Sorry everyone, but we're ready to get excited about The Last Guardian again

Dealspwn: For many, The Last Guardian was the reason they bought a PS3, so it's small wonder that Team ICO's long-delayed adventure has become the definition of vaporware. Undergoing development purgatory rather than development hell, Ueda was forced to freelance on its own game even as Sony continued to reassure us that The Last Guardian is still in development.

But cometh the hour cometh the game. E3 2015 is nearly upon us, and to be perfectly honest, Sony could really use it right about now.

It's sad that I've almost stopped caring about this thanks to the lack of news. But yeah, who am I kidding? It would be ace to see this make a comeback at E3 for Xmas. Sure, it's never going to be a mega seller, but still an important title for the PS4.

On one hand I'm really excited for this game. On the other hand I'm terrified that if it DOES see the light of day, it might end up looking nothing like that initial trailer considering how long its been in development.

I don't know why this game is being hyped so much... I played Ico and Shadow of the colossus and while both were decent games, they were not excellent to me. I liked SoC better but it was boring at times when you were not taking down a colossus and for an open world game lacked a lot of depth even for it's time. Maybe it's just me :/

Team Ico is behind this. The team the made Ico and Shadow of the Collosus. That's why everyone is so excited for this game.

Sony Santa Monica sent help in 2012 to finish this game. Shu yushida confirmed that.

Now Marc cerny and his team are most likely just putting the finishing touches on the Game. He and team ice are tech guys who understand ps4 inside out

Don't compare this to duke nukem forever. That was piece of crap. Sony has sent in some of its most talented guys to help finish this game and also sent I'm a lot of their tech guys to help run this game on ps4

It's been clear that Sony doesn't want to talk about TLG except to deny rumors that it's been cancelled. That's why we haven't heard anything. I'm sure whenever they are ready to talk and rereveal it , they will tell us a lot.

You're right. It DOES feel like the hype is being built up almost just so people can come back and complain when the game isn't shown or even talked about.

Personally, I seriously hope it gets revealed. That would make my day. But if it doesn't, I won't get all depressed or start blaming anybody.

I stopped waiting for this game a long time ago. I figured it was either cancelled(despite what Sony may say), or it would come when it comes and then I could get back into it when it finally became official.

I've taken the same stance on FFXV. Despite it now being official, it seems like it may still be in development hell. I couldn't even get excited about playing the demo, and have yet to crack open my FF Type-0 because I just don't care until a release date is announced.

That and the story behind what happened behind closed doors leading to all the hush, the main Dev of Team ICO quitting, Sony needing to send other devs to help. I'd love to hear the story of the games development hell. Big chance it won't look remotely close to what we saw. Like how Shadow of the colossus was demoed as a multiplayer game but was way different.

TBH I'm not really sure why anyone is excited at this point given that there was near zero reason to care in the first place. We've seen next to nothing, have no idea how the game plays in the slightest and on top of that it's been years, meaning the game might not resemble the original concept to begin with.

If you are excited for this game you are basically banking your hype on a giant "?".

Team Ico is well known for making beautiful, incredibly engaging games. There's minimal dialogue, but still tell great stories. The number of characters is always small, but they're effective at generating emotions.

So it's not like we're basing our excitement on nothing at all.

That would make sense to me if we'd actually seen anything of this game. Even FFXV had the occassional trailer or render. With TLG we've literally had pretty much nothing to sustain momentum.

And with only two games under their belt I just don't see how this studio is able to sustain hype on the back... nothing. The calibre isn't there nor the information.

The caliber is most certainly there, even if there've only been two games. Quality isn't determined by how many games you've made. Both their previous entries are regularly referred to as masterpieces, and generally considered to be among the best games of their generation, if not among the best ever.

We HAVE seen something of the game, though it's been a while. If that's not enough for you, that's one thing, but don't act like your definition of "enough" should be the one everybody else follows.

As it currently stands, Team ICO has only made masterpieces. It might be going a bit overboard to expect that of their third game, but to be excited because they've yet to disappoint seems pretty reasonable to me.

Whereas I see what your saying about quality/quantity there's a point the quantity is so low that the argument stops holding water. Two games is too few to garner a fan following of the kind Team Ico has. Team Ico's most notable trait at this point is NOT making games.

In this world of indie feel-em-ups Team Ico looks been-there done-that. They don't have the Rockstar factor anymore (and funnily enough Rockstar's The Agent is another game that draws parallels to TLG - yet has no weird following behind it).

Which game are we talking about here? Because for all you know that game you saw doesn't even exist anymore. What we saw was a reveal years ago. And pretty much nothing (or nothing informative) since.

The dev being good point is irrelevant in any case because who cares if they are good if there's no game that talent is going into? And from the public's perspective Team Ico has been working on precisly nothing for years now.

They've not showed so much as a single screen giving people zilch to be excited about, and the original footage is so vague and ancient that it might as well be an abstraction of what the game is (and in reality, that is probably what it is after numerous changes in development).

TLG as it was is never coming out. But another game bearing the same name will. When we actually see something of that, and something substantial THEN it will make sense to be excited about it.

As it stands they've only made two decent games. Which puts them on equal footing with a developer like Rocksteady - only Rocksteady doesn't have super-fans the way Team Ico does.

Teams that haven't made a single game often get praise for how great their games will be when they release. Things like the new Gears of War for instance. Black Tusk has yet to release a single game, with their prior projects having been cancelled by MS. Yet people believe that GeOW will be a great game.

This is mostly due to the pedigree that exists within the studio. The founders of the company have a solid track record, so the chance that they make a great game is high. Deeper than that, the producers/publishers of the game will probably want the games to be of high quality. This means that they will demand that such a thing take place. Both games have a lot riding on them due to the expectation that's been placed on them either from the series itself(GeOW), or because of past games that have released from the studio(TLG).

It may not turn out to be the case for either TLG or GeOW, but putting faith in something based on what's already been delivered by the developers themselves is not out of the ordinary, or even a misplaced view.

It's fine to be skeptical, but given the quality of both Ico and SoTC, why would people be too worried about it, and not be hyped up for the next release from the same studio, which seems like it will follow the trend of an emotional moving adventure game with solid game play mechanics.

Say what you want about Final Fantasy Versus XIII (now XV), at least they had SOMETHING to show for it over the years. Over 5 years later and not even a screenshot for The Last Guardian.
