In Defence of Capcom & Street Fighter V

Street Fighter V has launched today on PS4 and PC although the release is currently plagued with server issues and for some lacking in content even though Capcom have been pretty clear with what's included with the game at this time.

There's no defending this. Was looking forward to this game but will not get it until a complete version with story mode included. What a disappointment

Hoffmann2992d ago

Did you enjoy the story modes in Street Fighter II, III, IV ?

pompombrum2992d ago

LOL so true but lets be fair, thanks largely to Netherrealm and Arc Sys, fighting game story modes have come a long long way since even 09 so it's only natural that people raise their expectations. Could be worse though, could be Mahvel.

DARKKENT2992d ago

I blame sony as much as capcom

Sony have helped fund this game... Have they not learnt from the drive club fiasco?

People don't want half finished games.. And it brings the scores down.. What harm would it be waiting an extra month?

Sony are as much to blame from not learning from their mistakes...

DragonKnight2992d ago

@DARKKENT: Funding a game is not the same as developing it. It's Capcom's IP, what was Sony supposed to do when Capcom decided to release an unfinished game? They have no control over the IP and if they pulled funding then there wouldn't be a SFV to b*tch about. Curious to know how you think Sony is to blame and what they could have done.

DARKKENT2992d ago (Edited 2992d ago )

@dragonknight

You really want to tell me sony had no say in the release of a game they funded?

Did capcom not say the game would never have been made if it wasn't for sonys funding? Right then..

So don't tell me sony could not have told capcom we don't want an incomplete game released that's not good for the brand or the fans... Of course sony have meetings with capcom.. Your ridiculous to think they just pony up the money and walk away

Wtf you talking about

miyamoto2992d ago (Edited 2992d ago )

Super SF II Turbo has the best story mode.

People nowadays are too lazy to imagine and put the little pieces of the puzzles together because developers leave nothing to the imagination of gamers.

When I was younger I use to visualize SF II in 3D animation after watching the anime movie. Those were the happy days.

But chrisx is right Crapcom needs to be taught a lesson by the PlayStation Nation.
Can't wait for Ultra SF V Complete Edition.
Patience is a Virtua.

DragonKnight2992d ago (Edited 2992d ago )

@DARKKENT: You seem to be missing the point. Street Fighter is Capcom's IP. Sony's funding doesn't give them any say in what Capcom does with their THEIR PROPERTY!

The absolute most Sony can do is pull funding and sue Capcom for money already spent, nothing more. So again, how do you want Sony to force Capcom to do somdthing when Sony doesn't have any legal right to do so? The only end result that would happen is no Street Fighter V. Explain what Sony could do with an IP they don't own.

Get off the irrational Sony hate bandwagon.

DARKKENT2992d ago

@dragon knight

Me criticizing your beloved sony doesn't mean I'm on a bandwagon.. Just means unlike certain people I'm not a SHEEP

How do you know what sony can and cannot do? The game is EXCLUSIVE to their console and PC, they funded the game yet they couldn't tell capcom to wait a month and release a complete game because they don't own the ip? You expect me to believe that? Naa I have more sense sorry mate

Who said force capcom? Why does common sense have to be forced? When its in the interest of both parties..

PurpHerbison2992d ago

Isn't that insane though? People complaining about story mode in STREET FIGHTER. Holy crap, i've damn near heard it all... and how you going to complain about arcade mode when the game didn't even have an arcade release...

DARKKENT2992d ago

@purp

The game hasn't even got arcade mode, player vs cpu mode!!!

Its shocking it really is.. I've been hyping this game for a while, only to be massively disappointed

rainslacker2992d ago (Edited 2992d ago )

Sony was likely aware and complicit with what would be released. A publisher isn't going to fund the game without knowing the game's scope, it's release schedule, and how the company plans to support it.

Sony may or may not have a say in what was included, but they knew what they were getting with their money.

I don't think that puts the blame on Sony, just means they supported a product which isn't really up to the content standards of other fighting games. At best, i can think that maybe they were OK with the way the content is being released for the long run, at worst, they did it to have the title on the system regardless of content for the name alone. And there are a myriad of scenarios in between.

As of right now though, there is no indication that Sony has any control over the actual release or content of the game beyond their ability to pull funding if it wasn't up to what they wanted with the help in production. Sony may have had input in the design and release process, as that's not atypical for publisher funded games, but Capcom is a capable developer, so Sony's input wouldn't be as apparent or forceful as it would be with a lesser known or less proven developer.

Me personally, I'm not upset about the lack of story mode, just the vs CPU matches, since that's my primary way to play fighting games. I understand it's a competitive game, but I'm personally not a competitive player. My expectations weren't met. When those things come later, I'll play the game.

DragonKnight2992d ago

@DARKKENT: "criticizing your beloved Sony."

