The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Faithfully Recreated In Unreal Engine 4

Polycount's member 'DRIVEJUNKY95' has recreated Skyrim in Unreal Engine 4. The key point here is how faithful to the real game DRIVEJUNKY95's take actually is. It's so faithful that you'll have a hard time distinguishing DRIVEJUNKY95's project from the real thing.

Sure would be nice if Bethesda would be game developers and not paid modders so they could dump that awful engine of theirs and move to something more next-gen...

DragonKnight3462d ago

Well they are kinda stuck there. Creation Engine is what makes modding in Bethesda games as big as it is, and unless they make a new one, fans would get pissed if modding wasn't as big in a new Bethesda game because of a new engine.

But Creation Engine has long since past its prime and really needs updating at the minimum.

thekhurg3462d ago

Gamebryo/Creation Engine isn't what makes modding possible in their games. It's just Bethesda releasing the toolkits.

The Witcher 3 has great modding tools and isn't hamstrung by a terrible game engine. Honestly, I can't think of one positive thing Gamebryo/Creation Engine does for Bethesda games that couldn't be accomplished by another engine with fewer drawbacks.

Part of me thinks that Bethesda is "stuck" with the engine because that's all they've worked with since Morrowind's development - and since they've focused so heavily on hiring people from within the Elderscrolls Community when they have openings, it might be a situation where they don't have anyone with enough engine coding experience to create something better.

I dunno - I just wish they'd change engines. I really like their games and what they try to do, I just feel like the game's engine is fighting the player every step of the way.

"Gamebryo/Creation Engine isn't what makes modding possible in their games. It's just Bethesda releasing the toolkits."

Who said it did? I said it makes modding BIG. Bethesda made the engine to facilitate modding, making the mod scene for their games bigger than any other and dramatically increasing the lifespan of their games.

nveenio3462d ago

I'm not sure these images are any better than my modded copy of Skyrim. I think they'll have something pretty nice for the next Elder Scrolls if the engine improves as much over Skyrim as it has over Fallout 3.

thekhurg3462d ago

Bethesda didn't make the engine dude... So they didn't make the engine for modding.

Again, many other games having modding tools it has nothing to do with the engine, just what they put in the toolkit.

frostypants3461d ago

@thekhurg, Bethesda didn't make Gamebryo, but they did build the Creation engine on top of it.

They need an all new Creation Engine for the next Elder Scrolls. I already have 30 hours in Fallout 4 and it is undeniably fun, but MY GOD IS IT UGLY. They use textures from 10 years ago and the facial animation is really bad.

The trade-off is the modding, but they just need to make a new one that is just as moddable.

IanTH3462d ago

It's strange how often I hear this game looks ugly. I don't think it looks ugly, but you are spot on about the facial animations. Those are pretty rough. I feel like Bethesda get a lot of flack for not having an open world game look like The Order 1886. I ended up buying FO4 on my PC rather than PS4 so I'm not sure if some things people complain about are just amplified on consoles. It's not AMAZING looking, and I'd love more visual fidelity, but it isn't ugly - to my eyes anyway.

nveenio3462d ago

I think Bethesda has enough money to make it look as good as The Witcher 3. They should at least be able to do that. I could even live with what Fallout 4 is if there were more dynamic environments and no loading screens.

Takwin3462d ago (Edited 3462d ago )

I am playing at Ultra with everything maxed at 1600p on a 31" monitor and a 290x (where I play everything except Sony and Nintendo exclusives, as well as Ubisoft games, because I despise uPlay).

Even with all that, it is still ugly. Still very fun and not that buggy, but seriously bland, poor-textured, and not visually appealing.

Unspoken3462d ago

Totally agree. The world and environments look really good. The lighting, shadows, grass are pretty amazing at 1440p / 60fps on Ultra. Using two 970s to achieve this on a 4K big screen and the only gripe I have with the graphics are character models and facial animations.

I push Witcher 3 at the same res and it gives the environments a run for its money, even slightly edging it out.

UlyssesFeral3462d ago

I don't think Fallout 4 looks bad. But there's no doubt that it's fallen behind the competition where visuals go. I hope they push the limits for the next Elder Scrolls game, because Skyrim had a big wow factor for me way back in the day. I want that feeling again.

DivineAssault 3462d ago

Bethesda needs a current gen engine. Its time for them to build something new & it would be sweet if they remastered skyrim for PS4

frostypants3461d ago

They ported Skyrim to the One as part of the Fallout 4 development process. So it shouldn't be too hard for them to port it to PS4 and release it on both platforms. Don't see it happening though.

mogwaii3459d ago

The long loading screens, bad blurry textures and FOG EVERYWHERE even in small seperately loaded indoor environments are my gripes with fallout 4, the lighting is great but man i do hope the next elder scrolls gets better treatment.

Fallout and Skyrim show us that talented developers make great games when you leave them alone

That judicious lack of oversight permeated everything in Bethesda's RPGs, in a positive fashion.

Christopher22d ago

I much prefer a left alone Obsidian and Larian Studios. Bethesda's formula has grown old for me.

anast20d ago

Larian hit another level with DOS:2 and then took it even further with BG3. They do high quality work.

jznrpg21d ago (Edited 21d ago )

Skyrim was a letdown compared to previous games and so was Fallout 4

Kosic20d ago

I agree, I found it an interesting game. But nowhere near worth the hype (unless you include mods)

dmonee21d ago

Skyrim blew my mind when it released. That game took me to the gaming, promisedland. Going back to it when it was updated for the PS5, it felt slightly rough around the edges, but great for its time

TheColbertinator20d ago

We should leave Obsidian alone. Bethesda on the other hand should be kept under constant psychiatric observation.

anast20d ago

Skyrim feels like the game was made in a hurry with a disorganized team.
