The reviews for ReCore are in and opinion isn’t great, but how much of the blame is due to Microsoft’s promotion of the game?

Indie or not, I don't think the bugs that this game has shipped with would be acceptable from the sounds of it. Smells like a rushed game.

GrmpyolGamer 3203d ago

Hopefully they patch it. Game is still playable tho

Im sure they will. After reading the article I have to agree this is Microsoft's fault. Phil said this will be a new AAA exclusice Xbox franchise. Almost everything about this statement is false. They dressed it up in a CQI trailer and gameplay and succeeded in fooling a lot of folks. Of course, God himself can't be held to the same standard as Sean Murray. When Pill says take it they spread their legs and beg for more. But in all seriousness I want more straight gameplay instead of these overproduced trailers.

Maybe they'll offer refunds.

CrimzonRazor3203d ago

What bugs are you talking about Im about 6 hrs in the worst thing Ive seen is 30 to 40 sec loads which dont bother me at all. Its a charming and fun game thats got a decent story and cool gameplay not sure about theese bugs you are referring too please explain in more detail. From my 6 hrs id say its a solid 8 and there will be some who simply fall in love with it.

maybelovehate3203d ago

I am only around 2 hours in but same thing, no bugs that I have seen and load times aren't that bad.

Yup, its called hateback for the NMS fiasco. I am not sure what bugs people are complaining about, its a cool little game so far and I have not experienced anything like they are describing other than about a 20-30 sec load time.

G20WLY3203d ago (Edited 3203d ago )

20 second load times? Yeah, the reviewers are all lying. All of them. Game is flawless. Xbox exclusive, so perfect 10/10 and I love it.

Or just look at it as you would any other game and see that it is clearly rushed, causing technical issues, and attempts to pad it’s shortness with seemingly relentless backtracking. You should be able to quick-swap abilities and that is a MASSIVE oversight, which – coupled with the 60+ seconds of regular loading – robs this game of any fun for all but the blindest MS lapdog.

Is it a shame? Of course! But it is what it is and there’s no papering over these cracks with patches, because they consist of core (pardon the pun) gameplay design flaws and, well, bloody WAITING.

Kryptix3203d ago (Edited 3203d ago )

These kind of bugs and glitches.

Getting stuck in places, invisible holes, going through walls.

LOL The dark will always come to the light eventually. Nobody's fooling anyone here.

"Yup, its called hateback for the NMS fiasco."

No, it's called telling the truth and I provided that. Loading times way worse than better looking and better performing games.

jb2273203d ago

The long load times happen when you die apparently. Haven't played the game myself but we've seen the video evidence of those load times, and most of the people who don't seem to be having that issue have 2 things in common, they aren't too deep into the game & they haven't died yet.

Ra3v3r3203d ago

Eurogamer said it best when they mentioned it's basically a game from another time. To clarify my understanding of it, every review moans about back tracking and padding just to finish out the game but this was a common tactic back in the 90's and coming from the team behind Metroid Prime I fully expected to be retreading old areas to clear up collectables and access previously unreachable areas.

The load times must surely be something they can patch as they vary wildly when entering the same area. First time might take a minute, 2nd might take 10 seconds then it's all the way back up to over a minute again, it's bizarre. As for other bugs, I've heard folk moaning about frame rates but haven't experienced issues myself. Maybe the odd bit of microstutter, but this seems to be symptomatic of Unity.

SlappingOysters3202d ago

Was there any patch? I dropped out of the floor in one stage. And I played fro at least 40min before suddenly collectibles and loot suddenly appeared. I'm on a normal original Xbox - not sure if the S is performing better.

From the sounds of it? Seriously. Ignorant people come out in droves to bash a game they never played for "bugs" that the people that are playing haven't experienced? Makes sense. Those of you who haven't played it please explain these bugs to us who are not experiencing them. I'm quite curious.

ULTp0ltergeist3202d ago

Hope it's enough for a triple A sequel

CrimzonRazor3202d ago

Not sure why people think a game with this score is a bad game is it perfect No, but it is a fun game and well worth the 40 bucks, hell I spend that on coffee a weak its a good price for a good game

I honestly wouldn't blame Microsoft because they did their job and promoted the game. The rest was up to the developments teams which Lord knows why Armature and Comcept even chose Unity 3d for the engine instead of Unreal 4.

TheOptimist3203d ago

Unity offers more flexibility in terms of programming, that's why. Unreal is good out of the box, but you cannot customize it as much as you can Unity (According to a dev)

maybelovehate3203d ago

The flexibility part is sort of true. You can use languages like C# and Javascript with Unity. As far as actual programming graphics and physics it doesn't offer as much flexibility as Unreal. Unity is a fine engine at this point though. And Recore is a fun game.

TheOptimist3203d ago (Edited 3203d ago )

@CrimzonRazor
It's an indie dev. I won't take the name, but he said that for his idea to work Unreal was too complicated and gave him a huge FPS drop for what he was trying to do. Don't get me wrong, Unreal is a great engine and has powered many games in the past, but it comes to the personal preference of devs as well.

@maybelovehate
I'm not a game dev, I'm jsut a gaming blogger, so I dunno.

CrimzonRazor3202d ago

Gonna ask agian which indie dev who said this to you

Ehmmm, doesn't the game have issues that are not related to promotion? In any case: since when does promotion ensure higher review scores? Seems weird to me...

