MGS4 on 360: "It's inevitable," says highly-placed source

And so the pointless speculation begins.

truth for gamers6178d ago (Edited 6177d ago )

Well MGS 2 was done for the original xbox so don't be surprised if it happens.

Also MGS4 has only sold 2 million copies on ps3, if they modified and added new content to the game maybe they can sell 2 million more on the 360.

Alexander Roy6178d ago

"Well MGS 2 was done for the original xbox so don't be surprised if it happens."

Gotta love that "argument". Where has MGS3 been, then?
Anyway, I have faith in Kojima's words. Besides, seeing an Apple sponsored game on a MSFT console is something I can't imagine.

NO_PUDding6177d ago

I agree eventually it will come. But I don't see any other Kojima Production games going exclsuive to the 360.

And when it does come, I imagine it will be an awful looking port, and it will be on several discs.

And that will be Konami's job.

omni_atlas6177d ago (Edited 6177d ago )

Wasn't there an article on N4G a while back declaring why MGSIV will NEVER hit another console?

I believe it had to do with the sponsors.

Here you go, FOUND IT: http://kotaku.com/gaming/be...

Its even from Kotaku, lol.

ajeben8096177d ago

i highly doubt mgs4 will be making way to 360. it makes me laugh wen half of you are like yeh i new it wood happen eventually....get the fark outa here. mgs4 will not be on the 360

jtucker786177d ago (Edited 6177d ago )

If Xbox gets it ... great.
It won't, because Sony are filming the MGS movie, but still, even if they get it - big deal.

A good game is a good game. The more people that enjoy it the better.

Leave the fighting over exclusives to Sony and Microsoft.

How about we trade?
MGS4 for Gears 2? :p

FreeMonk6177d ago (Edited 6177d ago )

So because MGS The Movie is being made by Sony Pictures, it means MGS4 won't be released on another console??

The Resident Evil movies are distributed by Sony Pictures, and the last batch of Resident Evil games have been on the Nintendo Wii. RE5 is coming to both PS3 AND X360. So that has nothing do to with it.

To me it doesn't matter if the release MGS4 on the X360 as I own a PS3 and a copy of MGS4 on that, but my guess is that Konami may not have made the big profit they had hoped.

Yes, MGS4 did extremly well in Japan, USA and Europe, but when compared to the Multi-platform sales of Grand Theft Auto 4, in which the X360 sold a considerable more copies than the PS3, it's good business sense to bring some of that revenue back.

These games don't cost thousands to make, they cost Millions, and they need to make the cash back to continue making new games. If they don't make a profit, they can't make new titles.

It's about time Third-Party companies start thinking about the fans and not just the fanboys. Everyone should experience MGS4, it's an amazing game, but unfortunatly at the moment, it's only available to a select few.

Square Enix have had the balls to say, right lets make everyone happy but also make some cash on it. Hopefully for all the X360 owners, Konami have the same idea and gives those 360 owners the chance to play one of the best games of the year!

Unfortunatly, the Sony fanboys will disagree and cry, but it's there opinion.

Oh and for people saying it won't fit on one DVD disc. It probably won't, but if they ship it on 5 discs and you have to swap between acts, it will still be faster to get up and swap the disc over than wait 3 minutes for an install.

kewlkat0076177d ago

It was thought that Final Fantasy was impossible, since we have seen a MG game on the Xbox brand before..

After the impossible happened yesterday, now anything is possible.

Nothing is safe.

morganfell6177d ago

No truth for gamers your figures are completely wrong. MGS4 has sold more on the PS3 to date than Mass Effect sold on the 360. Telling all the lies in the world won't make it come to the 360.

MikeGdaGod6177d ago

there still aren't any games that are coming only on the 360 i want. MS press conference confirmed it.

they want PS3 games, if i have a PS3, i don't need a 360.

sticky doja6177d ago (Edited 6177d ago )

"MGS4 has sold more on the PS3 to date than Mass Effect sold on the 360."

Your right it has sold more, but only 100,000 more accourding to VGcharts which isn't alot considering that:
1) Mass Effect had to challenge the likes of COD4, Halo 3, Rock Band and Guitar Hero 3 that all came out around the same time for sales.
2) Mass Effect is a new IP.
3) Mass Effect is an RPG that doesn't have Final Fantasy in the title
3) MGS4 comes as a bundle pack with the 80gb.

