Phil Robb Clarifies his stand on Criticism over Evolve's Huge, Paid DLC

Turtle Rock Studios has announced a ton of DLC for Evolve even before the main has been released, resulting in heavy criticism for making gamers spend more money against their own will.

There is a lot going on there. I mean when you think about it Evolve is not out and a lot of players may not be sold on actually getting it yet so idk asking for people to drop extra money on it is a little bit uncalled for.

Especially for a game that is already overpriced, IMO.

I played the alpha and beta and it's seriously just running around 4v1 over and over and over.... With no loot drops or anything to keep it exciting.

It's very repetitive and should only be a $30 or $40 game at most.

lemoncake3540d ago

yeah the game didn't feel like it should be a full priced game at beta and the modes and content we now know it comes with hasn't changed my feeling on that. I think it would have launched at half the price but the awards they won has gone to their heads a little, it will probably drop in price quick.

DEM best of E3 awards....lol

mark my words
Evovle and The Division will be this years biggest fails

(not flops though)

* Evolve didn't initially excite me. The idea was nice, but I could see it wasn't going to work as intended and there would be a level of hype surrounding this game it could or would never match.

* It honestly just looks bland, uninteresting and not that much fun to play.

* I haven't played it so I DON'T KNOW......but that is just based on gameplay I've watched and articles and interviews I've read.

* ALL of the artists in the gaming industry need to GET BETTER at creating characters.

* Way too many bland and generic evil looking monster bad guys.

* All the $60/DLC/Pre-purchase BS is just extra baggage that this game didn't need.

* I would blame poor leadership, and ideas.

I played loads of games during the alpha, and your guess is correct,it gets boring real fast.

Its the type of game that demos well at E3 in 10-20 min sessions, but once you get a few hours with it you realise it boils down to following glowing footprints for 10 mins then 10-15 of unbalanced death match.

The flying kracken was well overpowered, but overall its just a bit dull IMO.

dreamed3540d ago

Agreed, look at 'dying light' if you pre order on xb1 you get the vs mode.

Oh how I miss the days of paying £40 for a game and actually getting the game.

Where did games industry loose its way?..... am I being entitled to expect a full game for £54.99?...so what happens if you don't pre order?......my guess is the same as alien isolation......you pay,yes its only a few pounds/dollars,but its the fact all this stuff used to be standard.

If publishers want to chop games up,then the prices need to be chopped up to fit.

I'm all for just buying multiplayer or singleplayer or both, but like I said the price needs to be sorted so everyone's happy coz IMO charging later or forcing pre orders is a shit trick.

Its practices like this that's turning me off gaming altogether, and I've been gaming since 1984.

This gen has so far (& for the fist time ever) started to erode my interest in gaming altogether, I think I was expecting a lot more from both consoles, maybe it will come with games like 'the division',but with ubisoft on board there's a great chance of the game just not working at all ,also the devs are called massive so maybe ubisoft just publishers.........one can hope I guess.

Anyway I'm sure I can't be the only in who feels a little underwhelmed with the current generation of console.......then again maybe I am alone on my opinion????????......like i keep saying hopefully MGS 5 the phantom pain will be the first fully next gen/current gen game coz IMO most games on x1/ps4 could be done on 360/ps3,not all but most....all just my opinion though guys.

Man I feel like this guy is covering his ears going " la la la la la" while shrugging and pointing at 2K. Im not completely blaming Turtle Rock Studios entirely, but man they really look convinced that those DLC prices are okay optional or not.

Skate-AK3539d ago

Well the publisher is the one funding the game. Turtle Rock seems like they are convinced the prices are ok but I am sure they don't believe it themselves. They don't want to bite the hand that feeds, especially if they have unannounced titles being worked on that 2K is also publishing.

Evolve or Die: The final days of the follow-up to Left 4 Dead

Back in 2016, Turtle Rock announced that support for its 4v1 monster-hunting shooter Evolve would end but fans wouldn't let it die.

‘Evolve: Stage 2’ is back from the dead as peer-to-peer servers come back online

From NME: "Evolve: Stage 2 had its multiplayer servers shut down back in 2018, but today players are once again able to matchmake and join peer-to-peer multiplayer games.

Several months ago, peer-to-peer functionality was lost for Evolve Legacy, which was the only way fans of the series could play with friends. Upon a multitude of players reaching out to publisher 2K, the issue was eventually fixed earlier in July. It seems 2K have gone a step further now, and reinstated peer-to-peer and matchmaking functionality for Evolve: Stage 2 after four years."

^^this, I have so many awesome skins on Xbox that I’d rather not lose

Germaximus788d ago

Yes so far because it's just the servers alone coming on and the console version never had the free-to-play update.

I imagine if they find people playing the PC version and enough players are enjoying it then they'd probably reconsider opening console as well but I wouldn't count on it.

The game was epic as a monster. Hunters were really boring to play as to me.

LordoftheCritics788d ago

I used to play this a bit.

Was kinda fun.

Great idea but poorly executed and destined to fail from the begging. Only thing I’m grateful towards this game is that it’s the one that convinced me to never buy a game blind again.

Shadowrun for the Xbox 360/PC would of been a better example of a great online game that launched At the wrong time.

Livingthedream1257d ago

Shadow Run was fantastic! Would probably do alot better now.

DaveZero1257d ago

Is this a new evolve game??
