Gamer Headlines: A recent editorial made some comparisons between the Xbox One and the Wii U. Several commenters to that editorial on Gamer Headlines and elsewhere challenged the comparison, even claiming that it is actually doing worse than the Wii U. So which is doing better: Wii U or Xbox One? This article looks at the numbers.

XB1 has some nice exclusives but Nintendo's look more interesting to me. Third party support is a win for Xbox, but I think most people will go for a PS4 or PC for those. Based on that I'm gonna have to go Wii U. But that's only after PS4 IMO.

Ariamythe3917d ago

Nintendo's biggest strength is their stable of characters. Unfortunately, that's about all they have in this generation. I will probably buy a Wii U when the new Zelda game comes out (not Hyrule Warriors) because by then there will be enough games on the system to make it worth the investment.

randomass1713917d ago

That's a pretty good way to go about it. There might be another price drop by then as well. I got mine right around when Mario Kart came out and got a heck of a deal on it too. I wanted it mainly for Mario Kart and Smash Bros., but I also want to get Bayonetta and Hyrule Warriors. For me there's enough and hopefully I can even get a PS4 by next year. I'm basically good for the generation after that. :)

how do we determine which console is best?

By the amount of sales generated, or by the quality of the games?

Well, since this is gaming we are dealing with, the determental factor that reveals who is best when it comes to (gaming), is obviously going to be the quality of the games, not how much a games sells lol.

Does XB1 or PS4 have a game more challenging than DK Tropical Freeze for wiiU?

Does XB1 or PS4 have a higher quality, more imaginative game than Super Mario 3D World? A game praised by game designers world wide ? Already being called game of this generation.

Did XB1 or PS4 change gaming like the wiiU did with the gaming pad? no more split screen?

Does XB1 or PS4 have a more imaginative, better looking, more Adult game than Bayonetta 2 for wiiU?

(((viewer discretion is advised)))

and http://gifsforum.com/images...

Does XB1 or PS4 have a unique game that allows players to go from 3rd person, to 1st person mixed with parkour elements like never before in the history of gaming? As shown bellow in the wiiU exclusive Devils 3rd? A game where weapons actually shred body parts and limbs with weapon blasts?

http://gifsforum.com/images...

and http://gifsforum.com/images...

Does XB1 have a more imaginative, and challenging game than The WOnderful 101 for wiiU?

i could go on and on folks .

Locknuts3917d ago

Yeah. I feel the same way except with the PS4. I usually buy a Sony console at the end of a generation for the exclusives.

Chrischi19883917d ago

Articles like that can only end in fanboy war... For me it is Wii U, but that is my opinion.

Ariamythe3917d ago

Except that this article isn't asking which is better, but which is SELLING better. For that we have numbers.

ftwrthtx3917d ago

Nintendo has the advantage of having a stable of characters with a long history as well as a very forgiving fan base.

wonderfulmonkeyman3917d ago (Edited 3917d ago )

*looks at the wii u's first year sales, particularly when they fell off a cliff after the expected and natural early adopter boost, and the subsequent amount of time it took them afterwards to get themselves up on their feet and earning their sales for the system*
...
You call that forgiving?
I'd say the fanbase held them accountable for a lot of their screw-ups, and that they EARNED their climb back up to the positive state of slow recovery they are currently in.
Their future is looking brighter by the day, and they've earned it through a lot of changing how they did things.

Concertoine3917d ago

Well said. I remember a comment war a year or so ago when people were saying nintendo fans would buy a system with no momentum like the Wii U and i was like "Have you seen these sales? Nintendo fans ain't buying crap."

If people ate up the Wii U like they did the Wii, i doubt the system would be half as appealing to hardcore fans. They'd just sit on their asses and count money like they did most of 7th gen. Now they have to prove themselves to fans, and that's good for us.

ftwrthtx3917d ago

Considering they are making their way back, I'd call that a forgiving fan base.

wonderfulmonkeyman3917d ago (Edited 3917d ago )

No, just smart enough to realise when Nintendo has made up for some of their screw ups and to give them what they've earned.
Fans waited until the console had more to it to deserve sales.
If Nintendo makes the same mistakes next gen(God forbid), you can count on those same players holding them accountable once more

ftwrthtx3917d ago

I think they can count on those same folks spending their money again.

wonderfulmonkeyman3917d ago (Edited 3917d ago )

If by that you mean the same miniscule amount of early adopters and few others, then possible, but not likely.
But they'll have fewer than before if the pull the same stunts again, and that's something I'd put money on.

Goku7813917d ago

Even Wii U is more quality than Xbox One.

Majin-vegeta3917d ago

I say both are about the same or so.I say wait until after the Holidays,Then this article would make sense.

I am not surprised imo because it felt like that for awhile.

S2Killinit6d ago

Truth is that it was always sort of a lie. You were getting a couple of “day one” per year but they had trained people to think they were going to get all games day one.

GhostScholar6d ago

That is just false. It was never even eluded to that any games other than first party would be day one. Also it’s only April and we’ve already got more than “a couple” day one games.

TheEroica6d ago

What a misinformed comment... As bad a take as I've read in a while.

InUrFoxHole6d ago

Cmon guy. You really believed all games were coming day one when they've always said 1st party only?

S2Killinit6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

They did it really carefully, i didnt say they ever said “all games are day one” but they created an impression like that was the case. For instance nowhere did people actually see a list of day one games in articles or from MS’s mouth, but they kept saying “all first party” as if the number of day one games was something amazing. Truth is that they were getting a couple of games per year max on average. (Not sure what its like now)

@GhostScholar
Again, not sure what you got this year. But honestly is it even remotely worth it? Also, they get “day ones” on PSPlus as well, just not first party, and they are not paying $20/month for it.

FinalFantasyFanatic6d ago

It's not like they could do any differently, it takes a lot of money to keep the Gamepass monster fed, to put the majority of games on there day one is just going to drain too much money. They may have considered it at one point to try and kill off Playstation/Nintendo, but it's not a viable long-term strategy.

Just throwing shade at Ubisoft like that.

"Nintendo’s audience will buy the game if it wants to, regardless of sales."

Sales? What sales? People buy Nintendo games at full price because they don't go on sale.

SlothLordPootus15d ago

That and the fact that their 3rd party support has been near nonexistent, so if you own the system you have basically no choice in what to buy. Especially with the switch it was nintendo first party or indies.

Obelisk9215d ago

Each company just wants to make the most profit, and Nintendo is such a strong brand that can afford to sell games at full prices withouth sales.
Weaker brands need to go on sale in order to continue selling some units.
That's just how it goes.

Christopher15d ago

Why I don't play Switch games and won't be buying a Switch 2. I tried, but it's just not for me or my wallet.

Dudebro14d ago

Nintendo is a game company only.althought I don't like it you can't see where they're coming from.nintendo doesn't have a diverse portfolio.

theres a reason why hes a "former" employee.

woth that kinda mindset, i would have fired him too ha.

__SteakDeck__15d ago

What are you talking about? He wasn’t fired. Nintendo wanted to move his show to Seattle and he didn’t want to leave California.

franwex15d ago

Keeping it real? I would’ve promoted him.

lukasmain16d ago

They value their games? Meaning others who have sales don't? How fking rude of this dude. Nintendo are really arrogant

LucasRuinedChildhood15d ago (Edited 15d ago )

Hopefully they get humbled like with the 3DS launch but I doubt it. There's enough early adopters that are very enthusiastic.

VariantAEC14d ago

I don't doubt that Nintendo will be forced to swallow their pride again.

SoloGamer115d ago

because Nintendo is anti-consumer