The fact that the number sold is so close really suprises me considering.

Bloodwar6177d ago

Xbox didn't have a larger user base than the PS2. Xbox 360 does have a larger user base than the PS3.

Pika-pie6177d ago

If you had suggested that MGS4 would come to the 360 to me 2 days ago I would call you crazy... Now I wouldnt be surprised one bit.

If sony would allow FFXIII to go then they would just as easily allow MGS4 to go.

JustinSaneV26177d ago

@ajeben809

And how many people said the same thing about FFXII?

DaTruth6177d ago

Does anyone even think it could run on the 360? seriously?

JustinSaneV26177d ago

@DaTruth

I don't see any reason why it couldn't. Please enlighten me with your reasoning if you can.

travelguy2k6177d ago

I mean they ould have announced it if it was coming. Also, if they start now porting it to the 360 it would still take more than a year before <kojima would think it was good enough and by then, who cares?

Organic_Chemistry6177d ago

Why would xbox fans want MGS4? Last and most recently from what I remember reading, MGS4 according to many xbox fans is nothing more than a crap cinematic game! Why would they even want such a "poor quality" game. These xbox idiots are such fvcking hypocrites~!!!!!!!!

JustinSaneV26176d ago

I'm pretty sure that was most of the gaming industry media that said MGS4 was a cinema-fest.

It was more likely that MGS4 was going to 360 than FFXIII cause of the stupidly large amount of rumours and now that the impossible has happened (360 FFXIII) this seems as likely as another Halo game

LaChance6178d ago

sound too fanboyish right now but in one night the PS3 has become almost irrelevant to me.

I was drooling over final fantasy 13 since they came out with the first trailer back in 2006.

I was telling myself I would get a PS3 in 2009 probably to play MGS4 and FF13 (and maybe GOW3 but alot less than MGS4 and FF13)

You might think Im lying but those 2 games were the only 2 games that would "FORCE" me to buy a PS3.The PS3 has other good games but nothing you cant live without.

I mean games like LO , NG2 , Dead Risng are very good games too that PS3 gamers would want to see on the PS3 but Im sure you guys can live without them. The same goes for me concerning 98% of PS3 exclusives.

FF13 going multiplat has just made the PS3 irrelevant to ALOT of 360 owners I think.

matchgrade6178d ago (Edited 6178d ago )

The Final Fantasy series is a bit dead. The series hasn't evolved since FFX. They put out FFXI and FFXII, and nobody really cared. And with the release of MGS4, which takes the cake for best storytelling, graphics, art direction, and production values, of course Square Enix would want to go multiplatform to save sales and profits.

And what better way to start doing that than by taking a big-a$$ bribe from MS.

GotAmmo6178d ago

I really dont care if MGS4 comes out for the 360, to me its an experience every gamer should have. But my biggest gripe is hardware issues with the 360. People buy the 360 cause between the two its cheaper, but what use is the system if its always out of commission.

GTA, Resident Evil, Final Fantasy...there's nothnig they cannot have anymore. Sony has lost this gaming era by losing all its exclusives. The PS3 is officially a waste of money. Sony, you disappointed me.

Fishy Fingers6178d ago

Dont be a drama queen. It's one computer game, you havent even seen what Sony have in their keynote. Maybe a little early to be quite so dramatic.

cp686178d ago

you tell me, what inovation have sony announced since 2006? We have been hearing the same thing over and over again: Killzone2, LittlebigPlanet, and Playstation HOME. And it will be the same tonight.

Fishy Fingers6178d ago

why not get shoot of your PS3 and get an xbox then if you feel cheated. But then that leads me to ask what innovation MS has come up with? Because after they're keynote yesterday I see nothing but Sony/Wii ideas. Avatars (wii), Lips (singstar), In The Movies (eyetoy) etc.

At least hold off until E3 is done before you write anyone off.

ChampIDC6178d ago

I would never say the PS3 is a waste of money, but it is starting to lose a little ground in the software area. Sony is going to have to pull out something big at E3 to make up for it.

matchgrade6178d ago (Edited 6178d ago )

Either it doesn't happen, or most people will own PS3s by the time it does.

And there are way too many PS references and Xbox jokes in the game for it to be ported to 360. It's about as likely to happen as Halo coming to PS3.

