It should be surprising, some details would be nice.

There are numerous indie developers who frequent Neogaf who pretty much say the exact opposite. Sony has been great and it's why they all want to work with them. Microsoft not so much.

Read this thread for a better idea, here is a bunch of them talking about their expierences with both. Not filtered through Gamingbolt for clicks.

http://m.neogaf.com/showthr...

lelo2play3711d ago (Edited 3711d ago )

Feel bad about those developers, but... neogaf? Seriously? That forum is a infested cesspool.

EDIT:
@BabyTownFrolics, Transistor
Take a look at some of the comments from the link above and tell me if that is downright classy and calm.

BabyTownFrolics3711d ago

Neogaf looks downright classy and calm as opposed to n4g. It's the stupid bubble policy, also I miss have two zones.

Transistor3711d ago (Edited 3711d ago )

They say they same about N4G.

The reality is there are terrible people on every site regardless of which console they like better.

I will say this though, Neogaf is much more educated about the workings of the industry then most people here. Developers, people who work for NPD and all companies employees frequent there. Here not so much. Understandable though, here you give people real info and they reply with numbers from VGchartz. Lol.

DragonKnight3711d ago

Sony's parity policies are already known and likely the same for indies as they are for established studios. If you have to have your game release on multiple platforms and Playstation isn't the first, then Sony demands extra features be added to compensate the users having to wait for the game. I thought this was common knowledge.

AstroCyborg3711d ago

of course they'd say that on neogaf if you say anything bad about sony your gone

bleedsoe9mm3711d ago (Edited 3711d ago )

@AstroCyborg well said bub
@DragonKnight thats why super time force got the yoshida character , they thought it was funny .

thats because neogaf only welcomes people who say good things about sony or bad things about ms , either will do but preferably both .

SilentNegotiator3711d ago (Edited 3711d ago )

"has policies" =/= "same as Microsoft's policies"

XisThatKid3711d ago

Agree or not the way I see it The most popular console probably WOULD have some of the worst people commenting which in this case is PS4 just like back when the most popular consoles get the most shovelware

Bottom line there are 20 people and 3 houses, out of those 20 people 8 of them are serial killers what ever house out of the three can house the most people runs the biggest chance and likelyhood of having the most killers in their midst.
This is just my theory and since their are more than 20 mill PS4s out their so many players so we have the Sh*t that goes with it. Aside the fact that ALL sides have horrible people hiding behind the anonymity of the internet with no real consequences and sheer ignorance no website is safe that has a comment section period. But we all know all of this.

WCxAlchemist3710d ago (Edited 3710d ago )

NEOGAF!! You SERIOUS!!! NEOGAF Seriously!! NEOGAF LMAO

Edit: NEOGAF!? Are you seriously pulling qoutes from Neogaf!?!?

Edit X2: Are we talkin bout the same NEOGAF?!?

MazzingerZ3710d ago (Edited 3710d ago )

I guess it's a matter of gamers noticing those...with No Man's Sky releasing soon, probably the biggest INDIE title in the coming years, it's hard to care about this article

fr0sty3710d ago

Forcing devs to add content to a timed exclusive on another platform is a far cry from requiring devs to release on both platforms at once.

Christopher3710d ago

***Sony's parity policies are already known and likely the same for indies as they are for established studios. If you have to have your game release on multiple platforms and Playstation isn't the first, then Sony demands extra features ***

I've never heard them "demand" it. Only ask. Any proof that they "demand" it?

mikeboccher3710d ago

why would you believe ANYTHING that is said on Neogaf when it is so cleary a biased site towards PS? I mean really

Docknoss3710d ago

@babytownfrolics very well said. I miss the segregation and hate the bubble system. Honestly is a very flawed system. Where even if you say something that's well said and Intelligent. Console Biased N4Gers can take your bubbles away and especially when this site has more readers that of a particular console. The System is Broke, fight the power!

are you surprised sony has a parity policy? then youre a .... well... pick an insult

or maybe youre surprised by the obvious... ms works with developers and no policy is set in stone.. we already have proof of it in multiple titles that break the so-called parity clause..

MasterCornholio3711d ago

What parity policy?

