Crysis proves that PC games will always dominate consoles when it comes to bleeding-edge tech.
From Gamepro: "It's official -- the technological power of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 is fizzling into overwrought hype. Even the best looking and performing new-generation console games still fall short of the raw graphical power display by heavy-hitting PC games like Company of Heroes. Now, the next-generation of PC games is right around the corner, and they're poised to blow console gaming off the tech map once and for all. If you thought PC gaming was dead, think again.
In 2007, games like Hellgate: London, Spore, and Half-Life 2: Episode Two will help bring PC gaming back into the limelight. But it's Crysis that will really take gaming to the next level. The beauty of Crysis, though, is that it is being designed for a wide variety of PC specifications, not just the high-end rigs that cost a month's salary.
But judging by what we've seen and played, Crysis may be one game that's worth a big-budget PC upgrade."
A Crysis VR mod is now available for download, allowing users to experience the first entry in the series in VR
No one cares. The whole can it run Crysis is old, dead and stupid. It's also irrelevant, considering only less than one percent of pc owners, own a high-end PC. Second, I believe Crysis wasn't even optimized properly.
Let's hope the modders can get the other Crysis games working in VR as they use the same Cryengine.
GF365: "There are some games with extraordinary visuals that impress us to this day. Here are old games with outstanding graphics."
I always thought the first 3 Gears of War games looked great and still hold up for today.
Far Cry 2 was awesome. In addition to having demonstrably better physics and AI than later games in the series, it had a lot of design decisions that, criticized at the time, have since been praised in games like BOTW and Dark Souls.
It might not be super amazing by today's standard but I thought Mgs3 looked really good
The Humble Company of Heroes Complete Bundle just launched. It includes Company of Heroes, Company of Heroes 2, Company of Heroes: Tales of Valor, and more.
And everyone votes lame because they're a bunch of console fanboys.
People that know tech history were saying this before the 360 launched.
like the PS3, PC's utilizes tech to achive those graphics. and they cost in THE THOUSANDS for a few steps over what a consolecan do. like the PS3's $500-600 compared to the 360's $300-400
"Crysis proves that PC games will always dominate consoles when it comes to bleeding-edge tech"
wow... a modular upgradable device beats a static non-upgradable one. Super-biggie surprise there. All Crysis proves is that DX10 based games look better than DX9 based games. Geeze I'd hope so. :(
GP: What can current PCs do that new consoles can't? With new-generation consoles booming in popularity, do you think upcoming PC titles like Crysis are going to prove again that PCs lead gaming technology?
CY: CRYSIS IS TAKING FULL ADVANTAGE OF DX10 WITH OUR INITIAL RELEASE SP, IN THIS CASE. PCS STILL HAVE A SIGNIFICANT LEAD AS FAR AS GAMING TECHNOLOGY IS CONCERNED....... Our vision is to deliver the best FPS experience and we believe that's only possible on PC.
GP: Are the any plans for an Xbox 360 version, and would cross-platform compatibility be possible?
CY: The inevitable question! Of course we're looking at the options but now we're working hard to bring the Crysis as a PC game to market, one which will hopefully set a new bar for FPS games, that's our goal, and we will push very hard to deliver this.
I'm guessing after they make a DX9 port, then we'll see it on the 360 and PS3.
this game looks better on any pc than it would on the consoles. You will need an high end one and put a lot of money in it. It probably won't even run on a average pc. Correct me if I'm wrong, I don't know much about pc-gaming.
Both PS3 and Xbox 360 are more like Direct X 9.5. These machines are quite capable at doing more than what was offered on to DX9 users. Now the question is: Is the Graphic Bar raised by DX10 worth $2000 grand more than a PS3 or Xbox 360. If the Wii is any indication that Powerful Graphics is not the only factor when consumers invest into gaming then I doubt that pretty gaming is the only factor. I love PC gaming because I'm a Big on Art and CG(as well as good gameplay), but at what price. I interested in the PS3 and I have an Xbox 360 but I can't afford a PS3 right now. I have a feeling I will be able to purchase a PS3 long before I will be able to purchase a new $2500 DX10 gaming rig.