Dead in the software area? Sounds more like Microsoft to me. What have they got coming? Gears 2, that's about it.

FFXIII? Please. You parade about that now, but I doubt any shooter-loving 360 owners will actually end up buying it. I doubt many people outside Japan will buy it, for that matter. I'm surrounded everyday by 360 gamers, and I have never heard any of them express a desire to play Final Fantasy.

wolfehound226178d ago

Calm down it's not the end of the world. A lot of you guys are just plan funny on how hard your taking this. I mean if this hurts you that bad you may want to quit gaming now cause it sounds like its becoming to personal, and you may end up like one of these stories where kid kills mother for taking away game system.

I mean seriously all this talk about Square Enix betrayed Sony or Sony just got raped in the @ss by M$ or I've lost all faith in Sony. Honestly I know this is a huge annoncment, but to think that these companies are not in it for the money is just plain dumb. I mean if all these people only bought the PS3 for FF13 and are selling there systems now. First off the game wasn't even close to being released so why do u even have one. And second why only buy a system for one game whats the point that just turns out to be one expensive game.

Yes M$ made a huge annoncment that rocked the game world, but Sony hasn't even had there conference yet. So first off for MS fans to claim victory is a bit premature considering other than the FF13 annoncment all you got was a bunch of similar products that Sony and Nintendo already have. And yes I know all companies copy, but almost all of MS conference was rehashes of stuff the other companies have been doing. And secondly for Sony supporters to start to bow there head in defeat remember nonone seen the FF13 annoncment coming and there are quite a bit of first party exclusives Sony has in store.

So in closing everyone calm down relax and just wait and see what happens. Remember play games to have fun.

cp686178d ago

Business is all about what you have, and what they don't have. We, as console gamers, choose the console most appropriate to us depending on the games it offers. Each console has (well, should have) its own exclusive titles, those that will have a huge impact in the consumer's decision. Sony, with the ps2, succeeded. Sony, with the ps3, has failed. Sony has failed because it doesn't have any games it owns. As of today, 2 consoles are offering the same games. Why bother paying more when you can have more than what the other is offering, (meaning the ps3 is lacking so much in online features)? The 360, as of today, is the right decision. I regret purchasing my PS3 so soon, as i expected too much from sony. i relied on sony's PS2 success, but i failed.

GotAmmo6177d ago

Hmm.... new ips or old ips does it really matter(WE PLAY TO WIN THE GAME). To me MGS4 was the first Metal Gear Ive ever played it blew me away(and the story didnt lose me) Gears...well chainsaw on gun plenty of funny one liners and a decent story had me going. FF13 never played one before so it will probably be a good experience for everyone

NO_PUDding6177d ago

I have never played a Final Fantasy, but you can bet, I WILL play Final Fantasy 13 on the PS3.

I will buy it just to prove to Square Enix that the game is a mover on the PS3. I think a lot of people will be the same, and I certainly do not want to swap discs. And since it has started development on PS3, the game will be ported to 360.

Can't wait for that video comparison.

bruiser816177d ago (Edited 6177d ago )

@3.7, I dont get what you mean when you say "Sony fail because it has no games it owns"

Out of the three companies i would say MS "Owns" the least amount of games because it has the least amount of inhouse game developers, which is odd with them being a software company and all. I think you are taking this a bit far. This move that MS just pull simply evened the playing field, if the game were coming out for the 360 and not ps3 then this would be a tilt. I dont get why you would want to trade in or get rid of a system because the opposing system will be sharing the game, thats really dumb to me. Do you think that 360 gamers will get rid of their system if GEOW goes multi-plat? No! they may b!tch but thats it

As soon as Microsoft Drops tons of cash it might, i'll tell you one thing though Kojima would leave Konami if that did happen. Kojima is a hornorable man and going back on your word isn't honorable.

v1c1ous6178d ago

don't come to me with "honorable" nothing

Testo6177d ago

I enjoy how anytime anyone says anything about a person who is in business not make money, you guys jump all over it.

If more people actually went to work and enjoyed their jobs, maybe we would have better games.

But that can't exist in your world. It's ALWAYS about money.

Kleptic6177d ago

Kojima is the real variable in this...Kojima has publically stated on numerous occasions his feelings (of which are negative) about the 360...