This is the first time that I'm hearing that Sony has a policy like Microsoft does

SoapShoes3711d ago

It probably just means it has to have the same quality on PS4 as any other platform. Doubt it's like MS where games have to release simultaneously on their platform as everyone else's.

JorboTron3710d ago

MS DOES NOT require games to be released at the same time ie Guacamelee. MS handles them on a case by case basis if they do not have a simultaneous release. MS would prefer to have them add exclusive content like Shovel Night is doing (battletoads) to make it special. Their policies are nearly the same as Sony. People just love to hate on MS and rightfully so they have done some really dumb stuff recently. but in th past so has SONY, SEGA, NINTENDO...

lelo2play3711d ago

Last gen Sony had a policy that if a game was released later on the PS3, it had to have extra content. Don't know if that is still used with the PS4.

MasterCornholio3711d ago

I'm guessing it's that policy. And if you look at games that came late to the PS4 you can see it in effect. Like how in Shovel Knight Kratos is a boss or how in Super Time Squad you can play as Shuhei for example.

LOL_WUT3711d ago

I'd prefer Sony's policy over Microsoft tbh rather have the game release late with more content than not at all ;)

maniacmayhem3711d ago

Sony has had similar policies it's just that a last gen a Sony exec took it upon himself to call out MS and the media and the internet ran with it.

MasterCornholio3711d ago

I honestly dont see requiring extra content for a game that comes late to be the same thing as completely blocking the game from releasing on the system.

But that's just my opinion.

P.S I know there's a way around Microsoft's parity clause through a loophole.

marlinfan103711d ago (Edited 3711d ago )

@master

That's the same as the xbox policy. The head of the program came out and confirmed it if I'm not mistaken (that a game could release later on xbox, it just needs additional content). Yet it's a huge problem on here when MS does it.

If the dev doesn't add content, then it's essentially blocked from playstation, same goes for xbox.

rainslacker3710d ago

MS's loophole is pretty much what what Sony's policy is as well isn't it? Add content, and it can release on the system.

I really don't know if these policies are set in stone so steadfast that the console maker wouldn't just allow a game on another system if the developer asked. To me, there is ultimately no harm for a game releasing later on another system. It may be harmful if a game releases first on another system though...which is why these policies exist in the first place.

freshslicepizza3711d ago (Edited 3711d ago )

on the ps3 sony had a policy that required games to have some form of additional content that was exclusive if the game was already released on the xbox 360. not sure if they do on the ps4 but what would be nice is this developer giving details as to what they are for indie games. we all well aware about microsoft's policies so why wouldn't sony's also be known?

the thing is these companies know most sales are front loaded and if a game comes out later it risks selling a lot less copies. that is why they want at least simultaneous releases or new content exclusive to gain more interest.

mhunterjr3711d ago

But Microsoft doesn't block them entirely, they just require extra content... And in some cases allow the game to be released without extra content.

Yetter3711d ago

Seems like this policy has been in place for quite some time. Doesn't seem to apply to PC ports like The Swapper but if that game has been on another console than it does require additional content. Seems to me its almost identical to MS parity clause, the difference being one particular dev through MS under the bus and used it as their sole excuse for not releasing their game on xbox.

+ Show (3) more repliesLast reply 3710d ago
Activemessiah3711d ago

Yet you dont hear about them... meaning it's not so bad... at least not as bad as MS.

Naga3711d ago (Edited 3711d ago )

Just because you don't hear about something as much doesn't mean it's not as bad; that's an error in logic.

TFJWM3711d ago

While that is true I think he means we have yet to hear any developers complain about Sony's policies. Even this one just says they have something in place not that it is an issue

GTgamer3711d ago

If the devs don't complain then how bad can it be :.

BG115793711d ago

Yeah, we ear more praises than complaints.
I would like to read more about Sony's parity rules, because no example is given the article.

AstroCyborg3711d ago

the only reasons its not bad is because its sony

Why o why3711d ago

Change your record already. . . . . .

