While The Phantom of Venice won't win over any new audiences, the existing fan base (those people who have bought the previous Her Interactive games), will definitely find this latest installment enjoyable as well.
The game's sound is adequate, but like the visuals, is nothing that really stands out. The sound effects feel appropriate and the general feel of the city seems right. The game's music is subtle and gets the job done, but in the end, it is forgettable. At least Lani Minella reprises her role as Nancy Drew and continues to do a pretty good job.
Online video game retailer Amazon has released it's digital games deals of the week.
The Burning Hot Bundle is actually a better deal than on Steam. For less than the price of Burnout, you get The Ultimate Box AND Need for Speed Hot Pursuit!
PALGN writes: "Despite all the effort that Phantom of Venice puts into frustrating and annoying the player, we did enjoy our time with the game. The story hangs together quite well and, while it's not pushing any sort of boundaries, remains interesting throughout. It's definitely one of the best games in the Nancy Drew series, and may be one of the better adventure games around at the moment. The various problems with the game - f'gosh sake, skippable dialogue next time, yes? - prevent us making a wholehearted recommendation, and it's unlikely to distract anyone from the shoutier end of the gaming spectrum. There are, however, worse ways to keep warm during a rainy Sunday afternoon, and you might just find yourself won over by Ms. Drew".
John Crowe writes "For a very friendly $29.95AUD, Mindscape have released another interesting adventure of Nancy Drew, a favourite amongst younger female gamers which once again returns them to this female detective heroine. Set in the wondrous and classical city of Venice, a masked thief has been stealing treasures, only to leave the police baffled."
I'm just gonna come right out and say it...Nancy Drew = GOTY!
