Arkane Studios' Dishonored is one of those cult-classic games that we have fond memories of. Except it wasn't a cult classic - the game did fairly well for itself and actually released recently (about three years ago in 2012).
Also added this month: The Evil Within, Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom, Paradise Killer, Dishonored: Definitive Edition.
Riders republic. Nice. I never bought it but played beta twice. Good fun openworld game.
I kept getting caught up in other games so I never got around to buying Doom Eternal. If it's good I'll still buy it so i can keep it. The reboot was awesome, i think i played through it about 5 times, and platinumed it.
A whole lotta Bethesda titles in this lineup
Sackboy also got included as well despite already being as Essential title
Spiderman is in the titles leaving Extra in May. Guess 1st party titles aren't guaranteed to stay
Great Month, own most of them but looking fwd to trying monstor boy, nice sto have EW in my collection now and some wolfeinstein.
Starting today, Dishonored Definitive Edition and Eximius: Seize the Frontline are free at Epic Games Store. The free game offers run until January 5 at 11 AM Eastern. Once you claim them, they're yours to keep.
From Xbox Wire: "Hot on the heels of officially welcoming Bethesda’s world-renowned studios to the Xbox family, we’re excited to announce that five of the biggest titles from their vast catalog of games – Dishonored: Definitive Edition, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition, Fallout 4, Fallout 76, and Prey – will all be updated today to enable FPS Boost on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. And it’s not just owners of these titles that get to take advantage of FPS Boost; all these titles are available with FPS Boost for Xbox Game Pass members too.
As a reminder, FPS Boost employs a variety of new methods for nearly doubling the original framerate on select titles. Higher, steadier framerates make games visually smoother, resulting in more immersive gameplay. We partnered closely with developers to enhance the experience while maintaining the game’s original intent. And while not applicable to all games, these new techniques can push game engines to render more quickly for a buttery smooth experience beyond what the original game might have delivered due to the capabilities of the hardware at the time. For the five titles we’ve shared today, gamers can expect to see an increase from 30 fps to nearly 60 fps while enabling FPS Boost."
I wonder if they are going to give this boost to PS5 titles. PS5 is clearly capable. I just am wondering if they put these titles in legacy support or are they going to try and keep them moving forward like they are doing on XSX.
As a first time Xbox owner with my Series S I'll be giving these games a go. I've always gamed on PlayStation and I've never really got in to the first person genre, or open world western rpgs. Horizon was the first open world Western RPG that I played really, so I'm looking to expand my horizons this gen.
Dishonored: Definitive Edition
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition
Fallout 4
Fallout 76
Prey
Calling Fallout 76 a "legendary Bethesda title" is a sick joke, but clowning F76 aside, as a generally PlayStation gamer I really wish Sony would find a way to get access to these updates.
Ever since PS5/Series X started getting all these 60fps updates, it's pretty rough going back to 30fps.
Series X is getting a ton of updates on games I haven't played, or at least not played through. I have only played Skyrim for maybe 3 hours total. I own it for PS4 VR, Switch and Xbox. I guess I will try getting him into it again. I didn't like the PS4 VR version. It was too grainy looking I was super excited to play that version too.
Wow what a shoddy port.
Nothing special game play wise tbh.
Meh...hoping for BC on XB1. These remakes, if it doesn't add value or multiple games in a package, it is worthless to most gamers.
At first I was a bit let-down at how unimpressive the visuals were when I started it up, it seems more like a BC game than a remaster (I was expecting a Tomb Raider type remaster, where it has a decent graphical boost). But of course once I started playing the graphics went out the window and I realized again how fun the game is and am currently enjoying the hell out of it. I look forward to playing again each and every day after work.
Sure it would have been awesome to have the game look real nice and polished, but it's a VERY good game regardless of graphical prowess. Story line, controls, abilities, character interactions, etc etc, it draws you in and doesn't let go.
Also it includes all the DLC too, something I never played with the original, so I have some new content to enjoy and look forward to after I am done.
I say this is a lazy "remaster"
I have never played Dishonored so its not like I feel mad or overly disapointed by the lack of difference but I still feel like they should have done a better job at refining the visuals.
One could make an argument that its only a "Definitive Edition", as in the original game with very slight alternations + all the content but at the back of the box it says "remastered graphics"...
So theres two ways of looking at it. Compared to original console releases, it probably is a remaster worthy, but considering they very much likely ported the PC version (less of a job), its not even a slight upgrade. So from console POV, its a remaster. From the original work (PC version) POV, its only a port and cannot be even called a remaster.
My biggest gripes with the graphics:
1) 30 FPS for a game that is not visualy demanding, 60 FPS shouldnt have been that big of a challenge.
2) Has barely ANY AA (probably none). Its not riddled with jaggies but thats probably due to the art style (= aliasing is not too apparent). I would have expected 2X MSAA at minimum considering the game is capped at 30 FPS...
3) The texture quality is bad and they didnt even seem to bother with anisotropic filtering (AF). The textures were never meant to be eye popping due to art style but many of them are too compressed. Lack of AF means that the little detail textures have will completely disappear at distance and when watched in an angle.
I still enjoy the game as it is pretty great, but man what a missed opportunity with the "remastered" graphics...
Especially since Metro Redux was the last remaster I played and A4/Deep Silver did some pretty damn good things with the current gen versions.
Eh... I may get this... Or I may just get the PS3 version for a much cheaper price
