New PS4 Controller vs original DualShock 4: what’s the difference?

From PlayStation Universe: "Sony’s new PS4 Controller launches alongside the PS4 Slim on September 15, and will also be bundled with PS4 Pro in November, but how does it differ from the original DualShock 4?

Well, in terms of the way it looks it’s practically identical to the original controller."

You can know connect it using usb. Before it was always bluetooth with usb charging. I remember a whole load of pc owners being pissed because the original pad was bluetooth only

Already worked wired on Osx and Windows

Yi-Long3169d ago

Players: We don't really like the light on the PS4 and wish it could be turned off.
Sony: Hey, let's add another light. (I know it's just a window to the same light, but still... :P )

Anyway, love my PS4 controller, but the only thing that really needed fixing was the battery life, as far as I'm concerned. Well, and maybe bring down the price a bit. It's 60 euro here in Holland. Which is ridiculous.

LexHazard793169d ago

Yeah battery is the only concern I had...no way a controller like that shoulda had a 800mah battery with all its functions.

ThePope3169d ago (Edited 3169d ago )

Easy fix, switch to batteries. I have 4 rechargeable batteries for my X1 controller and when the power gets low I spend 30 sec switching them. Plus for some reason the life per charge is like 8-10 days. When I play a PS4 game I have to keep my controller plugged in at all times when not in use so I don't run into a problem.

dumahim3169d ago

A good AA rechargeable is 2850 mha while the battery of the DS4 is only 800, so that's why the Xbox controller lasts so much longer.

ThePope3169d ago (Edited 3169d ago )

@dumahim

I did not know that. That explains a lot.

Even more reasons to switch to batteries.

LexHazard793169d ago

Wth? You can't just pop in rechargeables, Lol. Its like mini Lipo battery. Its really an easy fix, but one that you shouldn't have to do.

@dumahim, yeah I use 2500mahs on my Xbox controller.

ThePope3169d ago

@Bakpain

What? I'm saying Sony should switch to batteries.

zeuanimals3169d ago

What you mean is they should move to cell batteries (the AA, Duracell, energizer, etc. type). I personally don't think they should since they could just use a battery with much higher mAh (most phones have 2000+ mAh, the DS4 has around half that).

medman3169d ago (Edited 3169d ago )

@thepope

Your statement makes zero sense to me, but nevertheless......I have multiple ps4 controllers, so I always have some charged, but that misses the point. Even me, with multiple controllers, notices how often I have to charge them, or swap one out that I'm using because shock of shocks, it's going dead again.

The fact Sony updated the controller, and updated the console, but didn't change what was a primary complaint of the ds4 controller while they were tinkering.....I don't know what the heck they were thinking on this.

ThePope3169d ago

@Madmen

I am saying they should switch from a crappy internal battery to using external batteries.

kparks3168d ago

I would rather spend my money on another controller and rotate them in and out than have to buy a shit ton of batteries to throw away!

No Way3168d ago

I don't know why so many people are disagreeing with you. If Sony can't figure out how to put a larger capacity battery in the controller, then they should allow the user to use their own AA batteries.

@yi-long
Yeah, I agree. The battery life is atrocious, but also the rubber on the sticks could be much better. I always have to use grip-it stick covers, which are fantastic, but it would be nice if the ds4 didn't need them.

Gamer06853169d ago

I wonder if this will have less Bluetooth interference.

DragonDDark3169d ago

I think so? The pro will have a different Bluetooth ver. Dunno what they changed though. So The controllers' Bluetooth could have been changed

jmac533169d ago

I hope the fixed the build quality, especially the triggers and the thumbstick rubber.

BrianOBlivion3169d ago

I agree. Two of the thumbsticks on my controllers are already bald. Shitty quality rubber just tore right open.

OB1Biker3169d ago

Try thumb grips. I couldn't do without them as I found the sticks uncomfortable but so much better with grips.

kparks3168d ago

I've had the system since launch and have played a crap ton and never had a problem with the rubber.. my joysticks spaz out on 2 controllers and my left trigger on another broke the other week tho. I definitely had better luck with the DS3 durability although the layout is better with the new one

AnubisG3169d ago

I would have taken a larger battery over that useless light on the touch pad. That is absolutely worthless as much as the light on the front or back (depends on which way you look at the controller). Also I wish they fixed the thumb sticks. These two things were the once that every single gamer complained about universally. Yet they choose to ignore this with the new version. That's not good.

thejigisup3169d ago

I am a gamer and have not complained about the thumb sticks.

France Fines Sony for Combating Third-Party PS4 Controllers

PlayStation LifeStyle says: "The French antitrust authority Autorité de la Concurrence has slapped Sony Interactive Entertainment with a fine for taking measures to combat third-party PS4 controllers. In an attempt to fight off counterfeits, Sony implemented technical measures that negatively affected the functioning of third-party controllers, according to the regulator."

I never buy 3rd party controllers. They’re usually crappy or too expensive for what they offer

DarXyde499d ago

I feel like the age of crappy third party controllers ended. I might be wrong, but I only ever hear of the high end third party controllers now.

Either way, I feel like people should be able to buy and use these devices, even if they're bad quality.

Sure, it's Sony's box, but no company should do this unless it's some shady device-bricking controller.

Majors499d ago

Wait So Micro$oft gets away with it by disabling 3rd party controllers Whilst Sony gets a fine for only affecting them >?
