Evolve dev gets caught damage controlling their over priced DLC!
Back in 2016, Turtle Rock announced that support for its 4v1 monster-hunting shooter Evolve would end but fans wouldn't let it die.
From NME: "Evolve: Stage 2 had its multiplayer servers shut down back in 2018, but today players are once again able to matchmake and join peer-to-peer multiplayer games.
Several months ago, peer-to-peer functionality was lost for Evolve Legacy, which was the only way fans of the series could play with friends. Upon a multitude of players reaching out to publisher 2K, the issue was eventually fixed earlier in July. It seems 2K have gone a step further now, and reinstated peer-to-peer and matchmaking functionality for Evolve: Stage 2 after four years."
Evolve is an asymmetrical multiplayer experience born at the tail-end of the wrong era, in the multiplayer world.
Great idea but poorly executed and destined to fail from the begging. Only thing I’m grateful towards this game is that it’s the one that convinced me to never buy a game blind again.
Shadowrun for the Xbox 360/PC would of been a better example of a great online game that launched At the wrong time.
I didn't think the fact that the guy commenting being a dev was a bad thing or even a big deal. The Author missed a HUGE perspective on the story just for hits, then the sensational fanboys in the comment section kept on riding the "Expose" bandwagon like moths to a fire, without bothering to look at what the dev is saying. That being that the code for DLC on the disc is just an executable with the model for the characters, but is still unfinished. It's something I thought about before, but never got a full picture of. I appreciated the devs perspective...But. I still don't get how making certain DLC, like Story DLC in Batman Arkham Knight for example exclusive to gamestop isn't just a cheap move on the devs part. That being said they could just leave cosmetic stuff to have the retailer promote, but it kinda screws the fans when you put a part of the story exclusive to one retailer.
DLC has been ruining the gaming industry since 2008/2009. These practices aren't sustainable when the average price for a game with a seasons pass is around $120.00 here in Canada ($69.99 for the base game and $59.99 for a seasons pass). The gaming industry is a bubble waiting to burst when it comes to the development of triple A games.
Justify things however you want, developers, but dlc pricing like this will just leave a bad taste in peoples' mouths and will not be accepted for long. The game seems okay but after hearing the dlc pricing, I just lost interest altogether. This isn't nickel-and-diming anymore, this is dollar-billing.
I can't speak for everyone else, but I was born in the late 80's...my first console was a Nintendo and I've been actively gaming and enjoying myself ever since on multiple systems without very many complaints...and I gotta say that the shit that's been going on in the game industry lately not just via social media, but with developer and publishing company choices to just give the consumer the middle finger in so many ways is really making this generation hard to enjoy.
Most of these practices started coming into play mid/end life cycle of last gen, but it wasn't this bad. It was manageable depending on just how much you could tolerate, but now it's getting pretty insane...for a person like me who remembers when these "DLC" items where included in the game as extra incentive to keep you playing. It's pretty mind-boggling to see how these companies are so hell bent on squeezing every penny out of you, but it's downright horrendous to know there are fellow gamers who actually support this practice.
When the thought of DLC was introduced I remember people where all for it, a way for developers to continue to support their game even after release with downloadable content, now it's just a method in which they dissect the game and sell it back to you in bits and pieces the acronym; for ME anyway means "DiscLockedContent" because that's all it is.
All the features and unique things you could once get in games for simply playing them or beating them like extra skins and costumes have been monopolized now by these corporations and has been replaced with hollow "Achievement Unlocks" and "Trophies" that reward you for doing something as unachievable as completing the "First Chapter".
People really need to stop damage controlling this kind of thing and trying to give these guys the benefit of the doubt...we've given them the benefit of the doubt before...obviously...and look where it's gotten us now. $60 games that are buggy as all hell on launch and Character Skins costing 3 dollars a pop, it's pretty disgusting.
You know I can see his intentions in a good/bad way I understand they need the money to recoup costs. But the way he compares it to LoL cant truly apply here because as he even said is that you can earn them as for the "time" factor If the grind is doable and I really like the game I will most definetly make time especially for games like LoL. Now my last thing to keep this short is that he really messed up trying to be an anonymous tool and trying to get away with it especially if its during an issue like this DLC fumble.
