Bloodborne: The Old Hunters Review | Gamespot

Gamespot: "The remaining humans in Bloodborne’s dead city of Yharnam think you’re making a mistake to even consider this new adventure. When you talk to them, they say that there’s nothing here for you, that it’s a nightmare. They’re incorrect on both counts. As an expansion that is a couple of areas and one boss fight short of being robust by add-on standards, The Old Hunters still has a good deal of tests for hardened Bloodborne and Souls enthusiasts. And no, the re-imagining of this Gothic urban landscape isn’t a nightmare--it’s a hellscape."

The game of the Decade just got a little better ;-)

What a masterpiece.

Wallstreet373468d ago (Edited 3468d ago )

Yeah i got it up there with Demon Souls. This game is awesome. I bought Dragon Age Inquisition which won GOTY last year for many and i hated it and think it doesnt hold a candle to BB. I also bought Witcher 3 and i understand why ppl love it (great world filled with things to do, good quests, great graphics, story, etc...) but i played it several hours and then just forgot about it because i hated its combat and all that dialogue.

Blood borne is definitely my GOTY and along with the other Souls games one of my favorite of all time!

Im really excited for the new weapons and dlc!!!!!

fenome3463d ago

Yeah, I made the mistake of letting the hype whisk me away with Dragon Age..I preordered the digital version like an idiot. Everything they showed is the kind of thing I love in games, and then I played it... the gameplay was terrible, I just stopped after a while because I lost interest. I was building up the castle and everything and then I just stopped and I don't really care. I even have the digital copy so I can still hop in and play whenever I want but it's all the same, the gameplay sucked and I totally lost interest. I can't take anything seriously where I can just hold a button and spam attacks, it's redundant, I want to feel a part of combat. Kingdoms of Amalur had much better combat, I was really hoping someone would pick up that IP and do it justice, but no, it just sits there owned by the state of Rhode Island because it was squandered away by an already rich baseball player who squandered it away...sad really..

Bloodborne is amazing though, I need that responsiveness when I play! If I push a button something better freakin' happen, you know you're actually the one doing it, and it's happening because of you and your timing. I think that's the main difference, it's happening because of you, you're not just a bystander watching it play out...

wakeNbake3468d ago

Yeah I personally enjoyed it more than TLOU.

djplonker3468d ago

Does anyone know if ng+ will effect the difficulty of the expansion?

I ask because the game is kicking my a** on my second playthrough.

GryestOfBluSkies3468d ago

i dont know for sure, but id guess yes it does

djplonker3468d ago (Edited 3468d ago )

*whimpers*

Thanks

O.o

IIFloodyII3468d ago

Most likely, how much though, we don't know, could be easy (by Souls standards), or really hard depending on how they balanced it for NG+.

Wallstreet373468d ago

They said it scales and does. NG plus will be more difficult even on expansion.

Izalith3468d ago

Im at NG 5+. This DLC is awesome, playing it right now!

So I have a question for those with the plat: I need to kill the last chalice dungeon boss but in order to get to her, i need to get one more living string from the huge eye you defeat. I killed it without recieving anything and there is no way to get anymore. Is there any other way to get living string that I dont know of? Im hoping this DLC gives you another way too

kratos1233468d ago

i am certain you can buy string from the shop next to the chalice, where you buy everything with insight

Omar913468d ago

I will check it out but doubt living string is there at the moment. I need to do something in order for it to appear in the store

Mr Lahey3468d ago

You need to kill the brain to get the string. After you got that one, you can buy it with insight in hunters dream. :)

Eiyuuou3468d ago

Just so you know, dropping the brain doesn't kill it.

The first big room you get ftee the tons of spiders, remeber that? Where you meet the midgets for the first time? Go further in until you get in the room with the two Big mommas with cleavers and chains. It's the room with the collapsed floor. To the right of the entrance of said room is a birdcage you can get into after you drop tje big brain. It'll take you down to an abyss like area where momma brain has fallen to. Then you can kill it and get the Living String.

Hope I could help!

IIFloodyII3468d ago

Did you kill it, or just make it fall? I think you can buy them after killing it too, from the Insight shop.

WildArmed3468d ago (Edited 3468d ago )

Did you physically kill it in the abyss?

Once you drop it, you need to go to the abyss to finish it off. Make it pay for all that damn frenzy damage.

Once you kill it there, you'll be able to buy living strong as well as getting it as a reward for killing it.
If you have done this already, do a NG+. It'll take you like 2-4 hours to get to there. And you get another blood rock too for doing so :D

10 Expansions That Are Better Than The Main Game

NoobFeed Editor Joshua Burt writes - It is now a mainstay of gaming that post a title's release, and DLC will accompany the game. Some of the most popular games of the last fifteen years have followed this practice. But there are some DLCs that are better than others. That stands on the shoulders of their base game, and in some cases… Surpass it. These are the 10 expansions that were better than the main game.

Damn, I feel stupid when years ago I played all the dlc for fallout 3 except the pitt. My younger ass looked at it and thought it was boring without trying I believe... Well good reason to fire up the old dusty ps3!

PhillyDillyDee1066d ago

Bethesda usually does great DLC. Makes sense they are on the list 3 times.

generic-user-name1066d ago

Solid list, I'd add inFamous: Festival of Blood, although it was a standalone download, it still felt like an inFamous 2 expansion.

Blood and Wine might be the best ever though.

SullysCigar1066d ago

I'd also add in Horizon The Frozen Wilds. As I started it, I wasn't sure I had the energy, but my God that was awesome. Some of the best weapons, enemies and missions in Horizon for sure.

RaidenBlack1066d ago

Blood and Wine is always the reason these "best DLC of all time" list gets made in the first place nowadays.
Don't think CDPR can come any where near with any upcoming CP2077 DLC.

Silly Mammo1066d ago

I have beaten Bloodborne but though i have the DLC I never played through it. For now I want to wait and see if it gets a Bluepoint remake.

anast1066d ago

It's the best DLC in the genre. You are missing out.

SarwarRon1066d ago

I double that. If you've liked Bloodborne, don't miss out The Old Hunters.

1065d ago
MadLad1066d ago

I skipped on Demons Souls remake, but Bloodborne would be day one. I love the game, but it is very, very jaggy and really needs a 60fps edition.

anast1066d ago

I didn't like Blood and Wine too much, but the grandmaster gear is worth it.

Praise The Fun — Why The ‘Soulslike’ Sub-Genre Was The Last Great Gameplay Revolution

DBC: “As soon as I had tasted FromSoftware’s new risk-and-reward formula, there was no going back. Its bleak beauty, its goading challenge, and its eerie otherworldliness coursed through my veins like a brand-new, intoxicating Estus-like tincture. From that point on, I was hooked on its electrifyingly addictive gameplay loop and back-to-basics game design. For me, and for many other folks out there, the Souls franchise was nothing short of a revolution.”

Really great write up! Dark Souls is absolutely one of the most influential games ever made.

Venoxn4g1954d ago

For me it's VR if that counts
