Drive Club Review | The Final Line

Graphically this game is a piece of art. Driving around with the sun in your glaring upon your eyes makes for difficult situations, but small weather conditions like that truly makes you feel part of the game. The car selection is not as deep as we would like it to be, but the amount of detail put into each vehicle is something to appreciate. A big issue with Drive Club was the launch, since then issues have been fixed to make this a very enjoyable title in the racing genre.

This is a new review structure for us and would appreciate any community feedback on it. Here is a link to our page explaining how we go about our reviews if you are curious or confused http://thefinalline.com/rev... Thank you and hope you enjoy it!

WickedLester3786d ago (Edited 3786d ago )

Well right off the bat, I strongly disagree with your review in saying it has a "lackluster single player." What more do you want? The Tour mode is very robust, especially with all of the new events that have been added. Also saying it can get repetitive when playing by yourself, you can pretty much insert that comment into ANY video game, racing especially. Also why is "story" even factored into this? It's a racing game for god's sake not an RPG. Story shouldn't even be factored into the score. Also, if you're reviewing this game now in it's current state, why on earth are you deducting points for launch issues that happened 3 months ago?? To me that's ridiculous.

Your overall score of 71/100 IMO is not remotely accurate and does not properly reflect the quality of this game. If Driveclub to you is only a 71, you either a.) don't care for racing games or b.) have some unrealistic idea of what a great racing game should be.

riverstars863786d ago

@wicked

This is his opinion of the game, it is okay to differ from yours. You do not need to attack him, just acknowledge that you disagree and move on...

typittt693786d ago

He's asking about your opinion on the new structure of the reviews. Not your opinion of his opinion of the game, which may differ from person to person.

WickedLester3786d ago

@riverstars

Where did I attack him? I never made it personal. I never insulted him. I simply told him I disagreed and I expressed the reasons why.

riverstars863786d ago

Your last paragraph can be taken as a personal attack.

Oschino19073786d ago (Edited 3786d ago )

"Here at The Final Line we support that the gamers should receive a working title at the day of launch, not 3 months later."

Everyone I know said the online worked day 1 before the servers got slammed and I watched plenty of working live streams before launch day. Single player always worked also. I got it 2 weeks after launch and the online was working.

And after reading your review structures I must say they seem over complicated to a fault. Basically the structure used for each type is either too restricting for some games or shoe horned emphasis on certain features to fit a game type.

ainTgoTTime2bleed3786d ago (Edited 3786d ago )

Dude, you don't get it, don't you?...This ''broken'' game has been selling twice more than their ''main competitor'', so somehow the biased media needs to downplay it as much as possible, they're hurt and it shows;)
Thank god ''it's broken'' ......if it wasn't.......

Team_Litt3786d ago

Yikes! Well that escalated quickly!
So if one does not love DC then one either doesn't know anything about good racing or one has lofty expectations.

Got it.

WickedLester3786d ago

@ Team litt

The problem with the review is that it doesn't attempt to qualify it's remarks. The review says the game has "lackluster single player" but goes into no detail explaining why, especially when any reasonable gamer knows that's not the case at all. Plus factoring in "story" for a racing game is just pointless.

Playdor3786d ago

I still need to play this!

snookiegamer3786d ago (Edited 3786d ago )

It's not a 71/100. In My Opinion it's more like an 8.5 or 9/10. I'll add, the Reviewer has asked for feedback ..that's what She/He is getting.

You cannot censor somebody's (Constructive) feedback, nor dictate what form that feedback takes. So people here need not leap like Lemmings to the Reviewers Defence.

Nobody has (Yet) attacked Anybody. But sometimes, you just shouldn't ask, and N4G does not have a very forgiving nor easy-to-win-over Crowd.

Final Line Advice. Keep it Simple, Maintain Integrity.

FEEDBACK 101 ;/

uth113786d ago

I can live with 71.

The 3/10's and 5/10's that other reviews gave it are ridiculous though.

TheStrokes3786d ago (Edited 3786d ago )

An easy 8.

Fun-factor alone is quality. Like back in the day playing the 1st stage on Sega rally... trying to beat you or your mates best lap time. Add to that the graphics and polish.
IMO not every racer needs to be all about 500 cars ill probably never use and slight gear/drive-wheel etc... changes.

If you dont have fun with this game as single player and especially online then you dont deserve to review it.

Ps... im drunk.

Classic PS4 Racer DriveClub Is Now a Decade Old

PushSquare:

DriveClub, the legendary PS4 racer from shuttered Runcorn studio Evolution, has such an interesting story.

Originally announced alongside the PS4, the game had been intended as a launch title – we even played it in a big London church Sony had rented to showcase the new system prior to its release.

Evolution was done dirty... DC is still the most stunning visual game of its generation. They certainly deserved better in the end.

VenomUK245d ago (Edited 245d ago )

DriveClub was pretty and I loved the experience of driving in the rain, it was immersive. I had some good races with people from an old forum, but at times I found it to be a bit boring. MotorStorm was such a fun game to play and I loved the controls - it would make sense to remaster that.

DarXyde245d ago

I'd give the visual showcase award of the last generation to The Order: 1886. That game was immaculate.

