This is a game that ms does not have all the much faith in since it's a new ip. Once it's established for the sequel it will be 60 like the rest of games. Just a hunch

Lenrulesdaworld2865d ago

I agree, they want to test the waters 1st, see where it can lead. If successful, expect a bigger story, bigger world more hours of gameplay and $60 price point.

EDKICK2865d ago

I don't know if it's that they have no faith, I think it's just a lower barrier to entry for a new IP. I mean it's a more drastic example but look at Rocket League they took a risk starting the game for free hoping they would get people in and hooked and then once they started charging for it people would see a healthy happy community and buy it. It's obviously not a perfect analogy but I think MS probably has the same general thought process getting people in at $40 can be alot easier $60.

DaDrunkenJester2865d ago

Inafune has me worried though right now...

dilbig52865d ago

He probably put more effort into this game than he did Mighty No. 9. At least it looks like he did with how it turned out.

The 10th Rider2865d ago

Different developers, too. And only for PC and Xbox One, making things a lot easier.

_-EDMIX-_2865d ago

After Mighty No 9, I don't trust JACK with that man's name on it.

He is a fraud, hack and con man. What developers stated about him is very much correct seeing from how Mighty No 9 is.

I worry BIG TIME!

Sciurus_vulgaris2865d ago (Edited 2865d ago )

The $ 40 price tag could of just been due to the fact that game doesn't have a big budget. Armature has only 30 employees and the secondary developer Comcept is also small.
Edit: Armature has 50 employees, which is still small.

_-EDMIX-_2865d ago

Max Payne was done by a team of 11 people at Remedy.......

That wasn't a budget game. The price is reflective of the value perceived to the consumer. If MS is pricing this as a budge title, it might question how they really feel about it. They clearly feel it isn't worth full price from gamers.

Mind you ,that isn't a knock on the game. Sony did the same with the Sly games and even the latest Ratchet and Clank game.

I just think that folks are reacting a bit differently because clearly this game is no Ratchet and Clank.

Sciurus_vulgaris2865d ago

@EDMIX Max Payne was released 15 years ago, when games generally had production budgets under 10 million and dev teams were smaller. ReCore most likely doesn't have the 30-100 million dollar budget that big triple games have now, since it doesn't have a development team of 100-200 + people.

ps4joel2865d ago

after looking at the gameplay a was like ok its another gear of war with different texture.

2865d ago
Chevalier2865d ago

I agree considering SSO and Quantum Break sales I think this is a great approach. It worked for other titles like Ratchet and Gravity Rush so I think it's a good idea to gather interest and build up sales.

dp2774072865d ago

I know its not the same as this is a new IP but Ratchet and Clank was a great game for its cheaper price and doesn't mean another game would be bad cause of a cheaper price.

AngelicIceDiamond2865d ago

Maybe the games kinda short or AA budget and is actually worth 40$. There are games out there that aren't worth the full 60. Overwatch for example while the most fun I had in a game in a while console owners are getting cheated out payin full price knowing its a 40$ product. 40$ games doesn't equal bad, I'll be getting Recore for 31 here's hoping its great.

Bigpappy2865d ago

They can always sell more dlc if the game sells well at 40.

_-EDMIX-_2865d ago

...that seems very, very unlikely. From what I've seen from this game, the price matches the footage.

It very much looks like a budget game and I would question full price based on what I've seen of it. Being "established" has nothing to do with it.

Sevir2864d ago

It means the game had a smaller budget for development so to charge 60 is criminal. Sony has been doing this all generation, with remasters and new games. It's nothing to do with faith in product. It's just the scale of development resources. Ratchet and Clank on PS4 had a 40 price tag, into the nexus was 30 on PS3... and those are sequels to an 15 year old brand that has typically sold at premium prices on retail.

So cut the conspiracy. MS is experimenting with new price point, which is great because it means they aren't ripping their consumers off when development wouldn't warrant such a high premium.

Hoffmann2865d ago (Edited 2865d ago )

Is it released on Steam on PC or only in that Windows store?

ULTp0ltergeist2865d ago

Seems interested in the game yet becomes disinterested because it's in another digital distributor? Where the gamers at?

