"Ultimately, the story feels like a framework for a more open world focused Hitman game. In a manner that’s quite unfashionable for a AAA title, IO Interactive have stated that the game won’t have a season pass for additional content, as they believe that this is the “wrong approach.” A lot of people would agree with this sentiment, and then we see the preorder plan for Hitman."
If you are playing Hitman for the story then you are playing it wrong. You are making your own story by choosing how and when you take your targets. I really think this game is gonna be great and will go back to Hitman roots. I am just not too thrilled about the episodic stuff.
"Quantum Break looks generic in every sense of the word; the gameplay looks like every single uninspired third person shooter over the past decade; the story sounds like a TV drama that you’d find on late at night on SyFy right after what Sharknado film we’re up to now; even the title is pretty generic, taking a word that thrown around by scientists a lot and then just an action word on the end of it. Look, I can do that right now: Atom Jump. Try it yourself."
And that is where i really stopped taking this writer of the article serious. I really hate when people judge a game without trying it.
So this author has a personal preference on video games, and displaces that on to how all gamers should feel about upcoming games?
Cool, you aren't excited for a few games for petty reasons. No need to write a pointless article about it. A lot of people are excited about those games for the very reasons you listed they shouldn't be.
"Quantum Break... Even the title is generic..." the poor journalism lost me right there.
You could say the same about Uncharted 4, Bloodbourne, Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart, etc... However, just because a game doesn't seem to bring a lot of new stuff to the table doesn't make it a bad game. The Last of Us is hardly known for innovation, yet stands as one of the best games of last gen. We trust Mario Kart entries, Smash Bros entries, Gears of War, Halo, Uncharted, and many other series will be good games because of the track record of the series and the developers. Remedy has made some good games in the past and they like to take their time and make sure their game is good. I don't even own an XBox One and I still think it'll be a cool game.
Yeah article creator is clueless. Yeah he has an opinion, but most gamers won't agree with most of the crap he wrote. The only games on the list that I'm not all that overly excited about are Dead Island 2 and The Last Guardian. I was never a big fan of the first Dead Island, so I'm not all that pumped to play the sequel. The Last Guardian demo that was shown at the E3 just bored me. I'm sure there's a lot more to the game, but it's simple slow puzzle gameplay just had me scratching my head. I was looking for a bit more action and excitement.
@jambola I'm not the only one who disagrees about this article. Read everyone else's comments. Some of the games he listed really haven't been hyped to begin with. So why even have them on the list. Who is hyped for Hitman? The game was just recently announced I thought.
I don't think Dead Island 2 has that much hype surrounding it. It was an OK title. Dying Light has blown them out of the zombie cesspool! It will be interesting to see if Dead Island emulates Dying Light...
OMG this Quantum Break article is cringe worthy FFS the dude can't even spell the names of the Protagonist/Antagonist actors (Shaun Ashmore/Aiden Turner?)
When did we manipulate time in Max Payne? No Remedy INVENTED Bullet-time. And now they're taking it a step further.
Compares the story to Sharknado... My god who is this kid?
1) People make mistakes - he's corrected the names. Not a big deal.
2) Lookup the word manipulate. I believe slowing down time falls under that definition.
3) Remedy didn't INVENT bullet-time. They popularised it as a gameplay mechanic. Bullet time concept has origins in classic film going back decades. The effect was in games earlier: http://www.gamesradar.com/a... What is it with these guys making wild claims of origin like last-gen's wonderful claim "Gears of War invented cover-shooting"? It just popularised it, guys.
4) I love the look of Quantum Break, but how are they taking it a step further, from what has been shown? Has Remedy gone into details of it? I'd like to read about it. The multi-character vision seemed fascinating, until they axed Beth as a playable character. I've not really seen much other than juddering environmental glitches (visual FX) and paused time to look around the environment. Not sure how it affects gameplay in brand new ways. Thanks in advance.
5) He 100% did NOT compare the story to Sharknado. He said that the story (i.e. live action cutscenes) looks like something they would show "late at night on SyFy right after" a film like that. And to be honest, after having watched them again, he's kinda right. There's nothing gripping about the acting, the characters or the story from pre-release scenes.
OMG I think this is an awful article in general, but I don't see your counter arguments helping much. Sounds unworthily defensive. What are your thoughts on the other games in this article?
First of all go read last months Game Informer. Second of all what AAA developer out there is truly doing anything new? There's a point of view (1st person, 3rd person,Isometric, etc.), an environment and enemies. Then there is interaction with said enemies and environments. These are the cores of any game and this will never change. Like your every waking day on the earth. None of Remedy's games have brought anything new to the genre. They have been largely narrative driven but excellent nonetheless. Very few games are bringing anything new. Nobody's reinventing the wheel these days. Media Molecule is trying to different stuff but they are stretching the definition of a game. Indie devs are the only ones trying new and different things. Everything in the AAA space has been done before in some way and we are just swapping character models/monsters and telling different stories. The truth is games don't have to reinvent the wheel, they just have to engaging and entertaining. Remedy has never made a bad game and this game is going to rock.