Uncharted 4 was also absolutely insane, and perhaps manages to use the PS4's power in extremely clever ways.

jznrpg245d ago

It didn’t get good reviews unfortunately

obidanshinobi245d ago

Cause the game was mediocre at best, and surpassed in pretty much every area by Forza Horizon 2.

IRetrouk245d ago

Apart from visuals, driving model, weather effects, only thing forza had was an open world...

Inverno245d ago (Edited 245d ago )

It's multiplayer component was the only thing struggling at launch but the game was still perfectly playable offline. Done dirty is an understatement because how many games after came out with broken online components that got a pass? Now games with an SP and MP get separate reviews for SP and MP smh! SONY shut them down as if Evo had been bleeding money instead of putting out great games. Their fate was undeserved and they were the targets of a media smear campaign due to that one trailer.

Knushwood Butt245d ago

Loved it.
Now here's a game that would benefit from a remaster.
4K, 60 FPS
I'd buy it.

ravens52245d ago

Might have to fire it up. Got it day 1, it was great to me.

outsider1624245d ago

See? Another reason why physical is important. Going all digital will have you miss out games like this.

Gabrielmpf245d ago

I loved tackling the leaderboards. It's a shame they couldn't even keep them.

Yi-Long245d ago

Brilliant game, I really miss it, and it deserved so much better than what Sony did to it.
Most important reason I liked it; It was FUN. That’s it. The actual gameplay, throwing a car around corners, the challenging AI opponents, the entertaining tracks which were peak-design, etc etc, it was above all just FUN to play.

60FPS on PS5: Unofficial PS5 'FPS Boost' mods are radically improving PS4 back compat

Digital Foundry : Whether it's via FPS Boost or bespoke software upgrades, backwards compatibility on the current-gen consoles delivered an unexpected delight - the ability to liberate older console games from their 30fps limits, running them at 60 frames per second or even higher. FPS Boost did the business for Xbox Series consoles on an impressive range of titles, but there was always the sense that PS5 could do more. It's a hunch that checks out as a range of frame-rate unlocks are available for PS5, covering many must-have games - the major caveat being that only exploitable consoles running on older firmwares are invited to the party.

you love to see new life being breathed into older titles but damn the process to get there. It should be automatic that these work for everyone... not just those who exploit their systems. Really wish Sony and MS would keep this program going officially.

Psychonaut85516d ago

Damn this sucks. I want this shit so bad, but I’m not jailbreaking my console. And frankly I shouldn’t have to. I’m not a tech person, but is it really that hard for developers to unlock the framerate? Or would that have to be a large patch?

dveio516d ago (Edited 516d ago )

"but is it really that hard for developers to unlock the framerate?"

I guess it's not.

But it has become a profitable business if you do so.

So no one would pay for only the framerate patched to being unlocked. So studios need to offer more than that.

But this would take more time, polishing and would cost more money. So they shy away, but won't unlock the framerate, either.

That's just my personal assumption. But from what I can comprehend technically, it shouldn't be difficult to unlock framerates via a patch for older games.

... if it hadn't became a business.

RaidenBlack516d ago (Edited 516d ago )

frame-rate unlock should be free ...
We've seen many devs offer free patches and updates to pretty old PC titles, even bonuses ... so why can't devs offer the frame unlock patch for free (in consultation with the platform-producers) for a title from just a generation earlier?

Einhander1972516d ago

RaidenBlack

"frame-rate unlock should be free ..."

Obviously the result of that thinking is that developers aren't even going to do it.

If they had been allowed to charge $5-10 you would see incentivized developers doing it way more often.

People just always want everything for free, but it's not free to make the patch, people have to code it then other people have to test it, and there will always be other costs involved.

If people want dollar store gaming then expect to get what you pay for.

shinoff2183515d ago (Edited 515d ago )

Raiden I might be wrong but last I thought it cost money to put patches out on consoles.

As far as me paying for it, I'm not all that interested tbh. Not enough to pay for it with older games, and newer games have been pretty decent about it for the most part.

dumahim516d ago

Sounds like the modder has to go in to make changes to unlock it on a game by game basis. "Simple" enough to do it unofficially, but to have it done officially, they need someone to go in a make that change, put out a patch and put it through certification, which I believe is not necessarily a cheap thing to do. It's questionable if going through this would then give them enough sales to make it worthwhile.

Inverno516d ago

Many games still have physics tied to framerate, i think it's cause they wouldn't want to go in and do anything extra. Then there's the 10 dollar upgrades they rather charge. The problem is that there's no compromise, cause if I could mod my PS4 and all I'd lose is online play then id jailbreak it immediately. Mods have done so much for PC games and they could do the same for consoles, but manufacturers hafto be willing to compromise.

shinoff2183515d ago

It's not to hard to do and there's youtube videos that break it down really well. ANyway most of us here arent able to break are console anyway due to being up to date on firmware from playing

+ Show (1) more replyLast reply 515d ago
Chocoburger516d ago

Yep, this sucks having to require a jailbreak for something that should be standard in our industry by now. I learned my lesson when PS4 was jailbroken and I didn't keep a console on low firmware for years, but now I'm holding onto two low firmware PS5s specifically because there are features I'll be able to do that you can't do on official firmware, so this will pay off for me soon enough.

Jin_Sakai516d ago

It should be a sin to let these games sit and be stuck at 30fps.

EazyC516d ago

RDR 2 not getting a 60FPS patch for PS5 was a crime.