Godmars2903203d ago

It assumes - once assumed - that larger publishers contributed additional resources towards developing and polishing an indie title. It wasn't the "we got this and the other guys don't" PR BS which this game and No Man's Sky have come to exemplify.

Aenea3203d ago

But the article talks about promoting the game, not contributing or did I glance over that?

In any case, promoting a game or not doesn't necessarily give it a better review score.

Godmars2903203d ago

It was assumed by the community, and the author, when the game was first announced was doing more with it than promotion. That it was a new, directly commissioned, IP rather than an indie that was likely shopped around.

SlappingOysters3202d ago

The article is saying that the game was pitched as a big AAA, but it is more like an indie title, and that the review scores may have been impacted by people going in expecting something more than the game was ever aiming for.

TheCommentator3202d ago (Edited 3202d ago )

It's really funny too, that the author feels "hoodwinked" by having believed it was going to be a $40 AAA game.

Aenea3202d ago

Let's call it the "No Man's Sky effect" then :D

SlappingOysters3202d ago

It was only announced as $40 in the last month or so wasn't it?

Hanilugtehul3203d ago

i had high hope for this game, havent played it yet but the reviews i have read and the gameplay i have seen didnt make me happy:( gonna get it down the road.but right now im gonna wait for a pricedrop. peace:)

maybelovehate3203d ago

The gameplay is extremely fun so far. Movement, especially jumping feels great. And the extraction mechanic is awesome. I am not that far in though so I can't comment on the overall game. Just the gameplay.

Five Overlooked Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Gems You Should Play

I personally think there's better on gamepass then what was listed. State of decay imo is better then anything listed. Recore seemed alright for what I played on there also.

roadkillers896d ago

Is Recore any better to play now?

Concertoine895d ago

Yeah, especially on One X or Series X. It kinda feels like a PS2 platformer, but in a good way. I liked it.

KillBill896d ago

Odd that he specified 'Game Pass Ultimate' instead of just 'Game Pass' just so he could include a relatively weak choice comparably in 'Alice: Madness Returns' which is available with EA Play. SoD was a far better overlooked game to have listed.

Crows90896d ago (Edited 896d ago )

Dont know why they keep listing ultimate. Gamepass is the better value....but the reason I think is that ultimate includes online gwg.

MadLad895d ago

I mean, as someone who games both on PC and Xbox, Ultimate makes a whole lot of sense. There's console exclusives and PC exclusives. And, at the end of the day, EA Play is still a perk of having Ultimate. When I open Gamepass, the EA Play catalogue is sitting right there for me. It's as much part of Gamepass as any other title I'm looking at, right?

5 Games That Could Have Benefited From a Day One Game Pass Release

Omar Banat: Xbox Game Pass is one of the most ingenious services that Microsoft has come up with, but for these five games, it didn't come soon enough.

Game Pass certainly could have helped Sunset Overdrive which was underrated, imo.

"But the focus of the day is Remedy’s 2016 critically acclaimed Xbox exclusive, Quantum Break, and how Game Pass could have given it a much-needed bump."

Quantum Break received overall good reviews. Not great, but good. Critically acclaimed? Sorry, no. That's hyperbole.

"And fast-forwarding a few years, we saw what a boon Game Pass was for Gears 5. Not only did Game Pass help get the game into the hands of more Xbox and PC players, but it also helped it exceed Gears of War 4 in sales."

Gears 5 was launched on Steam day one. Gears of War 4 still isn't on Steam. I think that's important to point out if you are going to allude to reasons why one game outsold another.

darthv721556d ago

SSOD was free on GwG not too long after release. That is always fun for quick pickup and play. QB is one that I hope gets FPS boost support. It would just feel more natural being more fluid but it too is a good game. I assume it being on GP has somewhat helped it get some recognition.

CrimsonWing691556d ago

There’s no denying how good Gamepass is but I’m still foggy on how it benefits developers/publishers. Like, do they just get one lump sum of cash to put the title on Gamepass? I mean, I personally canceled my pre-order for Outriders when I saw it’s going to be on Gamepass day 1. Judging by that I’m not sure Gamepass helps with the sales of games, rather it does expose games to more players, but how much of that equates to sales down-the-road?

RavenWolfx1556d ago

I heard payment was based on number of downloads and time played in addition to a lump sum, but I am not sure on the accuracy.

demonseye1556d ago

I actually agree on this. because a lot of games will get played that people they normally wouldn't pay for. and its 10 dollars per month which is 120 dollars per year. The average game cost day one is around 70 dollars. i buy a lot more games than 2 on a yearly basis.
and well the gamepass for me just made my option ps5 pc combo. as long as they release every game on pc I don't even have a reason to buy an Xbox. so i wonder if this plan is financially smart in the long term. mind you Xbox already received money for every Xbox game sold regardless if it's Microsoft owned or not.

Revisiting Recore: Xbox One’s Lost Gem

Article on the story of Recore which includes new information on cut characters and covers its rumoured development hell. "Recore’s always been a title that’s fascinated me, as it's clearly a game that never fulfilled its potential for whatever reason.  It's filled to the brim with bugs and glitches and yet, despite that, still managed to charm many who played it. It’s the first game that I wanted"