I didn't know there was hype around Dead Island 2 at all.
And, my only issue with Quantum Break will be if they utilize the same stifled controls as they did with Alan Wake. Just didn't feel good to me and hope it's a smoother experience.
I haven't finished all of Ico, but i know in shadow of the collosses most of it was go kill giant, repeat and their was the slightest bit of story included
Not quite sure what you're trying to say about the last guardian. It's pretty hard to make any assumptions on the game based on what's been shown, except for the fact the team ico has only made great games in the past. And No man's sky, I'm very excited about, but also a bit nervous that it won't be as good as I want it to be. Regardless, I'm probably not going to preorder either. After the order, I decided that I'm only preordering a game if it's from devs that I consistently like or a franchise that I consistently like.
Based on what was shown of TLG, I don't know how one couldn't be excited for it if they have played ICO and liked it. The game seems so much like it's going to be very similar in mechanics, and we all know they can craft a moving story.
Who on Earth watched the reveal trailer of TLG back in 2009 and gameplay footage that followed, and thought "this is going to be epic on the scale of Shadow of the Colossus"??
It was always going to be grand, but introverted adventure. An intimate tale of two friends helping each other escape imprisonment. I feel TLG will be closer in direction to, and have more in common with Ico. Having said that, it is looking to maintain the best aspects of previous games:
The puzzle-platformer/adventure and cause to escape - from Ico. The bonding of two characters - from both Ico and SotC. The traversing of a living creature - from SotC.
The vision really has not changed, but the new hardware has allowed a smoother gameplay experience and larger environments. The game looks beautiful and indeed better than last-gen game - Team Ico always pushes for a captivating art style. What matters most with their games, like you said, is how they make you feel throughout and especially at the end.
"Not quite sure what you're trying to say about the last guardian. It's pretty hard to make any assumptions on the game based on what's been shown" do you say that to people who good things about the game too?
Look TLG to me can't be a let down, why because the technology was not available at the time, as powerful as SONY PR claimed PS3 couldn't handle it, this generation can, please don't try and defend the lack of power PS3, or the game would have been made, released and we would be talking up part two, now we are in 2016, TLG is getting a release finally. This game good or bad it will sell big time, why because of how long it has taken in development.
NOW QUANTUM BREAK
Who are you to question a developer who has a successful gaming track record, if Remedy made shit crap games they would be out of business, you are been very narrow minded towards this game, what looks like it will be trilogy and characters evolution, think back to when you first saw uncharted, did you prejudge too, before playing it or waited to have it in your hands.
People like you are a danger to the gaming environment and your toxic article is nothing but that toxic, now go play something and leave/keep your opinions to yourself
The Last Guardian will have more in common with ICO than SOTC. You play a child in an unknown world and rather than having a girl beside you. You have a giant bird/dog thing. Which comes in more handy than the girl for traversing the world. For example, getting over certain obstacles and reaching certain areas in the world. All while solving the occasional puzzle. You'll ultimately be trying to escape from something. While trying to avoid and fight a mysterious enemy. The ending will leave more questions than answers. Then when it's all over. You'll ask yourself if the wait was worth it?
I am excited for Last Guardian - No Man's Sky looks like a good exploration game . Quantum Break I am not sure about but too early to tell. I am not to excited about Hitman but I may pick it up after all of the episodes are released.Dead Island 2 has been delayed so long I almost forgot about it, another game I will grab after a price drop unless what they show is really good.
I have to agree. Quantum Break looks like the Order of 2016. A game that mostly focuses on graphics and has very little, linear gameplay...and a TV show? Lol.
Yet a lot of ppl on this site had no problems with the order 1886, had a good story..The"movie" Until Dawn. Quick time after quick time, but the best part was they added different situations and endings by what you choose to do.
Quantum Break offers what you do in the game, will effect what happens on the tv show.. If ppl can praise until dawn, and is mostly an interactive movie, Quantum Break should do fine. It might be linear, but it's ok if story and gameplay is good. The history of Remedy's greatness proves they know what they are doing..

How can you not hype Last Guardian? Its been resurrected from the dead!
No Man's Sky will be VR compatible and will be a launch title for PS VR so I'm confident it's going to be awesome.
Rest of them agreed but not sure Dead Island is a 2016 game :p
I would apply this to almost any game to be honest..
Especially the new ips..
temper your expectations.. you can either be blown away or not disappointed.
Agree with Dead Island 2. You can add the new Homefront game too
