Evolve can be fun, but can't be worth full price | Launch Impressions

looks mega boring and clunky and when i played the alpha and beta it felt clunky and boring.

also people was slagging titanfall off at launch etc for online only,no this and that yet evolve is even worse imo.

It's actually not clunky IMHO - the mechanics (traversal, aiming etc) have been really refined for the final release - but it is often pretty boring and repetitive depending on who you're matchmade with. At least for the amount they're charging!

Kinda wonder what might have happened if Turtle Rock had been able to buy their own IP back during the THQ sell off, rather than 2K squashing their bid and taking it for themselves. As a $20-30 dollar Steam download with a smaller amount of polished content, it might have been an underground smash.

It'll still be a hit, though. Just wonder if anyone will be playing the console versions after the summer.

EDIT: You can play Evolve offline/with bots though!

It is weird as it is quiet for ages and a bit dull, and then all hell breaks loose. If they could of just figured out a way to make hell breaking loose happen more often this would be a top title.

As it stands though, you do a lot of wandering. I do like it though. It just has a very odd pace to it.

It's a total shame, but the writing was on the wall for me. Videogamer.com has a review on YouTube if anyone is interested? I'm not endorsing the site, but I found their Evolve review pretty agreeable.

Apparently, (I'm not 100%) they blocked SharePlay functionality, but at least you can play offline ...Looking at you Destiny & The Crew!

It's a shame that the full game won't change the opinion I formed from the Alpha, if this article is anything to go by. Finding the right balance of players who know what they're doing alongside a capable monster proved too inconsistent, especially at a AAA price point.

It might be something I consider once the price drops though, but I'm definitely steering clear for now.

I think that's the key really. Developing this as a AAA title rather than a more appropriate budget download supported with DLC would have surely been a better idea, but no, gotta grab that $60+.

Yeah. Just be aware that console multiplayer shooters really don't retain their player bases for long if you're not considering the PC version.

Crazy, I had high hopes for Evolve. Still do but I can only buy one right now (time & money) so;

The Order; Single player only Feb 20th (no online) $60 (10-12 hours)

Evolve; (Mostly) online only Feb 10th (no real single player, like Destiny you SHOULD be playing this online only) $60 (online is unlimited hours)

I'm going single player only, nine more days!

The problem is unlimited hours of a boring game is still unlimited hours of a boring game. I knew thisbgane would turn out this way months ago. It doesn't have depth by design. It's very fun the first few times you play, but that's it. Its something you could pick up once in a while and have fun with, especially with friends, but sure as hell not for full price.

Online only is tough; MAG, Titanfall, Destiny and now Evolve suffer from not having a competent single player. I'm liking Destiny, never played any MMO before so playing MMOlite is cool...and wearing thin right about now.

I'm playing it and really loving the game actually. Surprisingly deep and strategic how you approach each game depending on who the monster is and has great potential to get better overtime as Titanfall did. I was looking foward to the game and as I have come to realize last year, I don't base my purchases on gaming websites and reviewers anymore cause it's theor job to nitpick games to death. Very happy wi th my purchase of the game and can't wait to play more.

I was really looking forward to this, but now I'm not sure. I'm more worried about how I would feel about the game 2 weeks after I got it. I'm still playing Battlefield 4... Do you think Evolve will have that kind of staying power? I'm honestly asking you as a gamer.

For me it will, like I said the strategy of the game is gooD as you have to take into account what monster your fighting, what game mode and what character the rest of your team has pick. If your trapper doesn't have Daisy, then that completely changes how you play cause now you really have to go out and search for the monster rather than rely on Daisy to find him. In the end your staying power of the game is based on if you put the time and effect into enjoying it.

When you've learned the maps it makes a lot more sense - you can predict where the monster is likely to hide, or on the other hand, where the best places to ambush the hunters are. Still really inconsistent in terms of fun for me though.

I would have maybe paid 45 for this game, but at 60 I feel it's not worth it.

Almost all games are not worth it to me since I have 5 games in the exact same genre that I haven't beaten. Drakes is one exception since I don't have a modern iteration of that, although tomb raider is close.

Other that star wars or something Roman I can't see buying a Day1 game again.