Pretty much says everything anyone needs to know about you and thus renders your opinion worthless.

Still waiting for you to explain what, beyond pulling funding and thus cancelling SFV altogether, you expected Sony to do about an IP they have no control over. Just because SFV is exclusive to PS4 doesn't mean Sony can dictate anything. It means they have certain responsibilities and certain benefts but it's not a carte blanche control mechanism. In return for funding Sony expects Capcom to deliver the product Sony is paying for. Sony's responsibility is to ensure that PS4 users get a functional product, and in return Sony gets all the monetary and market benefits of having an exclusive product.

Unless the contract between Capcom and Sony has specific specifications as to the quality and minimum content Capcom must provide (in which case Sony has some recourse which will be spoken of in a minute), then Sony can't do anything. If the contract has those stipulations and Capcom doesn't deliver, Sony has the legal right to sue for breach of contract forcing the stipulations to be met or remove themselves from the deal and gaining back all funding and damages.

So, for the last time, what do you expect Sony to do? Tell Capcom that they'll pull out due to low quality as a threat? Ok, and when Capcom says "See ya" and SFV doesn't exist, then what? Explain how Sony can make Capcom do anything. I'll wait, but won't hold my breath. You'll probably just come back with more bandwagon hate with no shred of sense or logic.

DARKKENT2992d ago

My opinions worthless because I don't agree or couldn't give a toss what you think?

Ok mr n4g guru.. Really touched your nerve huh to the point you think you can tell people their opinions worthless.... Do your hear yourself child?

If your intelligence is lacking to not understand to delay a game a game a month doesn't mean it needs to be shelved that's your issue..

In not naive or stupid enough to think sony couldn't have intervened I'll leave that for the sheep to believe...

Oh wait your gonna tell me this is worthless such is your influence you believe you hold... I think someone thinks too highly of themselves on a gaming site...

DragonKnight2991d ago

@DARKKENT: Your opinion isn't worthless because you disagree. It's worthless because of... "criticizing your beloved Sony." That statement is why. It shows your clear bias and is all the proof anyone needs to immediately disregard anything you have to say because you're just looking for reasons to jump on a hate bandwagon. Next...

When looking at our exchange, you are clearly the emotional one going on and on, so I think if anyone's nerves have been struck, its yours. Does my child hear myself what? Next...

Exactly how would a delay happen if Capcom didn't want one. Again, I'm waiting for you to provide a course of action Sony could take despite having zero control over the IP. Capcom wanted SFV to be released in time for a tournament and they've been clear from day one how important SFV and the tournament scene is to them. So knowing how adamant that Capcom was to have SFV at this tournament, knowing that it's their IP to control, HOW EXACTLY DO YOU WANT SONY TO INTERVENE BEYOND THREATENING TO PULL FUNDING AND THEREBY SHELVING SFV?!! Are you too dense to answet a question I've asked you so many times?

"I'll leave that for the sheep to believe" that reinforces why your opinion is worthless. From the very start all you've been interested in is pouncing on Sony for any reason.

DARKKENT2991d ago

Here we go again..

unlike you my feelings don't get hurt over a console... Which is why i can criticize.. If you don't like me criticizing your beloved 'yes beloved' sony do i looklike i care? Its your problem being so invested in a company that you can't bear to hear any criticism..

So like i said mr n4g guru you may think it's worthless because your feelings are hurt but don't talk for the masses.. You ain't all that.. child

Now...

How do you know capcom wouldn't have delayed the game? Again your talking like what you say is inside knowledge... Who are you to say they didn't want one? Sony should have approached and intervened.... You know as much as everybody else on this site except without the common sense

And lastly it would take someone of meaning to get me emotional.. Your as far from significance as your comments are from any actual meaning..

DragonKnight2991d ago

@DARKKENT: "unlike you my feelings don't get hurt over a console... Which is why i can criticize.. If you don't like me criticizing your beloved 'yes beloved' sony do i looklike i care? Its your problem being so invested in a company that you can't bear to hear any criticism.."

Feelings have nothing to do with it. You're a bandwagon hater. Meaning, all you did was look for a reason to jump on Sony because you don't like them and just wanted to find any reason to pin something on them. You have provided NO course of action Sony could have taken and yet blame them for something they had no control over. When asked, repeatedly, what Sony could have done, you replied with ad hominems over and over.

"So like i said mr n4g guru you may think it's worthless because your feelings are hurt but don't talk for the masses.. You ain't all that.. child"

You have nothing and your opinion is worthless. Not because I'm a "N4G Guru" with that authority, but because you show a clear, irrational hatred for Sony based on nothing. Got it child?

"How do you know capcom wouldn't have delayed the game? Again your talking like what you say is inside knowledge... Who are you to say they didn't want one? "

Simple. Capcom wanted SFV to release in time for a tournament. Or more specifically in time for competitors to have enough training time for the tournament. They would never delay the game and risk messing up their own tournament. That's why they wouldn't have delayed the game. You know nothing about anything and then dare to criticize people who do. Hilarious.