So it is almost inevitable that it would not be Kojima Productions doing the port...and being that the game director was very worried that the Xbox 360, as a platform, would hurt the integrity of his 'final' game...I really could see him pushing for it to not happen...

and the game was an absolute success...it is still selling well...while every game will do better if it is on more platforms; Kojima has always been the type of person more worried about reputation and quality...if he doesn't think the 360 can match the quality of the PS3 version, you bet he will be pushing for it not to happen...

with all that said though...please, the little bits of fun made towards the 360...the iBook...the PS3 and PSP...that would take less than 10 hours to remove from the game...that is not what is stopping Konami/KP, if anything is...Its very likely related to Sony and this movie deal stuff...while Sony would help budget the film in exchange for exclusitivity on the game...or something to that nature...

Sony does not handle exclusives like MS...some hate that...some appreciate it...What I find really hard to understand is exactly what the big deal is...MGS4 is an amazing game, and is so good that there is little reason for others to not get to play it...PS3 owners get to play it right now...if it comes to the 360 eventually...so what?...

My guess though is that MS already tried this years ago...and failed at it...its almost embarrassing to get an exclusive a year later or so (look at MS's respone to Bioshock for the PS3)...MS would much rather have got the game to realese day and date with the PS3 version...that is apperantly what gets people fired up...

funny thing is though...ever since the 360 was announced...the only real thing they have done is pushed like crazy to get some PS3 games...and that they did...but, as a PS3 owner, its almost flattering that they want Sony's content so bad...Somebody sure didn't like getting absolutely wrecked alst generation...

PirateThom6178d ago (Edited 6178d ago )

Seriously, has anyone played MGS4?

The number of references to PlayStation, Sony Products, Apple Products and so on make a port completley unlikely and more or less impossible without cutting massive chunks of content.

Plus, Konami would never go along with Live, considering their MGO stance.

And Kojima is a major PlayStation fan, he was the one who stopped it going to 360 in the first place.

Scarfy6178d ago

Yep.

And why do I have a feeling that port of MGS4 to the Xbox360 would suffer dreadfully in all areas...

mistertwoturbo6178d ago

Of course, only 360-only people are the ones who don't realize that.

But come on... After this whole FFXIII debacle, anything seems possible now.

Fishy Fingers6178d ago (Edited 6178d ago )

Why is that? (correct me if I'm wrong) but FF use's Crystal Tools, an engine designed from day one as a multiplatform engine. This allows SE the "easy" opportunity to post over FF13.

MGS on the other hand was built solely around the PS3 hardware, that means to me it would require a huge amount of work to create a 360 version. Thats all forgetting the points Pirate Thom mentions.

DaTruth6177d ago (Edited 6177d ago )

PlayStation 3 Games That Desperately Need a PS5 Remaster

Even if they could just remaster and put on PSVR2, some would still look great as VR titles and could do a whole lot to bolster the headset w these exclusives! I'd imagine the investment of reworking these titles into VR would be way less than building new games from the ground up, and they could be amazing experiences, and VR often makes flat games feel fresh again. The Resistance and Killzone games are particularly what I want to see!!

Rude-ro462d ago

I played killzone 3 in 3d and it really changed the game per being immersive.
In vr, that would be even more awesome.

darthv72462d ago

Funny you mention that... my son wanted to play some PS3 games in 3d on my PS tv and he was blown away by how good KZ3 was. It really was a great addition to the game. Im surprised there have not been more 3d games from that era being ported to the PSVR/VR2.

Killzone trilogy in VR would be amazing bonus points if they offer shadow fall.

There was a psvr1 Killzone project that supermassive was working on at one stage which wasn't up to scratch and Sony brand it back in house I was hoping we would see that on psvr2 eventually.

Personally I'd love to see some more love or acknowledgement of psvr2 from Sony in general it was a expensive headset and Sony barely acknowledge it's existence

seanpitt23462d ago

The amount of work needed to remaster these games wouldn't be beneficial on a financial and business sense.. MGS4 would probably be the best bet as it would need the least amount of work!

Hideo Kojima laments that Metal Gear Solid 4's digital battlefield 'is no longer science fiction'

Game creator Hideo Kojima is and probably will always be best-known for his creation and stewardship of the Metal Gear series at Konami, which since his departure has been more-or-less on permanent hiatus (don't mention Survive). In his almost three decades these games evolved to the point where they predicted certain problems of the information age (MGS 2), took aim at contemporary topics like Guantanamo Bay (MGS: Ground Zeroes), and ended on a profound sense of sadness about our species' inability to break the cycles of global conflict (MGS V).

