I don't like 0, but I would not give up on it!!!!!! Port it to NX with better controls/graphics face lift and I would try it again!

BullyMangler2876d ago

But still, All Range Mode is ssick! SFZ 8.8/10

nveenio2875d ago

This is why I don't think a Crash reboot is a good idea. Nostalgia is just so hard to compete with. It can be done, but it's almost like rolling dice.

LOL_WUT2875d ago

Unless they drastically make the Crash Bandicoot reboot to look like a PS1 game and add a gimmicky control scheme I don't see how it can't be a good idea ;)

freshslicepizza2875d ago

i blame miyamoto, he should step out of the way and retire now.

Relientk772876d ago

Wow that would be sad if Nintendo ended the Star Fox games. At least he's still in Smash Bros

Summons752876d ago

It will but it's one of those things where more people demand the game and then they don't buy it. Like Agent Carter on TV, nobody watched the show but then when it's canceled all of a sudden people are coming out of the woodwork saying how amazing it is. If they truly loved the series they would have bought the game simple as that.

SaveMeJebus2876d ago

Wait...Agent Carter was cancelled?! I'm outraged!!! The three episodes I watched were really good!!!

ShadowWolf7122876d ago

People wanted a good Star Fox game.

Instead they got a gimmicky title that ran poorly.

Just Nintendo shooting themselves in the foot. Again.

Segata2875d ago

I watched all of Agent Carter DURING it's run.

jessionpc2875d ago

Why would it be sad? Star Fox had 2 great games. One was on Super Nintendo, the next was on N64.

Dormant and dead since, "Or how boot that Krystal star fox game? Super cool right?"

Nobody cares about flying a fox and a frog through asteroid belts in a fantasy jet that screams, "GURD LUCK", anymore.

Time for Nintendo do to a little growing up or a lot of getting lost.

Either or :/

Segata2875d ago

They never stop making familiar name IPs. They just give them long breaks. If anyone tries to bring up F-zero well they tried to get one made on Wii U but Criterion turned down the offer.

Fullmetalevolust2876d ago (Edited 2876d ago )

I think it was released at a really bad moment between the end of the WiiU's lifetime and an announced NX release date. Some WiiU owners like myself probably thought, well what's the use...? probably gonna buy it when it's cheaper or when it gets released for the NX.
The WiiU's swansong along with the new Zelda.

_-EDMIX-_2876d ago (Edited 2875d ago )

no.

That game preformed bad in sales for being a bad game..very simple. I would assume the use of buying a game on a platform you own, is to have fun.

@wonder - "Zero was NOT a bad game; its control scheme was just asking too much from people who didn't have great multitasking skills and a lot of people just couldn't handle"

Why are you blaming the consumers for? I'm sorry but this game is completely awful in terms of how it controls simply because they've made poor decisions in design.

Someone shouldn't have to be doing so much multitasking in such a simplistic game this is not a simulation Star Fox has never been about that I'm sorry but they completely botched this game in favor of forcing a gimmick.

You keep desperately trying to defend this game and I could tell you right now my friend currently has the world record in this game he is currently the fastest person that could play this game and he 100% agrees with me that this is the worst feeling Star Fox ever created he knows better than anyone playing the game as he holds the world record for it.

Even as a huge Star Fox fan I'm not going to sit here and lie for the game and pretend it's everybody else there was no reason for this game to have forced motion controls and for Nintendo to lie to its own consumers regarding whether or not motion could be turned off.

Also this is not a remake this is more so of a reimagining because there's many levels in this game that are not in Starfox 64 this was never meant to be a direct 1.1 remake.

Watching my friend for countless hours play this game in frustration over the terrible controls going after the world record has shown me clearly just how bad the controls were created for this game. Star Fox is a very short game someone should not be fighting the controls for more than half of the campaign he even told me the learning curve is so difficult because of how bad the design is that it will take you a couple playthroughs just to understand it and even then it's still going to be terrible.

This game failed in sales simply because it fails in design. No one could even take anything you say seriously anyway because you spin anything bad by this company to Oblivion..
.
I have Publishers that I personally like and developers that I personally like but if they create a bad game I'm not going to sit there playing crap and saying it's amazing I'm very much going to voice my concern.

As a person that likes Star Fox, this is a bad game..

" your buddy was struggling with the controls and felt that the learning curve was too difficult, then that's on him"

Lol yet holds the world record.....

wonderfulmonkeyman2876d ago (Edited 2875d ago )

No.
There's a difference between a game being bad, and a game not being made the way fans wanted it to be made.

Zero was NOT a bad game; its control scheme was just asking too much from people who didn't have great multitasking skills and a lot of people just couldn't handle stepping that far outside of their comfort zone, so it was ill received by people who hate big changes.
On a technical level, though I speak from experience in saying that the control scheme, once I got used to it [which took less than ten minutes of experience per type, if that], offered unique advantages and interesting challenges that the regular schemes in Star Fox 64 just didn't have.
It would have sold better with a more traditional control scheme, but it would also have lost a lot of interesting moments of gameplay in the process and probably would have been looked at as a much more by-the-numbers remake than it is now.