Lenrulesdaworld2865d ago

That exclusive reality sets in, everyone won't like it. Hopefully people will stop knocking it as they have too choose how to play xbox or windows 10.

DaDrunkenJester2865d ago

Expect any MS Exclusive to only be on Windows 10 store and X1... I mean at least the option is there...

Hoffmann2865d ago

Could have been the case that it was just exclusive on console, not on pc as well. Whatever..am waiting for reviews anyway.

jb2272864d ago

I'm not sure about that, I would assume that the more lower level games & indies will share a release w/ Steam. Phil specifically mentioned wanting to work w/ Steam & that would allow smaller games a larger opportunity to shine, while the larger ones will stay exclusive to Win10 as a way to push that service.

I think there will be games like Cuphead, which MS is publishing if I'm not mistaken that will also release on Steam just as that game is.

Hoffmann2864d ago

Yeah..better than nothing I guess...

KiwiViper852864d ago (Edited 2864d ago )

You know the answer to this question, surely.

ironicbunz2864d ago

1. You clearly knew the answer to that.
2. I don't see the problem in simply downloading a game from a pre-installed store/launcher and adding it to the steam library.

eferreira2865d ago

Heard the game is good but pretty meh.

dilbig52865d ago

Probably just like any other $40 game. It's either short with an enjoyable story, short with a slight open world at the end, slightly longer than average but a good bit of puzzles or reskinned enemies all over the place, just an over hyped smaller scale game, or a really good game and just not AAA but since it's a new IP $40 seems like a more affordable entry if it becomes a franchise.

ULTp0ltergeist2865d ago (Edited 2864d ago )

Developers stated it is open world and potential 8 hours. So for most gamers its' a pretty long game because they stated you'll be revisiting sites with upgrade movement or robotic upgrades. But I prefer your last option, very well designed game from experienced developers on a budget hence the price. If successful provide triple A production and a new Xbox franchise is born. I like this approach.

EDIT:
Nevermind I thought the game director in an interview was talking about Recore being 8hours, instead he was talking about Metorid Prime. Sorry about that. But confirmed open world so should be longer.

ninsigma2865d ago

8 hours doesn't seem much for an open world game. You got a link to that interview??
Regardless of that though, it looks cool and the price makes it all the better :D
It reminds of the xbox of old back on the original xbox. Some really cool games exclusive to that!

jznrpg2864d ago

8 hr open world sounds very small, like an island

dilbig52864d ago

I hope so. It looks good but people are discourage by might no 9. Hopefully he spent more time working out the kinks of Recore than he did that

SliceOfTruth8882865d ago

I think the major point people are missing are these games are going to be on PC now which has ALWAYS been cheaper than console. Just look at overwatch for example. Now that the store is unified Microsoft knows the PC consumer is not going to spend that much so selling at $40 to 100 million people instead of just 18-20 million at $60 with just xbox will make way more in the long run.

Finch2865d ago

You know I never thought of it that way. PC has always been cheaper. So pretty much MS has to ether drop games in price very fast or sell it at a lower price at start. Again another plus!

ninsigma2865d ago

Don't think that's it. The games on windows store have been cheaper than their xbox counterparts so far. This time it's a 40 dollar game due to content or their budget I guess.

Finch2865d ago (Edited 2865d ago )

True but now it buy once and play on any device. So mind as well buy it at the PC price right. Well now its one store to keep in line with PC pricing. I see all the games starting or dropping in price very fast compared to what we are used too. So yes this is a good thing. Xbox owners are now going to start to enjoy buying games at PC pricings!

2865d ago
ninsigma2865d ago

That's true, I didn't think of that. I hope then for the Xbox games will get reduced price to pc price and not the other way around. We'll see what happens when gears 4 arrives.

Finch2865d ago

They can still start at $60. A lot of PC games do, however they drop in price very fast.

"these games are going to be on PC now which has ALWAYS been cheaper than console"

no.

A digital copy will never have the advantage of price over a physical copy.

Why?

Well companies set those prices bud, gamers set the price to physical based on demand.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/o...

annnnnd

http://store.steampowered.c...

Sooooo what exactly are you talking about?

