It looks like Street Fighter V whitewashed Sean

Though we likely won't know for sure until the full game is released on February 16th, right now it appears that Brazilian Street Fighter III brawler and little brother to Street Fighter V's Laura has gone through a radical racial transformation

It really is, but I'm going to wait for the articles about Capcom being racist against blacks. They were racist for having blacks in Africa after all. May as well be for not making Brazilians look black.

DarkHeroZX3381d ago

Well to be fair Brazil was the largest slave port in the world. It dwarfed the US 10 times. Almost everyone there probably has some black blood in them.

Vhampir3381d ago

I know, but Brazilians skin tone varies greatly anyway. Do a google search for "capcom racist", and limit it to 24 hours, and you see how people have already overreacted.

Personally I'd rather see people talk about Evil Ryu in the SFV intro

ZaWarudo3382d ago

LOL are you kidding me? It's obviously an art style and not canon, look at Laura, she also looks white.

DiscoKid3382d ago (Edited 3382d ago )

I don't think so. If it were desaturated as the art style would imply, he would have appeared much darker than that.

XtraTrstrL3381d ago

We've been discussing it on the Capcom boards, alot saying it's white washing. With a few, including me, that feel it's the horrific quality of the art.

Capcom probably gave Bengus some insultingly low amount of $$$ and time to get the art done in. Because there's no way anyone can rationalize that the quality of the stills we see in these character stories and in the tutorial are anywhere near Bengus's ability.

Them mentioning it's Bengus does nothing for his name when it comes to new viewers of his work. Just looking through them all, it gets worse and worse. Look at the one with Chun Li in the cop uniform kicking at Vega. Look at her proportions even, and lol, Vega's claw tho. LMAO. Capcom 'n their budgets for top franchises, oh god, when will they learn.

Johnny Storm and Heimdall, a Norse god, get portrayed by black actors and we're not supposed to panic. Someone draws some art of Sean looking lighter than we saw him in SF3 years ago and everyone is supposed to lose their minds.

Plenty of characters in this game, and the Street Fighter universe in general, who are not caucasian. This whole boo-hoo article about diversity is garbage. So a character might have gone through a skin tone adjustment. Which probably won't even be reflected in-game because I doubt Sean will be in it. Big deal.

Like I said. Plenty of dark skinned or non-caucasian characters in the game and universe. Take your pick and quit crying already. When actual racism happens, be upset. Like when a black guy gets fired for the same thing a white guy did and got away with.

Bitching about a fictional character being made to look different is the kind of thing that makes a good cause fall on deaf ears. Because it gets mired in frivolous complaints and people stop caring. Because eventually you start feeling like it becomes racist just to be breathing with a certain skin color.

TheOneWhoIsTornApart3381d ago (Edited 3381d ago )

I'm so tired of all these ridiculous overreactions to things. These kinds of people go out of their way to be offended and whine and cry until they get what they want. People need to shut the fu** up grow thicker skin.

You want to see whitewashing? Look no further than Vanessa from Virtua Fighter. She was dark-skinned, then they changed her, as if the character took advice from Sammy Sosa.

Street Fighter 5: Analysing a Tarnished Legacy

Street Fighter 5 launched in 2016, and is widely considered a misstep for the hugely popular franchise. This article explains why that is.

Terry_B499d ago

Every Street Fighter is called a misstep of the series since Street Fighter III..and even the Alpha games were not liked by everyone.

SF V had a miserable start but later it did a lot things actually better than SFIV and SF6.

SF6 is the first SF since SFII Turbo for that I did not buy at launch. And today, around 6 months after its launch I still have no motivation to buy it.

kevco33498d ago

I've had every Street Fighter on launch since SFII on the SNES. SFV is definitely my least played of them all.

SF6 is very good. You should give it a second look.

Terry_B498d ago

Maybe in 2-3 years when there is a version that has characters I care for.

So far there is not one of the new characters I like..and my favourite 4 are not a part of it either. (Bison, Balrog, Sagat and Vega) + the whole hip hop style and the crappy music turned me totally off.

Looking forward a lot to Tekken 8.

Sano24498d ago

SF4 vanilla was loved by most and and not considered a misstep. It wasn't until they went revision crazy that people started turning on Capcom.

Terry_B498d ago

Don't remember the criticques it got for the big hands and feet, the sometimes weird looking faces, the lame boss (Seth) and that so many characters were shotos and yup..the many new versions. Just every SF got its haters no matter how good it was.

Nerdmaster497d ago

It was criticized for the first trailers having an interesting art style with those ink splashes, but the real game had none of that and people felt cheated. And Capcom decided to add some of those effects in the game later because of the backlash. But I don't remember any other big complaints about it.

EvertonFC498d ago

I grew out of fighting games, loved them as a kid but online you just get your ass kicked over and over leaving just the bare bones single player and also having no friends anymore who like fighting games either just makes me not want to buy or play them anymore.

CrimsonWing69498d ago

I dunno, I like Street Fighter 5 quite a bit. 🤷‍♂️

Shiro173497d ago

Sf6 is the best sf since sf4ae lol