Gosh. . Seems some people want parity on everything, good and bad. Fact is these company's are not the same apart from the fact they want our money. We've heard about certain policies from last gen. I'll consider this plausible if there were more cases with specifics. This isn't being clear enough for anybody to compare the 2 company's policies imo. . . The quest for parity continues. . Lol

RIP_Cell3711d ago

you don't hear about them because they are all under NDAs

rainslacker3710d ago

We have heard about them though. It came to light at about the same time as MS parity policy last gen.

So if you didn't hear about them, you either weren't paying attention, nor was this an actual problem for you until it could be a possible shot fired for petty console war preferences.

Silly gameAr3711d ago

Spin what? There are no details about these certain parity policies, yet you have people like you in the comments saying, "yeah Sony too". Then again you don't have to add any details in an article on N4G for people to believe it.

RpgSama3711d ago (Edited 3711d ago )

If he doesn't explicitely say what are these "Certain Parity Policies", it could be anything from anti developers policies (doubt it), to obvious things like having matching prices for the software published at the time of launch in all consoles.

MrDead3711d ago

It doesn’t matter that the dev didn't elaborate on Sony Parity Policies, but lucky for Gamingbolt he said they have some so you can put it in the title and watch the hits come in.

darthv722994d ago

Seems scorpio has that potential as well. MS putting it to use is an unknown.

4k and HDR makes things look stunning no matter what. Horizon on a pro is a nice example.

TheKingKratos2994d ago (Edited 2994d ago )

Or how about we talk about this gen ps4 and ps4 games instead of talking ps5 when we aren't even halfway this sad excuse of gen
it was already such a slow start for this gen that it took late 2016 for it to start going on the right path.

I bought ps4 to enjoy games not to hear about niche midgen upgrades that no one asked for them other than ppl with money to burn or hear about next gen systems.
I don't care who agree or disagree with me on this but this is getting so lame now

boomtube19872994d ago (Edited 2994d ago )

Assuming 2020/21 Next Console gen must have minimum spec of 20 Teraflops GPU power on 7nm die. 16gb to 32gb HBM memory. 2tb minimum HDD or 1TB SSD. So thats 10x the performance of original Xbone.

Im sure next gen will see better hardware battle. As spencer will go all out with next box to challenge Sony. Ex Xbox head Don mattrick was not fan of gaming. He wanted to sell all in one tv Bull$hit to gamers which resulted in weak hardware. Phil wont make that same mistake. I expect Sony and MS to give us a near high end stuff as possible for a console. Who knows, we may even see Nintendo games appear on PS5 & NextBox as i dont expect Nintendo to survive as a home console maker.

MrSec842994d ago

PS4 and XB1 taking 7-8 years to release, after the previous generation was an anomaly, most likely PS5 will come 6 years after PS4 released, 7 at a stretch.
Judging by the fact PS3 was packing 250GFlops of performance and the jump to PS4's 1,840 represents a 7.36X increase in raw flops PS5 should have at least 13.54TFlops, AMD Navi GPUs should easily be able to achieve that with way more efficiency than current architecture allows.

32GBs isn't going to be a big enough jump in memory pool size, a generation usually requires a 16X increase, but considering Sony were initially going for 4GBs in PS4 around 64GB should be the minimum to expect.

FYI the base XB1 was a 1.31TFlop machine, so 13TFlops would be 10X XB1, 360 hit about 200GFlops, so XB1 had a 6.55X increase in raw flops, 8.58TFlops would be a true GPU generational bump for Microsoft based on the increase from 360 to XB1, I think with Scorpio getting part of the way there Microsoft may push things a bit harder to remain competitive with Sony, but given they've made their mid-gen iteration of a system 4 years after releasing XB1 then we may not see the next Xbox until 2021.
If MS waits until 2021 I think you'll see a 50% increase over PS5, 64GBs of Memory may still be the minimum to expect.

HBM or GDDR6 will be what both companies use IMO, Sony will need about a 7X increase in bandwidth, so about 1.2TB/s for PS5, XB2 (or whatever MS calls it) should have about 1.8TB/s if they're releasing in 2021 and they wait to not release too soon after delivering Scorpio.
It's possible MS could release around the same time as Sony and just chuck a similar level of GPU to PS5, it would still provide a 2.26X increase in raw flops over Scorpio, around 10X base XB1, plus with the shift to improved architecture devs will be able to way more with that increase in floating point math.

