Drew from GuG writes: I just spent the latter half of my day playing Halo 5 Guardians Multiplayer Beta on Xbox One. I was invited into the beta early because I am an Xbox Dashboard preview user.
I fired up Halo 5 and jumped right into a 4 v 4 Slayer match and that is when I stopped playing all I know as Halo. Sure all of the Halo familiarities are there. The look and feel for the most part is what we have all come to love about Halo, even the reboots. The problem is that this game plays like a combination of Halo and Call of Duty with a little bit of Titanfall mixed in. If Halo 5 is anything like a Halo game in the franchise, it would be most similar to Halo: Reach.
Halo 5: Guardians and several other Xbox One exclusives will become playable on PC thanks to a new Xbox One translation layer
Isn't this the foundation for your next Xbox?
This is exactly what some of us have been talking about...a way to bridge existing console users into a Xbox branded PC
I am just astonished that MS wants to make as much money as Xbox as possible yet so many of their older games aren’t on PC
In Halo 4, 5, and Infinite, Master Chief became a more nuanced, human character.
In spite of the Halo series’ struggles, 343 deserves praise for adding nuance and characterisation to the ever-beating heart of Halo - The Master Chief. Playing through Infinite, it's abundantly clear that the events of the current and previous trilogies have irrevocably changed the iconic hero. He’s no longer the ‘blank slate’ that was previously presented by Bungie. He’s a fatigued, damaged and fallible protagonist, and one who is meandering through currents of grief, while reveling in his newfound agency. Giving the Chief a compelling and meaningful voice was no small feat, and 343 should be proud of that victory.
This article completely misses part of the appeal of the original iteration of character in the original game trilogy. It was the Chief and Cortana vs an entire alien collective. The blank slate Bungie displayed in their games was genius, he was an mysterious hero a wide audience could identify with because he wasn't as clearly defined as most characters.
The books added a lot of lore and backstory but most Halo players just want a fun game with exposition that doesn't get in the way of gameplay, it's why the Cortana level in Halo 3 was derided.
Not every character has to be a damaged soyboy, a soldier has to suck it up and do his duty.
The 343i Master Chief has is based on the books. However, in Halo 4-Infinite, the Master Chief overtime become. gradually becomes more willing to show some emotion.
Daily Video Game writes: "GameStop is running a new pre-owned game sale on over 1000 pre-owned games that offers four pre-owned ($9.99 or less) games for $20 across multiple gaming platforms right now, including PS3 and Xbox 360!"
Given the nature of backwards compatibility on new systems, this is a great sale in case you missed out on some gems from last gen.
Most of the games on Xbox are on game pass. The Switch games in this sale are trash c'mon farming simulator that's laughable. The PS4 games should be cheaper. I can't wait for the GameStop going out of business liquidation sale.
These sales, while potentially great, really struggle to be valuable given you can't easily parse what games are in stock. You can't just say "only show what is online & what are in my nearby stores". Probably 60-75% of these games in these massive lists are out of stock for shipping, and out of stock locally. It makes it a chore to find anything you'd want, much less 4 of them, much less enough if you wanted to get to a free shipping tier. It's a bummer.
While i believe fans will be pissed but the change is needed to keep things fresh but then again what made Halo unique was its different gameplay from your usual fps and am not really sure ADS should be in the game because it feels the game is now just another fps.
Halo fanboys will forever live in the past. Don't like the changes? Then go play the MCC. Sprint,ADS,etc have all been the standards for over a decade now. Going back and playing the HALO 2 anniversary was nice and nostalgic and all, but it was very outdated. Personally, I think Halo is done multiplayer wise. The story will still be fun I'm sure, but the online is on life alert. This game doesn't look too different than Halo 4 and we all know what happened with that games population. Halo needs a major overhaul if it wants to compete with the big guns like Call of Duty,Battlefield, etc.
lol im a fan, and it made me happy. sooooooo..... nice try. halo is comeing, and as it stands now its awesome. hopefully it continues to get better. at least we are playing it, helping shape the game. instead of watching vids and reading articles about it. no hype just game. game on.
Stop whining...the beta has been getting great feesback so far and I am sick of people wanting to stick with the old gameplay 100% to the tee and not let developers try new things and advance the series forward.
I compare this to music. If I want to listen to the old metallica, I'll listen to Master of Puppets or Injustice for all...or in this case Halo 1,2,3 from the MCC that was just released. If I am still a fan of Metallica, I'll give their new record, Death Magnetic, a chance. It may not be the same as previous Metallica albums, but is it any good and still represent the spirit of the band that I love? The answer is yes! It is not like they had released a country album but it is still "in your face" hardrock heavy metal even if it is not the same music arrangement as the old songs.
For Halo and any other games for that matter, changes sometimes is good and rejuvenate a franchise. Zelda, for example, went through many gameplay changes over the years and the series keep on reinventing itself and the next game should also do the same for the series. If you want Halo 2 or 3 MP, MS gave you that with the relase of MCC that is out now, and if you want a new chapter of Halo, that is what Halo 5 is.
People need to put that in perspective and not cry about anything that is added to the game as a negative all the time. I am playing the preview of the game for the past couple of days and the smoothness, speed, and the new play mechanic are really tight and I can't imagine ever goong back to the Halo 2 MP after this. It still has the same Halo spirit and people calling it a COD clone don't know what they are talking about until they try both games and see for themselves.