"Sony should have approached and intervened."

HOW?!!!! For the love of gaming. I have asked you this over and frickin' over. WHAT THE HELL WAS SONY SUPPOSED TO DO?! What does INTERVENING entail in your lack of a mind? I'll even create the scenario for you to fill in the blanks since you're so dense.

Sony: This game doesn't look complete.

Capcom: We needed to release it now in this state for a tournament.

Now, insert Sony's response that would get Capcom to delay the game.

Sony: _____________________

"You know as much as everybody else on this site except without the common sense "

Irony, thy name is DARKKENT.

"And lastly it would take someone of meaning to get me emotional.. Your as far from significance as your comments are from any actual meaning."

LMAO! The "you're not important enough to get to me" classic internet argument, used when someone has nothing to say after having been thoroughly defeated. Good job. I'll continue waiting on your answer, but will still not be holding my breath.

I canceled my preorder yesterday. I'm waiting too. They need some more game modes like the Alpha series had. I'll be waiting until it goes on sell just like I did Rainbow 6.

Perjoss2992d ago (Edited 2992d ago )

I like playstation, sony and i even like capcom (big monster hunter fan) but this is inexcusable. Dont release unfinished garbage. There's this thing called early access, use that if you must until your game is ready.

higgins782992d ago

Good luck with the defence...

I've enjoyed every major SF incarnation to varying degrees, however, the launch of SFV makes makes the launch for Driveclub look positive. You can imagine the trolls if it had launched exclusively on Wii U in this state...OH WOW!

PurpHerbison2992d ago (Edited 2992d ago )

The way people flip flop is absolutely insane. Okay, so let me get this straight. People are bitching about story mode in a game that has always been made fun of for abysmal stories? And arcade mode in a game that didn't even have an arcade release!? It gets even funnier when you consider that SF4 had single player modes but nobody gave a damn and it took a terrible wrap for bad netcode. Now when Capcom finally puts serious funding into the netcode (Which is incredibly solid btw) it just isn't good enough to your average gamer. It comes down to people just wanting something to bitch about. The game could of released with all those boring single player modes and you guys would still cry bloody murder about how it isn't up to par.

Internet reaction brought to you by 2015-2016 era outrage culture. Enjoy

DivineAssault 2992d ago

They shouldve stopped worrying about mikas ass slap & focused on releasing the complete game. Its still fun but STOP RELEASING UNFINISHED PRODUCTS! Last day 1 buy unless i see thorough reviews on what i spend my money on.. MKX at least had the story done but i didnt feel like playing it anymore by the time the DLC released.. Current gen games are always incomplete & thats a huge bummer for people wanting to buy it right away

Street Fighter 5: Analysing a Tarnished Legacy

Street Fighter 5 launched in 2016, and is widely considered a misstep for the hugely popular franchise. This article explains why that is.

Terry_B119d ago

Every Street Fighter is called a misstep of the series since Street Fighter III..and even the Alpha games were not liked by everyone.

SF V had a miserable start but later it did a lot things actually better than SFIV and SF6.

SF6 is the first SF since SFII Turbo for that I did not buy at launch. And today, around 6 months after its launch I still have no motivation to buy it.

kevco33118d ago

I've had every Street Fighter on launch since SFII on the SNES. SFV is definitely my least played of them all.

SF6 is very good. You should give it a second look.

Terry_B118d ago

Maybe in 2-3 years when there is a version that has characters I care for.

So far there is not one of the new characters I like..and my favourite 4 are not a part of it either. (Bison, Balrog, Sagat and Vega) + the whole hip hop style and the crappy music turned me totally off.

Looking forward a lot to Tekken 8.

Sano24118d ago

SF4 vanilla was loved by most and and not considered a misstep. It wasn't until they went revision crazy that people started turning on Capcom.

Terry_B118d ago

Don't remember the criticques it got for the big hands and feet, the sometimes weird looking faces, the lame boss (Seth) and that so many characters were shotos and yup..the many new versions. Just every SF got its haters no matter how good it was.

Nerdmaster118d ago

It was criticized for the first trailers having an interesting art style with those ink splashes, but the real game had none of that and people felt cheated. And Capcom decided to add some of those effects in the game later because of the backlash. But I don't remember any other big complaints about it.

EvertonFC118d ago

I grew out of fighting games, loved them as a kid but online you just get your ass kicked over and over leaving just the bare bones single player and also having no friends anymore who like fighting games either just makes me not want to buy or play them anymore.

CrimsonWing69118d ago

I dunno, I like Street Fighter 5 quite a bit. 🤷‍♂️

Shiro173118d ago

Sf6 is the best sf since sf4ae lol