Edit: I'm not blaming all consumers.
Saying that there are some gamers that will get good with the controls and some that won't, or will struggle with them, isn't blaming them; it's just a fact that some gamers don't have the skill level that this game demands of them through its controls, and thus won't have as much fun with it.
There's nothing shameful about that, but that's no reason to say the game is objectively bad.

I'm blaming you, for throwing a blanket claim over the game being bad, which is a fallacy since there are plenty out there that aren't having these issues you're whining so much over.
The only one "desperately" doing anything here, is you, desperately claiming that it's the game's fault for being a bad game that you just can't control well, despite others showing that it is indeed possible to control the game with ease.

You can have as many buddies with world records for blazing through the story as you want; that doesn't change my personal experience with it nor the personal experience of others who are similar, and from what I've played of it, and from what many others have experienced and talked about as well, I can tell you that you're objectively wrong when saying that it's a bad game due to the controls.
You're just merely ignoring anyone who says they aren't having issues with the game's controls, as if those people are liars.

And don't even TRY laying accusations of spinning on others; you're practically the Centrifuge of N4G when it comes to spinning anything that Nintendo does into a negative.
If your buddy was struggling with the controls and felt that the learning curve was too difficult, then that's on him; that doesn't erase the fact that there are plenty of others that are not having the same issues that he, and more obviously you, are having with adjusting to the control scheme.

The game did fail because of the controls not being similar enough to entries in the past, but that's not the same as them being bad; it just means that most players didn't like them because of the differences or not being able to do well with them.

As a person that has enjoyed Star Fox since the inception of the series, who has had none of the issues with controlling it that you obviously have;
GIT GUD.
It's a poor craftsman that blames his tools when they're perfectly capable of doing the job well. That trophy of your pal's doesn't mean much when he has to struggle with the controls just to earn it, while people with likely less than half of his dedication are playing, and having fun, with the game's controls with far less difficulty handling it, and aren't complaining about the game being "bad" because of them.

BullyMangler2875d ago

your friend became overwhelmed by SFZ . not me. SFZ 8.8/10

maniacmayhem2875d ago (Edited 2875d ago )

Edmix,

So you're judging a game by watching an experience your friend had while speed running it?

Sorry, but that automatically disqualifies you from having any opinion about the game. How about you play it for yourself and then come back and tell us what you experienced instead of living through others.

Chocoburger2876d ago (Edited 2876d ago )

Super Mario Maker was a better received game and thus sold better. Star Fox Zero simply wasn't the game people wanted it to be, thus it sold poorly. Give people a true sequel to Star Fox 64 with traditional controls and watch as it makes an actual profit.

Nintendo has a chance to re-release the game for NX with tweaks and improvements, including traditional controller support. If they do this, they may actually make some money off the game.

_-EDMIX-_2876d ago

Amen!

I'm surprised in this day and age that it's even being brought up to just create a normal Star Fox I never asked to reinvent the wheel consumers never beg for an exclusive motion game. they sure are always into trying to sell a gimmick and the game failed horribly this is one of the biggest reasons why I personally want their next device to have zero gimmicks because they seem to literally Implement them and games so incorrectly to force the gimmick they end up ruining the game.

this was not the best Star Fox in any respect.

-Foxtrot2876d ago (Edited 2876d ago )

Well it's their own fault...it just lacked what was expected. Hell I've seen fake screenshots over the years which looked better then what we got, basically what we should have got. It shows you how Nintendo can't add a lot in their games despite their long dev times, the only reason other games they have feel "full" is that they usually have a previous game behind it to add onto. New Super Mario Bros DS - New Super Mario Bros Wii - New Super Mario Bros 2 (3DS) - New Super Mario Bros U etc while Star Fox hasn't had a game for a while meaning they didn't have a Wii game to easily add onto.

http://i2.wp.com/nintendo24...

I really disliked the new one, it wasn't the same. Hell I enjoyed Star Fox Adventure more...I know blasphemy but I did.

_-EDMIX-_2876d ago

"Hell I enjoyed Star Fox Adventure more" LOL! Agreed.

Vegamyster2876d ago

I just don't get why they didn't use a normal control sceme instead of shoehorning in awkward controls, that's the main reason i lost interest, i just wanted a classic style Star Fox game without the gimmicks.

Germany72876d ago

To be honest, i would love a remaster of Star Fox Adventure for Wii U or NX, they could include Assault on this edition as well.

StormLegend2876d ago

Why are you saying it like Starfox Adventure was a bad game?? Because it's not. It's my favorite one out of the starfox games.

-Foxtrot2876d ago

Because I've seen a lot of people who didn't like it

Personally, despite liking the older games I think it was miles better

I know this is the entire point of the older games, but just moving a ship up, down, left, right while blasting things gets a little boring after a while. I mean at the time with the N64 I was blown away, I loved it but because times have changed and we've experienced so much more it doesn't really cut it...it's like a bonus level or maybe a few small sections you would get in a bigger game.

