Final Fantasy vs Metal Gear Solid - Who wins?

Aside from FFXII. The two are still amazing franchises for me.

But there is no comparison between the two at all. One is a stealth shooter and the other is an RPG game.

Sorry, i meant FFXIII. FFXII is actually my favorite FF game. I still think Balthier and Fran are the best duo in the whole series.

They're hardly comparable, besides a focus on story above all other attributes. One has a sprawling, cohesive narrative with persistent lore, while the other re-imagines itself with every numbered entry. So again, not really comparable. Both are great though (most of the time).

I always thought a fun mash-up would be Resident Evil x MGS. Never gonna happen now, though.

FF after FFX become garbage & continue to be garbage to this day so for almost 15 years now, MGS never had a bad moment because Kojima was behind every single new instalment to the series unlike FF... so yeah here yous answer MGS wins hands down because it never stoped to be amazing & one of the TOP games of every console generation, the first MGS is one of the TOP 5 games in PS1, MGS3 is one of the best games in PS2 & imo one of best games of all time, MGS4 is one of the TOP 5 exclusives on PS3 & finally MGS5 seems to be a MASTERPIECE based on review scores I see everywhere, so in short we have a series that kept the quality sky high for 4 console generations vs a series that was good for 1 & a half & then turn to trash, who do you think is the winner? ~__~

There are a huge number of FF fans who think X was garbage too, and a few like me who think XII was great. But perhaps your opinion DOES equate to fact. Do you think so?

I also feel as though MGS 2 is kind of superfluous. In the grand scheme of things, what happened in that game didn't matter. It introduced Raiden and Vamp, and the Patriots are introduced (though not truly elaborated upon), but all of those ideas could have been better introduced some other way, in either 3 or 4. 2 was kind of a throwaway entry in the series, and the only one I wouldn't bother replaying.

So it could be argued that both series have less than stellar entries to their name.

Yawn , like said above there are plenty people that dislike X , and previous titles in the serie , so your whole "it's garbage after X" doesnt really work .

I personally can't stand anything from FVIII besides the music and one or two cutscenes that i grudginly admit were cool and well done . And i only enjoy the combat mechanics in FFX .

As a matter of fact each final fantasy game has been divisive once it got its biggest mainstream breakout hit , FF7 . There are still those that vasly prefer the 16 bits era FF , those that love IX , XII ... and both numbered mmos XI and XIV are massive hits .

The most polarizing and disliked title so far is FFXIII and its serie , and yet it's still very successful and defended tooth and nails by its fans .

I don't think there is such a thing yet as a single bad Final Fantasy main game even with the misses ... the rest is based on trends and preferences .

FFXII is trash maybe not so much like XIII but it still is if we compare it with previous entries & if you wonder why I say that there is so many reasons really here some of them first of all the battle system is the worst I have ever see on any JRPG I have play (& I have play a lot!) the game play literally by itself after we set our gambits I never did a thing in the last boss I just watch my pt kill the boss & then I facepalm... This game is garbage & the terrible battle system is not the only reason, the story was crap, the characters forgetable & there was no MC really for me it looks like the princess was the real MC, the soundtrack didnt have even 1 track that stuck to your head, the game was so bad that I never play it a 2nd time all those years I have it, if there was 1 good thing about it that was exploration, thats it nothing else, as for what you said about FFVIII dont go & compare VIII with XII dont! it might not be my favorite or even 2nd most favorite FF but its by far a much better game than XII.

Yet i'll always prefer FFXII and most FF to VIII , nothing to be done about that , it's a pointless debate .

In terms of consistency Metal Gear Hands down. FF has been on a downward trend lately.
