"It's the Star Fox game you wanted...in 2002."

Ouch ! That review is brutal and not funny at all to be honest.

deafdani2923d ago

4 out of 10 is ridiculous. That's something reserved for broken games, and Star Fox Zero isn't broken at all. It just has a different control scheme, which is kind of hard to get used to, but works perfectly fine.

Malphite2923d ago

If 4/10 is reservered for broken games what are 1-3/10 reservered for then?

superchiller2923d ago (Edited 2923d ago )

Well according to Polygon, the game is broken; they were so disgusted with it, they just stopped playing and skipped the review. It just sounds like the reviewer hated the gimmicky controls, and decided that it wasn't even worth going through the trauma of reviewing it.

kraenk122923d ago

@superchiller

No ONE, really should ever give a damn what that stupid site thinks. F'in hipsters!

YodaCracker2923d ago

Giant Bomb reviews on a 5 star scale and 1 star is reserved for broken games. The scale is not designed to be converted to a 10 point scale. It's designed to exist on its own.

Spyroo2923d ago

So The Order 1886 is broken too?

pcz2922d ago (Edited 2922d ago )

i think a lot of people are just hypocrites. they trash a review if the review scores the game poorly, but if the reviewer were to sing starfox zeros praises, everyone would be bragging about it.

nintendo fans are just embarrassed that nintendo made a rubbish game and mad that reviewers are pointing it out. how dare they do their job!

the numerous poor reviews this game is receiving doesnt surprise me one bit, i saw it a mile off. the signs were there right from the start when it was unveiled. it has been getting trashed right from the get go.

why nintendo even released the game in its current sorry state only illustrates how desperate nintendo are right now for a buck.

it should have been canned for the wiiu and delayed for more development work and then released as a launch title for NX. minus the totally rubbish, gimmicky controls

deafdani2922d ago

@pcz: spoken like someone who hasn't played the game.

I really don't bother too much with the average reviews the game's been getting, because I can understand where most reviewers are coming from with their complaints. The controls are highly divisive, and I can see perfectly well why a lot of people could dislike, or even straight, hate them.

But that wasn't my point.

4/10, as I said before, is a score that should be reserved for broken games, games that are near unplayable. And Star Fox Zero is perfectly playable and actually its controls are pretty polished, even if I'm not particularly fond of them.

4/10 and below is a score reserved for shovelware crap, which Star Fox Zero isn't. Not by a long mile.

Take a look at Metacritic. Giant Bomb's review is the only one that dips below 50, and I contend that this is a ridiculous score. Everything else I'm fine with, even the couple 50/100s it got.

blawren42922d ago

Poll N4G community about the definition of the term "broken" and you get about 20 different responses ranging from game breaking glitches that prevent progression or booting up the game at all, to just not being what they expected. Broken is thrown around all the time but really should be reserved for truly unplayable games. Starfox Zero by most accounts is entirely playable and quite fun, albeit with a learning curve.

To put it in terms that some may or may not understand, because the term is itself widely misunderstood and varied, Starfox Zero is NOT a casual game.

Everyone replying to you trashing it are trolls who never even played the game. I said in another topic the game frustrated me at first. Then you get used to the controls and they work just fine. It's just a steep learning curve much like Wonderful 101. Nothing wrong with learning curves. I am now finding myself playing harder paths and looking for all the medals. With the challenge modes the extra game and Arcade mode there is a lot to be had.

NarooN2923d ago

Once again I must say how funny/pathetic it is that people get so personally offended when a game they love/live gets a score they disapprove of. How does someone else rating the game poorly affect your enjoyment of it? Do you all truly need everybody else to validate your opinions for you to feel secure?

Segata2923d ago

That is not what bothers me. It's people spreading lies and such esp those who didn't even play it

LOL_WUT2922d ago

I bet you wouldn't have a problem if the game got a 10/10. Let's face it the game didn't look too promising since its official gameplay ;)

Pancit_Canton2923d ago

2-3 hours game for $60. LMAO. I guess I got my moneys worth when I paid $10 for the Order of 1886.