"PC now which has ALWAYS been cheaper than console" when and where? lol by default a digital space can never be as cheap as a physical thing. Why? CONSUMES CHOOSE THAT PRICE!

I can sell my PS4 copy of Witcher 3 for 1 cent bud, the publisher controls the price on a digital platform.

Having 100 million people have Windows 10 doesn't mean those 100 million are gamers. That is like saying 300 million own TVs, thus Sony is selling a game to 300 million....

Are they gamers though?

Where were those numbers Quantum Break? I mean...if you seriously feel such a thing will happen, why is it not happening RIGHT NOW with Quantum Break?

Five Overlooked Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Gems You Should Play

I personally think there's better on gamepass then what was listed. State of decay imo is better then anything listed. Recore seemed alright for what I played on there also.

roadkillers475d ago

Is Recore any better to play now?

Concertoine474d ago

Yeah, especially on One X or Series X. It kinda feels like a PS2 platformer, but in a good way. I liked it.

KillBill475d ago

Odd that he specified 'Game Pass Ultimate' instead of just 'Game Pass' just so he could include a relatively weak choice comparably in 'Alice: Madness Returns' which is available with EA Play. SoD was a far better overlooked game to have listed.

Crows90475d ago (Edited 475d ago )

Dont know why they keep listing ultimate. Gamepass is the better value....but the reason I think is that ultimate includes online gwg.

MadLad474d ago

I mean, as someone who games both on PC and Xbox, Ultimate makes a whole lot of sense. There's console exclusives and PC exclusives. And, at the end of the day, EA Play is still a perk of having Ultimate. When I open Gamepass, the EA Play catalogue is sitting right there for me. It's as much part of Gamepass as any other title I'm looking at, right?

5 Games That Could Have Benefited From a Day One Game Pass Release

Game Pass certainly could have helped Sunset Overdrive which was underrated, imo.

"But the focus of the day is Remedy’s 2016 critically acclaimed Xbox exclusive, Quantum Break, and how Game Pass could have given it a much-needed bump."

Quantum Break received overall good reviews. Not great, but good. Critically acclaimed? Sorry, no. That's hyperbole.

"And fast-forwarding a few years, we saw what a boon Game Pass was for Gears 5. Not only did Game Pass help get the game into the hands of more Xbox and PC players, but it also helped it exceed Gears of War 4 in sales."

Gears 5 was launched on Steam day one. Gears of War 4 still isn't on Steam. I think that's important to point out if you are going to allude to reasons why one game outsold another.

darthv721135d ago

SSOD was free on GwG not too long after release. That is always fun for quick pickup and play. QB is one that I hope gets FPS boost support. It would just feel more natural being more fluid but it too is a good game. I assume it being on GP has somewhat helped it get some recognition.

CrimsonWing691135d ago

There’s no denying how good Gamepass is but I’m still foggy on how it benefits developers/publishers. Like, do they just get one lump sum of cash to put the title on Gamepass? I mean, I personally canceled my pre-order for Outriders when I saw it’s going to be on Gamepass day 1. Judging by that I’m not sure Gamepass helps with the sales of games, rather it does expose games to more players, but how much of that equates to sales down-the-road?

RavenWolfx1135d ago

I heard payment was based on number of downloads and time played in addition to a lump sum, but I am not sure on the accuracy.

demonseye1135d ago

I actually agree on this. because a lot of games will get played that people they normally wouldn't pay for. and its 10 dollars per month which is 120 dollars per year. The average game cost day one is around 70 dollars. i buy a lot more games than 2 on a yearly basis.
and well the gamepass for me just made my option ps5 pc combo. as long as they release every game on pc I don't even have a reason to buy an Xbox. so i wonder if this plan is financially smart in the long term. mind you Xbox already received money for every Xbox game sold regardless if it's Microsoft owned or not.

Revisiting Recore: Xbox One’s Lost Gem

Article on the story of Recore which includes new information on cut characters and covers its rumoured development hell. "Recore’s always been a title that’s fascinated me, as it's clearly a game that never fulfilled its potential for whatever reason.  It's filled to the brim with bugs and glitches and yet, despite that, still managed to charm many who played it. It’s the first game that I wanted"
