GameSpot Review: Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution

Reviewed by Chris Watters, he writes:

"Ever since its inception in the early 1990s, Sid Meier's critically acclaimed Civilization series has challenged players to "build an empire to stand the test of time." Civilization Revolution is the newest scion of the series, and like its predecessors, it's a turn-based strategy game in which you take charge of a notable historical civilization and lead them from humble beginnings to world domination. Faced with the great challenge of preserving the strategic breadth of the series while streamlining the experience for consoles, developer Firaxis games has succeeded admirably. The result is a distilled version of Civilization that will please series veterans and newcomers alike."

The Good

* Engrossing strategic depth
* Many ways to claim victory
* Fantastic visual presentation
* Wealth of interesting historical knowledge
* Meets high standard of the Civilization series.

The Bad

* Multiplayer moves at a slow pace
* Diplomacy is a bit limited.

If so, could you tell me: If you already have Civilization IV + Warlords + Beyond the Sword for the PC, then is there anything to get out of Revolution or is it just redundant?

ThatCanadianGuy6141d ago

Well i never played played the PC versions,but i really enjoy the game.Alot actually,it's the perfect RTS for console.

Tho im guessing it's been "watered down" quite abit from it's PC counterpart.

The AI kind of repeats the same thing's over & over wich can be boring..I dunno..if your a big RTS fan you'd proably be best off stickin to PC.

5 Criminally Underplayed Games That Need More Love

Dorkly: "History is written by the winners, and that applies to games, too. While we hold up our post-apocalyptic wasteland adventures, period piece assassinations and Liberty City crime sprees on a pedestal, we would do well to remember the little guys. These underseen, criminally underplayed games didn't do well critically or commercially, but they were still wonderful experiences. Here's a small list of recommendations of unsung heroes of the PS3/Xbox 360/Wii era."

Alpha Protocol had so much potential. I'd really like to see another spy rpg.

Alpha Protocol has some fantastic ideas in its conversation and story progression due to choices. I really enjoyed my time with it.

A spy rpg can be done with amazing results if handled correctly.

I would add 007: Bloodstone to the list. That game was criminally underrated.

Okami, Beyond Good and Evil, Chibi-Robo!, and Pikmin should be among these.

God Hand

Partly because I just recently discovered it and its insane.

What a gold nugget.

'Civilization': A brief history of just one more turn

XMNR: 2K Games and Firaxis Games officially unveiled “Civilization: Beyond Earth” at a PAX East, which ended Sunday. The storied franchise heads for the stars for the second time in its twenty-three year history but the history of Sid Meier’s just-one-more-turn creation is as interesting as the games themselves.
