Why launch the game unfinished?

It's a trend that has to stop

Starting to Make me wish i was back to n64 and PlayStation 2 days

Sparta073410d ago (Edited 3410d ago )

Are you talking about this article?
Cause this is listing issues more on the technical side like not being able to switch resolution or connecting controllers. This is not about the game being unfinished

DARKKENT3410d ago

This article is about sf5 full stop.

And to release a game without basic arcade mode is so unheard of I'm still fuming..

So technical issues or no arcade mode is all the same to me right now

theRedDragon3410d ago

Don't matter the game is indeed unfinished. No arcade mode, no trials, online doesn't work, no challenged mode, no multiplayer lobbies, no spectating, no CPU vs CPU, no 1p vs CPU, no gallery, the list goes on and on.

When was the last time a full priced fighting game is missing even 1/2 of those features? Capcom has lost trusts among gamers. Just look at the Steam reviews where it is over 60% negative. The people have spoken. I will not buy this game until all the modes are there and $30.

rdgneoz33410d ago

When the one writing the blog has his status as, "I'll buy it at a high price", you can somewhat tell they don't care if they're releasing an unfinished game at full price...

darthv723410d ago

I just realized capcom has done this a long time ago with the snes final fight. It was missing a level and Guy and then they later released final fight guy which added all the missing content.

(mind blown)

Hoffmann3410d ago

They also did it with Street Fighter II

After launch it raised such a giant shi'storm in the internet that they added Balrog, Vega, Sagat and M.Bison finally as playable characters and called it Street Fighter II Turbo

Der_Kommandant3410d ago

@hoffman

Did you have internet in 1991?

darthv723410d ago (Edited 3410d ago )

But... Hoffman those 4 characters were in the snes SF2. they werent playable initially because they werent playable in the arcade version.

the release of the turbo version in the arcade prompted the release of the turbo / champion edition on consoles.

My example of final fight was based on how they removed content from the home version that was in the arcade. Even the sega cd version had all the arcade content. But then again the sega cd was actually ported by sega and not capcom.

Hoffmann3410d ago (Edited 3410d ago )

Heh, should have added a /s in the previous comment.

I guess they removed the stuff from FF because the storage limitations of the cartridges at the time, 16 mb were much more expensive than 8mb

The sega cd had all the content and a damn nice arranged soundtrack due to the ton bigger medium of course

@Der_Kommandant OfCourse!

gangsta_red3410d ago

Wasn't Final Fight missing Guy and a level because of the limitations of the SNES? It either couldn't handle three players at once on screen or it was a design decision because there was only two controller inputs. I'm positive a level was left out because of the hardware at the time.

And FF Guy only had one playable character (from what I remember) and that was Guy. And I am sure the content was still missing from that version.

@ Dark Kent I'm with you on the game being released without certain modes that's lame. But this article isn't about what's missing in the game is about issues on the technical side.

bigboss203410d ago

I've been playing my ps2 and having more fun with it lol

SF5 launched with 16 characters

SF4 launched with 25 characters

King of Fighters 14 is launching with 50 characters.

gangsta_red3410d ago (Edited 3410d ago )

Pretty certain SF4 didn't launch with 24 characters.

Why do you keep posting that SF4 launched with 25 characters??

I'm sorry but the Ryu quote on the right: lmao
"Expect nothing, be ready for anything."

SliceOfTruth8883410d ago

I am not even mad about the graphical issues, the dead servers or the gameplay. its the fact capcom, maker of what should be the holy grail of fighting games, had the gall to put a PC version of the game out without direct input button changes? I mean seriously how is this possible? This should be step 1 in features. This alone made me feel like they didnt give a crap what they put out at this time as long as people were going to buy it.

Street Fighter 5: Analysing a Tarnished Legacy

Street Fighter 5 launched in 2016, and is widely considered a misstep for the hugely popular franchise. This article explains why that is.

Terry_B539d ago

Every Street Fighter is called a misstep of the series since Street Fighter III..and even the Alpha games were not liked by everyone.

SF V had a miserable start but later it did a lot things actually better than SFIV and SF6.

SF6 is the first SF since SFII Turbo for that I did not buy at launch. And today, around 6 months after its launch I still have no motivation to buy it.

kevco33538d ago

I've had every Street Fighter on launch since SFII on the SNES. SFV is definitely my least played of them all.

SF6 is very good. You should give it a second look.

Terry_B538d ago

Maybe in 2-3 years when there is a version that has characters I care for.

So far there is not one of the new characters I like..and my favourite 4 are not a part of it either. (Bison, Balrog, Sagat and Vega) + the whole hip hop style and the crappy music turned me totally off.

Looking forward a lot to Tekken 8.

Sano24538d ago

SF4 vanilla was loved by most and and not considered a misstep. It wasn't until they went revision crazy that people started turning on Capcom.

Terry_B538d ago

Don't remember the criticques it got for the big hands and feet, the sometimes weird looking faces, the lame boss (Seth) and that so many characters were shotos and yup..the many new versions. Just every SF got its haters no matter how good it was.

Nerdmaster537d ago

It was criticized for the first trailers having an interesting art style with those ink splashes, but the real game had none of that and people felt cheated. And Capcom decided to add some of those effects in the game later because of the backlash. But I don't remember any other big complaints about it.

EvertonFC538d ago

I grew out of fighting games, loved them as a kid but online you just get your ass kicked over and over leaving just the bare bones single player and also having no friends anymore who like fighting games either just makes me not want to buy or play them anymore.

CrimsonWing69538d ago

I dunno, I like Street Fighter 5 quite a bit. 🤷‍♂️

Shiro173537d ago

Sf6 is the best sf since sf4ae lol
