Fallout 4 development began with Skyrim port for XONE

ATTF: "Fallout 4 began development long before the PS4 and Xbox One had their final hardware figured out. This meant that once it was, the team at Bethesda has to become familiar with the systems so they could get their game running. To do this, according to an interview with Game Informer, the team ported The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim to the Xbox One."

Interesting; an Skyrim port for XONE and then made fallout 4 out of that template. Very intriguing!

Neonridr3517d ago

makes you wonder what happened to said port.. ;)

scark923517d ago

Well I hope it is not gone down the.. 'Port'a Potty!

Thefreeman0123517d ago

I'd imagine they would wait until closer to elder scrolls 6 announcement to Get people hyped. Surely they wouldn't do it any time near Fallout 4.

With that said it would be cool to receive the same mod treatment that Fallout is getting

UltraNova3516d ago

I hope they decided to can it and let the team focus on elder scrolls 6 instead. Or better yet use that time to bug test the hell out of F4!

someOnecalled3516d ago

its crazy because people was criticizing gfx of this game and was bashed, and now this news comes out. people state how the tend to use the same engine and assets for too long, but people get upset for stating the obvious.

im glad they always focus on gameplay and lore, but like COD devs i wish the would just make a new engine and up their gfx.

Satyre283517d ago (Edited 3517d ago )

Skyrim coming to X1 confirmed. Willing to bet anything anyway that it will be on the list of games in the first batch of BC, seems like Bethesda and Xbox are having that duo relationship.

2pacalypsenow3516d ago

I would much rather have a remaster than the same 360/Ps3 version

FastRedPonyCar3516d ago

At best you would get the PC version's "high res" texture pack and better draw distance and that'd be it. ...and I use high res rather sarcastically because they were a blurry joke compared to the 4K parallaxed textures that the modders cranked out.

Randostar3516d ago

Todd Howard told people "Don't hold your breath" when he was asked if we would see that port any time soon.

FastRedPonyCar3516d ago

Likely will not happen until they have it running on PS4 as well (which now that they have fallout on PA4 shouldn't be difficult since it's built off skyrim's engine)

generic-user-name3517d ago

I'd prefer a remastered Oblivion myself.

Randostar3516d ago

They would literally have to redo the ENTIRE game's assets. All the models look soooo terribly dated now.

generic-user-name3516d ago

That's fine by me, I loved Oblivion for it's quests not it's assets.

I'll never forget how disappointed I was in Skyrim's Dark Brotherhood questline compared to Oblivion's.

-Foxtrot3516d ago

@generic-user-name

Thieves guild aswell

Didn't feel like I was doing enough stealing in that quest line. Just finding out about the Nightingales.

Dark Brotherhood should have had more quests like the Whodunit one. That was awesome and if they did one like Skyrim but on a much bigger scale it could have been epic

@Fox

Loved the Thieves Guild in Oblivion too, especially that final quest. Amazing.

Whodunnit was brilliant but my favourite part was when you've to try to find the traitor, I remember when I went into that lighthouse and saw the mother's head, for some reason I felt like I should take it even though I didn't need to and then when I returned to see what happened to Lucien, I dumped the head on the ground because I knew one was the killer, I was utterly shocked to see that the killer actually let out a gasp as I did. I never expected any of the NPCs to react to me dropping anything on the ground, but because I randomly did that, I knew who the traitor was and it was one of my favourite moments in gaming.

sullynathan3516d ago

Worst TES game made.
Dumbed down from morrowind, by far the most generic setting of the series, stupid oblivion gates.
Why would you want this?

Allsystemgamer3516d ago

Skyrim was even more dumb down dude. Can't create spells? Less skills? Come on now. Sky rim was a MUCH more casual game than oblivion.

It was the first TES I didn't finish.

sullynathan3516d ago

Difference is that Skyrim didn't have as many broken elements like over leveled enemies.
At least Skyrim's combat was much better.

FastRedPonyCar3516d ago

Oblivion was awful compared to skyrim and the ever so superior Morrowind.

Thankfully, there is a dedicated team of modders rebuilding Morrowind from the ground up using the Skryim engine :D

Allsystemgamer3516d ago

Oblivion was a way better game. The story was better. The quests were more than "go get my sword". The quests in skyrim were boring and the game had MANY features taken out from oblivion much like oblivion from morrowind.

BallsEye3516d ago (Edited 3516d ago )

Best ES that ever came out, and I've played all of them (including 2d ones). Skyrim is the worst so far. Oblivion was a masterpiece, true jump to next gen. It had more simulation going on than Skyrim (NPCs even changing clothes for sleeping, having a good memory, etc) Morrowind was almost just as good.

I think i made the mistake of giving Mama Murphy too many chems. Because I could never get my settlement past 98% happiness, and it even cost me the Platinum.

MS could compress their games on disc

raWfodog36d ago (Edited 36d ago )

Skyrim is still my favorite ES game. I’m playing through it again right now since I never finished it.

jznrpg25d ago

Morrowind is by far my favorite. But I’m getting old and played Daggerfall Morrowind and Oblivion before Skyrim

ActualWhiteMan35d ago

Yeah totally. Definitely won’t be hacking it Nintendo 🤞🏻

Fallout and Skyrim show us that talented developers make great games when you leave them alone

That judicious lack of oversight permeated everything in Bethesda's RPGs, in a positive fashion.

I much prefer a left alone Obsidian and Larian Studios. Bethesda's formula has grown old for me.

anast63d ago

Larian hit another level with DOS:2 and then took it even further with BG3. They do high quality work.

jznrpg64d ago (Edited 64d ago )

Skyrim was a letdown compared to previous games and so was Fallout 4

Kosic63d ago

I agree, I found it an interesting game. But nowhere near worth the hype (unless you include mods)

dmonee64d ago

Skyrim blew my mind when it released. That game took me to the gaming, promisedland. Going back to it when it was updated for the PS5, it felt slightly rough around the edges, but great for its time

TheColbertinator63d ago

We should leave Obsidian alone. Bethesda on the other hand should be kept under constant psychiatric observation.

anast63d ago

Skyrim feels like the game was made in a hurry with a disorganized team.