CPUs should also see a major boost, the RAM increase and increase in data transfer speeds from Hard Drives and Disc Drives will make for way more capable systems overall.

Nintendo have been around longer than anyone, they'll still be here for decades, likely refreshing Switch and making it into a varied platform for their own games, indies and casual 3rd party releases.

Maddens Raiders2994d ago

The wishful thinker inside of me says:

Just bring me another TLOU, Heavenly Sword, Resistance, Motorstorm (not gonna happen), and Killzone 5. Huh, what's that...? You say none of these are coming back? Well then I'll just take Battlefield 5 (modern war) on PS5 and GTA VI. Yeah, that oughtta do it!

Am-No-Hero2994d ago

of course and it's obvious that ps5 or next gen console will be more realistic as the tech evolves , nothing new here

Bigpappy2994d ago

I could swear I saw this exact topic posted here lasts month. Are we now going to ask hypothetical questions to all random developers about a console that doesn't even exist or had mention from the prospective manufacturer?

Automatic792994d ago

@Bigpappy

I find articles like this one odd that they talking about PS5 now when PS Pro just came out a few months ago. To me, it seems like you telling PS fans who bought the Pro, f--k you for purchasing, you should have waited on PS5. How about some articles on what PS Pro can do or is it that most people realize the Pro was a waste of a mid gen system.

Am-No-Hero2994d ago (Edited 2994d ago )

" Ps5 will be a huge step : says developer "

" Xbox 2 should present a new whole different level of graphics: says developer "

Well folks , if you see any of these articles just take a deep breath and leave

rainslacker2994d ago

@Automatic

No, this is like Gamingbolt taking comments, or asking loaded questions, to get a qoute which they can make into click bait.

Sony isn't really talking about PS5 now. Sony is supporting the PS4P as well as anyone should expect considering the circumstances of releasing a next gen console without being able to actually make it a next gen console.

Articles about what PS4P can do come out quite frequently. They tend to be comparison articles, or articles about games which say what the Pro version of games has to offer over the regular PS4.

Obscure_Observer2994d ago (Edited 2994d ago )

@rainslacker

Damage control at finest you done there. Sony support for the PS4Pro is nothing sort of commendable. No surprise why people already started to talk about the PS5, even thought PS fans keep saying power don't matter.

The marketing is nearly non existent, the quality control and reliability is lackluster at best!

Some games run the same as the base PS4, some games run WORST, and in some extreme cases doesn't run at all. That's unacceptable!

You got thank god competition exist. Hopefully MS will show Sony how a proper mid gen console is done, so Sony will actually put some effort and try and make the PS4Pro better.

Phill-Spencer2994d ago

Real artificial intelligence in videogames would also be a huge step.

frostypants2994d ago (Edited 2994d ago )

Real AI barely exists in general. Most so-called advanced AI stuff, like IBM Watson, is glorified word indexing, and not proper AI at all. The AI world is in a bit of a funk right now, partially due to BS like that.

TheCommentator2994d ago

Siri and Cortana are good examples of contemporary AI and voice recognition programs and they do reasonably well. Couple that programming with physics-based lighting and geometry and there's nothing devs couldn't realize. Probably not going to happen until 2030 though.

Armyntt2994d ago (Edited 2994d ago )

The more realistic games look the more realistic they won't look. When I played NBA/NFL games in the early 90s I just had fun and the graphics were the best they could. Now as more and more games get closer to photo quality the more we nitpick about the games. Oh he doesn't run like that, his eyes look empty, etc. We are still a few generations away from this articles implication.

They won't. Possibly ever. It's a pipe dream. Even if they get the image resolution to high enough that you won't be able to tell the difference between the image and reality (which they will eventually) the act of trying to render something at a high enough quality to manage the same would be prohibitively time consuming and expensive, not to mention the various other technical problems.

