The Top 5 Most Improved Video Game Sequels

Power Up Gaming writes: "We have all played video games that knocked our socks off at some point or another; we've also played games that have been afforded general apathy or even a sweeping wave of disgust. When a sequel to any title that falls into either of these categories comes along, it's a defining moment for gamers. A sequel can make or break a franchise for both die-hard loyalists and those still raging about its predecessor.

Today, we take a look at five of the more successful gaming sequels; those that vastly improved their respective series or possibly even cemented it as a staple. Whether they wowed us on multiple levels, were a major upgrade from their roots, or even had us left cheering or speechless – one thing is for certain: all of them were left stuck in our hearts and minds."

This article really makees me want to play GTA III all over again!

Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door was such a good game. Even the third Paper Mario didn't quite hit that emotional height and it had Peach marrying Bowser.

To me at least. Uncharted 2 was a huge leap from Uncharted. They added multiplayer, coop and improved on the story, graphics. The franchise went from a good rent to a must buy because of that.

I loved Uncharted 1, but the leap to 2 was gigantic in every sense - especially in terms of storytelling and the balance of set pieces and player controlled action.

Rimeskeem3866d ago

Uncharted hit the bar for TPS action adventure while Uncharted 2 raised that bar and making only one way for the bar to be raised even higher. Having the same dev create TLOU.

GoBySanchez3866d ago

I agree. Personally I did not like the first one at all, but I loved the second one.

madcowzz3866d ago

No sign of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves? Or Red Dead Redemption? That had a way bigger improvement over its predecessor. Same with Fallout 3. I guess there's only so much you can fit in a top 5 though

UC2 was extremely close to inclusion; if it had been a top ten then I definitely would've found a spot for it. As for RDR, I consider it more of a spiritual successor to Revolver rather than a sequel.

I'd put Halo 2 in here - not because of the campaign, but for the evolution of console multiplayer that it represented.

Those games were pretty mid. In fact, I'm surprised they even put The Getaway: Black Monday. But they left out much better games like Way of the Samurai 1-2, Okami, Jak 2 or 3, Final Fantasy 12, Yakuza 1-2, or SSX 3.

porkChop1093d ago

So yes it looks good but the thing is once you start building new assets and making significant changes like what's been done here it stops being gta 3.
In the example shots roads are so narrow they are essentially one way streets.

I'm not crapping on the work.this guy did it's fantastic but it's not gta 3.

This isn't a gta 3 remake in ue it's a fan game that uses gta 3 as inspiration if that's better or worse it's subjective.

Gta definitive wasn't great but that was more related to the ugly character models and bugs 1 was an attempt by gsg to leave a mark on the game the other was their lack of care.

Part of the charm of GTA is the semi cartoonish look it has. Making it too realistic doesn't fit the game.

LordoftheCritics1093d ago

Remove the main character walking and its another generic enviroment demo.
