Multi-Part Final Fantasy VII Remake is Not the End of the World

Hardcore Gamer:This past weekend, more footage from the hugely anticipated Final Fantasy VII Remake was released in the form of a cinematic gameplay trailer. Understandably, the trailer and the announcements that accompany it, have caused massive amounts of speculation and discussion as the world dissects and digests the footage.

I was thinking, what if they split the game into thirds and charged 20 dollars apiece so that the end result was the price of a regular MSRP game.

Part 1: Midgar
Part 2: Kalm to Ice Mountain Snowboarding
Part 3: Endgame

Sort of like the way the discs were separated.

HammadTheBeast3481d ago

That's what you're thinking. What they're thinking, is to split up the game into 3 parts, like FF XIII, and then charge $60 apiece.

Because why not? People will still buy it. If you can milk the fans 3x as much, why not?

Bimkoblerutso3481d ago (Edited 3481d ago )

I have no idea why you are getting disagrees. NOTHING SquareEnix has done recently points to anything but a cash grab with this nonsense. Big business companies like this do not randomly develop good will.

I think with a game as legendary as FFVII, people are willing to accept anything just so they can stay excited.

Summons753481d ago

Oh you were in that meeting? Cool because they haven't went into further details about what they are planning and butthurt kids like you are being drama queens as always.

gangsta_red3481d ago

They are definitely trying out this type of design by implementing it in one the most requested and anticipated title in their library.

It's no surprise that they wouldn't want to one and done this, but instead draw this out as long as possible.

Bimkoblerutso3481d ago

I would be more than happy to eat crow on this, but I don't think it's going to happen. These people are not our friends and they didn't just randomly get a jolt of good will and decide to remake the game now after fans have been asking for it since the PS2.

The industry is at a point now where it is very profitable to milk older games and franchises.

Gamer4News3481d ago

So it'll be split into 3 Disks, just like the original? I am fine with that.

HammadTheBeast3481d ago

@Summons75

Literally everything we know about the company says they will do this. They've sold the same remakes of FF games for $15-20 on the app store for ages, they sold FF XIII as a 3-part series for $60 each (isn't that the same as this?), and they are a company who wants to make money, and that is an easy strategy to make 3x the money.

@Gamer4News

Yes, 3 disks, but the original didn't cost you $150+ did it?

99% sure they will charge 60 bucks for each part. They said each part will be a "full-sized game". Not sure what SE considers "full-sized", but will most likely be similar to content presented in the FFXIII series.

Fans told SE to take their money when they saw the teaser, and so they listened, LOL.

SegaSaturn6693481d ago

You would think that an action oriented title would play much more quickly than a game with random encounters.

And then, if episodic, what happens if you try to start from a later episode with no previous save data? I thought I saw a clause in the ps vita unity devkit contract that stated a game published must be playable from start to finish even for separate standalone content.

Adrian_v013481d ago

@segasaturn

Mass Effect 2 and 3 could be played without previous saves. In 3 you had the option to go through the story of 1 and 2 in form of a comic book which let you make all the story important choices.

TheROsingleB3481d ago

They probably won't do this, however. It will come out as a $60 game each time; Look at Final Fantasy 13 and it's sequels - only with this, you already know the whole story and if you want to play it to the end, you pay to the end. If you didn't like 13 but bought it, you opted out of the rest of it.
Square will milk milk milk the sweet tears of the Final Fantasy 7 crybabies, who will proceed to buy each part simply because "OMG FF7".
I will eat my fucking hat if part 1 of this game does not release at $60 initially. You are likely to be buying a $180 product when all is said and done.
Before you slam me with disagrees, look at it this way. With the amount of man-hours they need to put into this, it's an expensive -EXPENSIVE- project. It will absolutely be considered "AAA" when released, and will command that cost to recoup the expense of putting it all together. This is not a downloadable budget title, kids.

I'm not saying this will be a bad game, and I want to see it happen like anyone else, but I'm being realistic about what they're about to do.

Rookie_Monster3481d ago

Maybe...but it could be the end of my wallet.

Let see the first game out first and see where this project is heading.

deathtok3481d ago

Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!

nick3093481d ago

So many articles about the multi part remake, only news i see lol

Lon3wolf3481d ago

I'll wait for concrete info etc. before deciding whether this approach is good or bad.

Yeah. That’s the first I’ve seen it anywhere near #1.

Mario 64 is great but I wouldn’t put it over Mario World.

Not having any Xenoblade Chronicles games on the list is a crime.

CUnit123123109d ago

Sorry lol. I wrote the article but 5 of us voted for many different games and majority went on the list then we worked on the list. If it were just my personal top favorite we'd seen some xenoblade and star ocean as well as some others. Thanks for checking out it!

Chrono Trigger at 31 makes my heart hurt.

Not having any Xenoblade Chronicles games on the list at all is a crime.

This Guy Rebuilt The Original Final Fantasy 7 In LittleBigPlanet 2, And It's Awesome

Nearly 27 years after the original game's release, Final Fantasy 7 superfan Jamie Colliver has finished his magnum opus: A shot-for-shot remake of the original PlayStation 1 game, created entirely via LittleBigPlanet 2. Colliver's remake reimagines the original game as a platformer, with every scene, every location, every line of dialogue, and every song from the game's OST painstakingly implemented .

The effort here is impressive. Hope it doesn’t get taken down.

fr0sty319d ago

He should have done it in Dreams though, the limitations of having done it in LBP are obvious.

solideagle319d ago

ah Dreams had so much potential, I think they should have released it on PC. one can only dream about dreams sale and popularity on PC. PC has modding/creative crowd and I think it would have been a hit

gleepot318d ago

I love seeing projects like this. So much passion and time.
