There are indie efforts like Don’t Starve and big, AAA productions such as The Last of Us that celebrate even simple accomplishments, like finding more food and bandages. The Long Dark, an upcoming survival game is taking this same route. But unlike the other titles mentioned, this game takes place in the first person perspective, and rather than struggle against implacable foes, it puts players up against the harshest enemy they are likely to ever encounter; the unforgiving Canadian wilderness.

That's according to a new developer diary in which Hinterland Studio reflects on the last eight years of development, as well as teasing what may be coming next, including a premium season pass to ensure the game "continues to be financially self-sustaining"."