It's not clear what sparked this reflection, but Kojima's been thinking about Metal Gear Solid 4, an entry that was (and unfortunately still remains) a PlayStation 3 exclusive. In that entry the player controls an aged Solid Snake in the year 2014, caught up in a civil war being fought between Private Military Companies (PMCs).

Dirty_Lemons772d ago

That was a great fucking game/ movie.

DarXyde772d ago

To this day, it's one of those games where I refuse to skip the cutscenes, no matter how many playthroughs I've done.

But if you ask me...MGS2 was bloody prophetic and has aged like fine wine. That game was blasted as the weakest entry, and yet it's so enduring. I replayed it some time last year and it was remarkable.

sadraiden772d ago

Heed not the lamentations of people that say that MGS2 is bad because of the Snake/Raiden bait and switch. Every MGS game has its own merits, and while most people consider 3 to be the best, they all shine equally in my opinion.

porkChop772d ago

@sad

I would generally agree but with the exception of MGSV. It had truly excellent gameplay/combat, but dull and largely empty open world(s), and a narrative that is literally only half finished.

I really wish Kojima hadn't tried to go open world with MGS. It just wasn't right for the series. But I get it. He didn't want to make MG anymore but he wasn't allowed to make anything else. So he had to experiment within that franchise. Still, it was the wrong direction.

Santouryuu772d ago

I have been thinking about this a lot, MGS2 being the weakest and getting blasted.
My conclusion, for some years now, it's my favorite game of the series.
Going from MGS1 to MGS2 was such a big leap, in graphics, mechanics, etc.
And now it's even more relevant for being 'bloody prophetic' as you stated.

Maybe dust of my vita and play it again...

porkChop772d ago

It's a shame we never got a remaster of MGS4. The original game only rendered at 1024x768, and it ran anywhere from like 20fps to 60fps depending on the area. A remaster could have very easily cleaned up the visuals and performance. It's such a great game. I just want to play it again but in its best possible state.

MIDGETonSTILTS17772d ago

I agree, but they did all sorts of tricks to make use of the ps3’s cell processor….they’d probably have to rebuild the game in order to make it run on another machine. And, if that involves remaking those cutscenes somehow, then itll never happen, unfortunately.

porkChop772d ago

Nah. There have been plenty of remasters of PS3 games and they've turned out fine. It can be done.

cell989772d ago

He was always ahead with this series. MSG1 taught me about the importance of passing on our genes into future generations but in a responsible way, for they are bound to what we experienced in our lifetime. Sons of liberty taught me about global control and simulation runs to test society in a grand scale, the importance and dangers of control of information. MGS3 taught me about patriotism and how that can blind you into doing things you never would have otherwise, all for the sake of politicians who only see you as another pawn in their grand scheme of things. MSG4 taught me war is inevitable and always orchestrated because it's great for the economy. Soon simulation systems will start dictating who goes to war and why, all run through proxies. Privatization of military company are already here. We already started to see how a small group of elites dictates everything that happens. Nothing is done, nothing happens without strings being pulled.

Eidolon772d ago

You learned all this from MGS?

RNTody772d ago

All that was literally the themes and core story of each game, so not surprising he learned that from MGS. Metal Gear Solid 2 in particular is so relevant today, it was more than a decade ahead of its time and a work of genius. Kojima saw what the digital future was going to become when it was in its infancy. Even MGS 5 despite being unfinished and less of a traditional Metal Gear Solid game with regards to story, had a fair bit to say about language and control over it that is relevant today.

It's a highly acclaimed series for a reason, and one of my favourite.

Eidolon772d ago

I've watched my brother play the MGS games, but I only beat MGS1 myself on the PSP in 2014, and MGSV in 2016. I took the themes and plots as lore, tbh.. trying to piece together the story of MGS rather than relating them to our current times.

RNTody772d ago

It's definitely social commentary, Eidolon. You should read the "themes and analysis" section of the Wikipedia page for MGS2: Sons of Liberty for a start! Game was heavy on this.

Eidolon772d ago

I'll take a look, thanks. Actually might pick up MGS2 again (PS Vita), It's been years since I last played. Might start a new game tbh.
