Tales of Zestiria (PS4) Review - Push Square

Push Square: "Tales of Zestiria is an admirable addition to the legacy of the franchise, boasting a brilliant battle system and a very endearing cast of characters. While it does falter with a few of its fresh ideas, such as its somewhat sparse open areas and its overly complex skill management, it's not enough to detract too heavily from what is otherwise a grand adventure in an intriguing fantasy world. Get through the typically humdrum opening hours and you'll find an addictive RPG with a tale well worth telling."

Great review. Gonna buy this for sure

kaizokuspy3482d ago

Unless they rewrote this story I'll pass. Not into that "boys love" in jrpg. It's a shame though, from the Japanese reviews of those who completed the game suggest this is a good tales game, but still a weaker entry to the series vs other tales games like symphonia...etc... hope you enjoy it man and let me know if it's worth the $60

I'm one of the disagreers.

kaizokuspy3482d ago (Edited 3482d ago )

@blackblades. Thanks for the info. I was being sincere about someone else enjoying the game, explained my standoffishness of purchase due to how many Japanese gamers reacted to the game, they complained about significantly less artes than other tales games, the fact you can 100% in 50 hrs unlike other tales games, theres a persistent glitch with the battle camera that happens occasionally that ruins the battles it happens in. The game pander more to fujoshi, which I am not into, thus kind of eh, from plot point to plot point the story gets its self stuck and will introduce the most random plot device out of nowhere that isn't cohesive to the story at all. Anyways, like I said before. I don't think I'd enjoy this day 1. Not worth the risk. Though it will be a good game, it will not be a good "tales" game in the series.

So why did you disagree?

"...vs other tales games like symphonia"

If we keep comparing every Tales game with Symphonia, a game most people game when they were younger and more impressionable, nothing will ever really meet those standards. Nostalgia is strong.

Eiyuuou3482d ago

I got it today! The dialogues are a bit... I dunno, iffy at the start. There's something alward about them, but thankfully that's no longer the problem after an hour or two.

The Tales Of series are some of the best RPGs I've ever played, and the characters are a big reason for that. I don't think I played a single game in the series that I didn't enjoy. Rest in peace.

Snookies12406d ago (Edited 406d ago )

Damn, that sucks to hear... His designs were always wonderful.

H9406d ago

RIP, sheade some great designs, man it's one after the other this year

FinalFantasyFanatic405d ago

We're 3 months into the year and I feel like we're taking nothing but L's.

autobotdan406d ago

Wow she was the character designer for Tales of Destiny one of my favorites of all time =(

scorpio_2049406d ago

I love the Tales games. Phantasia will always be my favorite. Ironically I felt like as the series progressed the character design became too “anime cliche.”

Dragon's Dogma and XCOM 2 are the best deals. The rest of the games are still overpriced. I would say 8.99 is good for AC: Origins, but you need to put $10 more into MTs to avoid the grind that slows down the story. So, the game is actually 18.99.

It's not on this list, but Pathfinder: Kingmaker is only $9.99. This is a deal if you have a current gen. consoles, as it runs poorly on prev. gen.

hangdang1055d ago

I beat AC origins without grinding or spending any money on MTX?

anast1054d ago

I had to grind for side missions. So, did many other people.

Has anyone been able to login in to the ps store on ps5 I haven't been able to in days and my network is good.

RedDevils1054d ago

Reset or shutdown your PS5. I always can go login to PS5, in fact just a moment ago.

HeliosHex1054d ago

Ok thanks I'll try that

HeliosHex1054d ago

Hey thanks again. Although the shutdown/reset didn't work i found that resetting the mdm and hub did the trick. I use a Lan network instead of wifi. In case anyone has a similar setup and problem.

RedDevils1053d ago

I forgot to mention about the router reset, that usually do the trick when it come to network problems happen with iphone/android. btw np

It’s really it’s own story , but like anything takes some inspirations from other sources, fantastic game so far, you absolutely don’t need to have played other tales games at all to enjoy this to its fullest.