AKR2923d ago

The game is actually $50. It's only $60 when you get the bonus edition that comes with Star Fox Guard.

Segata2923d ago (Edited 2923d ago )

Wrong. 60 dollars gets you 2 games. The initial playthrough is 3 hours but then you can unlock more paths and stages. Then it has challenge modes. Then is has co-op mode and it has Arcade mode and it has Hard mode. I now have 30 hours in both combined.

AKR2923d ago

I got the game on launch day, and honestly, I'm fine with it. The controls do have a learning curve, but it's definitely not unplayable. I honestly think some of these reviewers are just letting their negative bias of motion controls (coughcough Polygon coughcough) get in the way of their judgement.

I found that switching the TV view to show the cockpit was very reminiscent to Splatoon, and so that's how I adjusted. Different strokes for different folks, I guess. Either way, I'm liking it so far.

Segata2923d ago

Dan Ryckert is a child. I mean this is the same guy who never tried mayonnaise and thinks Wine is not for cool guys to drink. The same dope who wanted pogs dumped over him. He is a moron and no patience for anything in games. I can't take his opinions seriously.

TorpeAlex2923d ago

Seeing how horrible he was at the game in the Quick Look last week, despite having switched the controls to what he claims to be a fan of (the original 64 controls), this review doesn't surprise me. I discounted his opinion on the game as soon as his ineptitude became apparent.

Trilithon2923d ago

whatever the case, the game could have, SHOULD have been better. its too little too late unfortunately. thanks Nintendo.

Star Fox Zero, Was it Really That Bad?

Has time been kind to Star Fox Zero? Does the game have any redeeming qualities that are worthy of revisiting? Should it be considered for a port to the Switch? Was it really that bad?

Haven't played it since it came out, but I really enjoyed it. Can't tell if that's just nostalgia-tinted glasses, or if I actually consider it a good game though lol.

Vits908d ago

It's a mediocre game that reuses ideas, scenarios, characters and moments from previous ones. Paired with one of the worst control methods that I had the displeasure of using.

CptDville907d ago

Those controls. Boring and frustrating at the same time. Only with co-op they were bearable, but co-op was restricted to finished levels.

SeTTriP907d ago

Yes couldn't finish it it was so boring.

MissAubrey907d ago

controls made me stop playing also what good is a 65inch tv when you have to look at a tiny Wiiu tablet.. same with kirby & the rainbow curse..

Einhander1971907d ago

No it was great, just the control scheme spoilt things really. The wii u screen was not needed for it really

Platinum wants to bring Star Fox Zero to Switch

But any potential design changes would be up to Nintendo if it happens.

I’d rather Star Fox Assault be brought to Switch with online multiplayer instead

Teflon02957d ago

Finally, someone who knows about Assault. Best Star Fox Multi-player imo.

Neonridr957d ago

or a Star Fox 64 remaster instead.

deadfrag957d ago

Platinum Games wants to many things but sadly it does not show nothing new for years! They try to jump on all offers but end finishing none!

whitbyfox957d ago

1: Get rid of the motion controls.

2: Bring us Okami 3.

Good-Smurf957d ago (Edited 957d ago )

I rather have them show more of Bayonetta 3 first before they talking about any new project.
This reeks Inafune's funding for Red Ash and Mighty No.9 animated series, both never materialized.

Starfox Games, Ranked

WGTC: "Nintendo hasn’t always given Starfox the most love among its tentpole franchises, but the series has still cultivated a loyal cult fanbase over its almost 30-year history. Here are all of the games in the mainline series ranked from worst to best."

Well, they listed Star Fox Zero as the worst one, so that list is at least believable.

septemberindecember1001d ago

I feel like if you're judging the original Star Fox by it's era then I feel you should do the same with Star Fox 2 IMO. Since they are both effectively SNEA games

Sgt_Slaughter1001d ago

It's hard to top the N64 version (well maybe the 3DS version, but that should have used uncompressed audio. Without that it's a step down from what it could have been IMO)
