid btw)

InklingGirl802d ago

I wonder if this comment will get removed like mine? It shouldn't but I'm just curious.

LucasRuinedChildhood802d ago (Edited 802d ago )

"What would color have to do with enjoying a game like this?"

Skin colour matters a lot in the story and setting of Mafia 3. It even affects the gameplay.

The comparison to God Of War doesn't make sense.

I'm Irish (as in, a person born in Ireland), and I'd probably enjoy a game where you can fight in the Irish War of Independence ... a bit more than the average Brit. lol. Who cares? If a British person "Imagine if ...", I'd just laugh.

LucasRuinedChildhood802d ago (Edited 802d ago )

*said "Imagine if ..."

Also, it is cool when you play an Irish character in a game who doesn't put on a leprechaun accent like Tom Cruise did. "Shannon! Tell me you like my hat!" https://youtu.be/eKrEVWGTuR...

Terry_B803d ago

nah..its mediocre and repetitive.

Demetrius803d ago (Edited 803d ago )

I played it once and it was very frustrating compared to mafia 2 I like to enjoy games not get raged all up 😂😂

XbladeTeddy802d ago

It was repetitive and boring. Not a good game at all.

Yi-Long803d ago

The game looked interesting, and from the trailers it seemed it had a great soundtrack, but the buggy release (AI) and disappointing reviews made me pass on it. No idea if they ever fixed its shortcomings post-launch.

XbladeTeddy802d ago

They could only polish a turd so much. Wasn't good at release and isn't good now.

MadLad803d ago

Weakest game in the series.

AuraAbjure802d ago

People said that about Wolfenstein:Youngblood. I played youngblood and it is a masterpiece and so awesome and entertaining and badass, with ray tracing too. Is Mafia 3 a great game on its own merit? I understand compared to the other Mafias, you feel it's weak.

MadLad800d ago

I respectfully disagree.

GTA V, Mafia, and Red Dead Redemption 2 VR mods are dead – and Take 2 Interactive killed them

From VG247: "If you’ve been enjoying either Red Dead Redemption 2, GTA V, or Mafia: The Definitive Edition in VR thanks to some handy fan-made mods, we’ve got some bad news. Thanks to a DMCA claim by Take Two Interactive - the parent company of Rockstar Games and 2K - has led development on the most popular VR mods to grind to a halt.

This news comes via Luke Ross - the sole creator of a variety of VR mods for the aforementioned games - who released a lengthy post to his supporters. In it, he claims to have received a DMCA request from Take Two Interactive for his projects and that the company requested that he “remove all their copyrighted works from [his] Patreon page”. This was confirmed by Kotaku who reached out to Patreon directly."

Orbilator805d ago

Get the mods on a torrent site and tell the world were they are.

Duke19805d ago

I mean, if he was modding a game that someone else built, and charging for it on patreon - this seems pretty cut and dry for a DMCA.

If he was not profiting from it in any way though, would be nice to let companies let this shit slide more often

Top 10 Mafia 3 Characters

KeenGamer: "Mafia 3 has a huge cast of characters - good, bad, and both - but these 10 characters were the ones who stood out the most. With Mafia 3 set in the 1960's, these characters are influenced by the ever-changing times and the people surrounding them."
