When it comes to gameplay at least, Darksiders 2: Deathinitive Edition arguably merits comparison with the acclaimed game series that inspired it.
With God of War: Ragnarok launching on PC later this month, we decided to take its prequel for a spin on the Steam Deck OLED. Fortunately, the game looks and runs admirably with consistent frametimes and sharp textures.
Whatever form the next God of War game takes, it needs to be clear about what role Kratos is playing, lest the franchise lose direction.
I'm pretty sure it'd be a major mistake having Atreus as the main character in the next GoW. Seems to me like at best people tolerate him and his gameplay sections.
Ideally the story for the next game would be that Atreus has gone missing in Egypt, Kratos gets mad about it, picks up Mimir and goes on a god killing rampage.
They need to bring back the "God of War" in God of War. I was expecting to unleash hell and fury in Asgard against Thor that they really talked up in the first game but all we got was brooding middle aged dad drunk in a beer hall. Ragnarok was still "good" but I left that game expecting a lot more.
Tried Rag... just couldn't get into it. Felt like more of the same. I would welcome a Kratos only game again.
Now that Death Stranding has landed on iOS, here are five other PS4-era blockbusters that we'd love to have to play on our iPhones at any time.
No
Good game GOW is just better game.
Darksiders 1? Yes. Darksiders 2? Not so much.
Both are great games in their own terms. I tend to lean towards Darksiders 2 because I really liked the open world & RPG aspects of it.
It actually reminded me more of Zelda than God of War.
Yes it does. The gameplay was way more fluid and fun than GoW, the story was more interesting too.
I'm torn between being a GOW fanboy and loving Darksiders to bits, making having a favourite between the 2 very difficult.
If anything, Darksiders has proven it is possible to make a GOW game with more depth in the combat and gameplay, have dungeons and puzzles as well as rpg elements.
The story and characters are given a lot more depth in Darksiders and it has a far bigger and varied campaign. The problem I have with GOW games is that ultimately it is all over to quick. The production value is through the roof and the set pieces are out of this world with nothing coming close, but the games are just way too short. Darksiders seems to have a good balance of scale, and with better production values it would be beastly.
Here is to hoping Corey has taken note for the next game he is making.