Lack Of Exclusives May Not Necessarily Hurt Xbox Scorpio, Says Mothergunship Developer

The Xbox One Scorpio will be an incredibly powerful console- but ultimately, it is still a part of the existing Xbox One ecosystem, and it will be tied inextricably to the base Xbox One console. This is reflected in everything about the Scorpio's design, and in the fact that it will have no exclusives- all of its games must run on the base Xbox One, too?

well when the commentary around here revolves mainly around exclusives it makes you wonder what kind of gamer they are and who they represent. sure exclusives matter but if that is all they want the discussions to revolve around then there is a brand warrior agenda taking place. ps4 gamers bought fallout 4 over 7.5 million times yet they want to talk like only exclusives matter, especially now that the power advantage is about to be gone. when your library is mostly made up of multiplat titles then surely that also needs to be considered even more so than the exclusives. after all representation needs to actually be comparable, not a bunch of console warriors only wanting to talk about exclusives.

Because we know no one previously used to try the same thing when it benefited them.

C'mon, let's just admit how hypocritical people have been all around.

Kingthrash3602996d ago

I can't speak for all but the reason power mattered 4 years ago was because the ps4 costed less, and yet more powerful. ..costed LESS was the key to the argument. I'm sure if the xbo costed less it wouldn't have been a big deal...where here we have the scorpio costing more...so u would expect it to be more powerful.
PC costs more....more power
Switch costs less...less power
Xbox one was over priced. That was the difference. So yeah the goal posts do go both ways...let just not act like we are on the same track as 4 years ago.

starchild2996d ago

Xbox One would certainly do better if Microsoft would invest in some more first party games, but the situation is not nearly as black or white as some of you make it out to be.

Exclusives are one factor people care about, but it's not all they care about. Price, features, hardware performance (i.e. how good most games run and look), controller preference and ecosystem are other factors people care about.

Microsoft doesn't necessarily have to match Sony 100% on the exclusive front in order to be very competitive. In fact, I think if Microsoft did start matching Sony in that area they would likely start outselling them, because they will now have the best multiplatform games and arguably better features like backwards compatibility.

81BX2996d ago

Agreed.... yes of course they could benefit from more exclusives but it's not the end all be all.

Cuzzo632996d ago

That didnt stop a year and a half head start with the 360... PlayStation is a global and more popular console... Even if Microsoft hit tit for tat with exclusives they would still be outshined by Playstation... Really it helps the Xbox brand if anything... Relying on 4 games every generation is not good for the fan base... Sooner or later it gets tiresome. Now the market share is being dominated by the 2nd most popular console... I say second only because Nintendo is more popular but Playstation is more mainstream.... Xbox 360 dominated the market share behind the WiiU but even still ot was da least popular. Reasons why sales wise the ps3 surpassed even with a late start and crappy 3rd party games

2996d ago
starchild2996d ago (Edited 2996d ago )

Well, even last generation Sony had the better exclusive lineup for my tastes. And many others seemed to feel the same way. Despite this, however, the 360 and PS3 basically sold neck and neck over the generation.

The 360 launched a year earlier than the PS3 and that definitely helped, but on the other hand Sony had just dominated the two previous generations so Microsoft was already coming into the new generation at a significant disadvantage.

So, with the PS3 having the stronger brand recognition, the better exclusive lineup, and free online, how did the 360 manage to sell on par with it? I would argue that it was a combination of starting a year earlier and having a lower price for a while, in addition to having the better performing multiplatform games. Those were the main factors.

Interestingly enough, the PS3 and 360 were probably two of the most closely matched consoles we've ever seen in a given generation. The 360 had an edge in multiplatform games, while a few PS3 exclusives were widely considered to be the best looking console games of the time. The advantage overall was with the 360, but it was nothing like the clear advantage PS4 has over XB1 or the advantage Scorpio will have over PS4 Pro.

If the 360 was able to do so well despite having fewer exclusives and only marginally better multiplatform games I don't think it's unreasonable to think that they would easily outsell Sony if they matched them on 1st party output and had a significant advantage on all multiplats.

I think multiplatform graphics and performance do matter more than some of you want to admit. I've known several people for whom it was their most important criteria when choosing a console. They predictably went for the 360 last generation and the PS4 this generation.

Sunny_D2996d ago

You forget the fact that MS went ahead and decided to make a shit ton of exclusive third party deals and made sure to bring games to their consoles as well. Which is funny how Phil had the nerve to criticize Sony this gen for having third part deals now. Ha