That's why I loved Star Fox Adventure, it evolved naturally in my opinion. You could still have the olld style but they would be small sections within the game

Star Fox should have evolved more in it's Action-adventure game with platforming elements while having the original games style as a way of moving from planet to planet....like in Kingdom Hearts.

_-EDMIX-_2876d ago

I think people don't like it because it's basically not even a Star Fox game.

@Fox - no offence Fox but even though I like Star Fox Adventures I like what it is as a game not as a Star Fox game. They very much should have just made a new IP and this is one of the reasons why I dislike this publisher so much they love forcing and abusing the crap out of their intellectual properties and they need to just makenough new IPs if they really have new Concepts as opposed to trying to turn other ideas into something else in fear of rejection...

Yuji Naka from Sega did this often and I personally feel that the downfall of his career was fear of rejection and fear of showing A New Concept and being rejected he was always trying to force Sonic games to be something they never were and the majority of the installed base was confused at what these games were supposed to be.

That being said Star Fox Adventures is not a terrible game but it's questionable as to why it's using the Star Fox property. If anything they could have just made it as ide series that literally was just about the action adventure and platforming but no I do not agree that Star Fox needs to evolve to be a completely different genre that's beyond insane and makes absolutely no sense that's like saying Killzone needs to evolve into being a racing game.

it makes much more sense to just split the series if they honestly feel that the concept is worth it, don't force people who are Starfox fans to play another genre. Split the series and call it a day.

I have no clue why so many people are so gun-ho to make this into an either-or situation there are many franchises that split their IPs to different genres or side games , Resident Evil and Megaman are some of the few that do that.

The 10th Rider2876d ago

Honest question here: Even if the game used regular controls, do you think it still would have sold?

I'm of the opinion that no, it wouldn't have. The game is quite close to Star Fox 64, and those clamoring for a 'real' Star Fox game got what they asked for, outside of the controls. The controls were decently received a lot of places, but it was the other things that still bogged it down. Star Fox just isn't a game that people will buy a console for, with the Wii U headed out the door it was doomed to fail from the start.

Honestly I think the game would have done much better stripped of its unique control scheme, given updated graphics, and released as an NX launch title. It still wouldn't look mind-blowing and it would still be short, but I think that would be overlooked as a console launch title. Heck, even if it was a Wii U launch title and had the awkward control scheme, I think it still would have been received far better. It's like Skyward Sword all over again, launched far too late in the console's lifespan to really be relevant.

Concertoine2876d ago (Edited 2876d ago )

I don't think it would have either, mainly because it was not even really a new game. It;s basically a remake of 64 but not a reboot, or a re-imagining, or anything. Nintendo didn't even know what to call it. After the Star Fox 64 remake on 3DS only a few years ago this was just beating the dead horse. People asked for a game like 64... they got plenty of it now.

When i always said "get Platinum to make a star fox game" I imagined some bullet-hell inspired sci-fi stunner that had all the thrill of Vanquish but in flight combat. Maybe bring in some of the cooler elements of Command with the RPG elements and different endings. Hell look at the fan film A Fox in Space - they know what to do with star fox.

Man this sucks if it's the case. Star Fox is fantastic but Nintendo has to make use of their busted gimmicks. God forbid we just have the option to play the game like a traditionally controlled game...

Thanks Nintendo for dropping the ball on the game and then killing the series because nobody wants to pay for your turd of a game.

I guess look on the bright-side, at least they didn't censor the game.

Star Fox Zero, Was it Really That Bad?

Has time been kind to Star Fox Zero? Does the game have any redeeming qualities that are worthy of revisiting? Should it be considered for a port to the Switch? Was it really that bad?

Haven't played it since it came out, but I really enjoyed it. Can't tell if that's just nostalgia-tinted glasses, or if I actually consider it a good game though lol.

Vits907d ago

It's a mediocre game that reuses ideas, scenarios, characters and moments from previous ones. Paired with one of the worst control methods that I had the displeasure of using.

CptDville906d ago

Those controls. Boring and frustrating at the same time. Only with co-op they were bearable, but co-op was restricted to finished levels.

SeTTriP906d ago

Yes couldn't finish it it was so boring.

MissAubrey906d ago

controls made me stop playing also what good is a 65inch tv when you have to look at a tiny Wiiu tablet.. same with kirby & the rainbow curse..

Einhander1971906d ago

No it was great, just the control scheme spoilt things really. The wii u screen was not needed for it really

I’d rather Star Fox Assault be brought to Switch with online multiplayer instead

Neonridr955d ago

or a Star Fox 64 remaster instead.

1: Get rid of the motion controls.

2: Bring us Okami 3.

I rather have them show more of Bayonetta 3 first before they talking about any new project.
This reeks Inafune's funding for Red Ash and Mighty No.9 animated series, both never materialized.

Well, they listed Star Fox Zero as the worst one, so that list is at least believable.

septemberindecember1000d ago

I feel like if you're judging the original Star Fox by it's era then I feel you should do the same with Star Fox 2 IMO. Since they are both effectively SNEA games

Sgt_Slaughter999d ago

It's hard to top the N64 version (well maybe the 3DS version, but that should have used uncompressed audio. Without that it's a step down from what it could have been IMO)
