Naughty Dog claims that The Last of Us Remastered's 60fps frame rate is "as good or better than any other game that says [it's running] at 60fps", promising a "very stable" experience to fans looking to pick up the game next month.
I can't wait to play this, but I was wondering what frame rate should I play this on N4G 1080p/60fps or 1080p/30fps. Both have their ups and downs.
Does it matter, it's The Last of Us we are talking about here ;) Either one, the game is a masterpiece and will play masterfully LOL
Why not play through on both setting? I've heard many say they've done multiple playthroughs! Problem solved.
30fps and why not force the res down to 720p while your at it.... 60fps of course.
...? No 60fps really doesn't have any negatives vs. 30fps. It's stupid to even think that.
720p/30fps feel better. -hipster
I dont believe theres any ups or down to a higher frame rate. 60fps is better than 30fps.
Honestly, I would hope so. It's a ps3 game, running on next gen hardware. I could only imagine the out-lash that would happen if the game didn't run a steady 60FPS. The gaming community have been reading about how great the game runs at 60FPS non-stop for the past month. I hope to see all PS4 games run at 60FPS by the end of next year. @Sazuke, I think the only reason ND added the 30FPS option is for the multiplayer veteran's of TLOU on PS3 that are making jumping to ps4 (like me). I'm going to try to get use to the 60FPS, but I've been playing TLOU so much on ps3, that I will switch it to 30FPS if i feel i am playing poorly. I think i will adapt to the 60FPS pretty easily. I feel like, if anything, i will play a lot better with the "smoother" aiming.
Why are people talking about this game running 60fps so much as if that is some feat? It's a last generation game. I hope it could run 60fps on the current generation hardware.
There were rumors after they added 30FPS mode... its all very silly
Your right, I expect any last gen game to be at least 1080p 60fps. Shouldn't be an issue, same for halo and metro redux.
Well for Halo 3/4 in the MCC bundle yh because they are said to be just natively rendered in 1080p/60fps without any improvements. Metro redux has quite a few improvements to the graphics. I think 1080p shouldn't be a problem for PS3/X360 games on the XB1/PS4 even with improvements like bigger lighting and such but 60fps may not always be set. @JBSleek It kinda of is given how it was made for the PS3. "I wish we had a button that was like ‘Turn On PS4 Mode’, but no," Druckmann said. "We expected it to be hell, and it was hell. Just getting an image onscreen, even an inferior one with the shadows broken, lighting broken and with it crashing every 30 seconds … that took a long time. These engineers are some of the best in the industry and they optimized the game so much for the PS3’s SPUs specifically. It was optimized on a binary level, but after shifting those things over, you have to go back to the high level, make sure the systems are intact, and optimize it again. "I can’t describe how difficult a task that is. And once it’s running well, you’re running the [versions] side by side to make sure you didn’t screw something up in the process, like physics being slightly off, which throws the game off, or lighting being shifted and all of a sudden it’s a drastically different look. That’s not ‘improved’ any more; that’s different. We want to stay faithful while being better." http://www.polygon.com/2014...
There are games on consoles that are locked 60 FPS, so how is The Last of Us Remastered unlocked frame rate that isn't 60 FPS locked better than 60 FPS locked?
On the technical side, I think what we've been able to do with achieve at 60fps is as good or better than any other game that says that they're at 60fps." I may be wrong, but I don't honestly feel this statement makes any sense whatsoever. Firstly, 60fps is 60fps. There is no better or worse here. It is what it is. Secondly: an unlocked framerate over a game locked at a certain framerate, even if it allows it to go higher at times, doesn't seem optimal to me. Even if the game is at times hitting as high as 80fps, all that means is players will experience slow-down when it drops back down to 60. Doesn't feel as good or better to me. There's a chance I am missing something here though. I am a PC gamer. I like things running as fast and as nice as I can. That said, if I have a game that can't keep a consistent framerate throughout, I lock it to whatever the highest FPS is I can and call it a day.
Is it really a big deal that this game can run at 60fps on 1080p? Given the fact that is a last year's game on a PS3, and it's just being converted (Port) on 1080p \ 60fps for a ps4? I mean, i'm playing on 1440p on these 2014 games, Thief - 80+ Fps Sniper Elite - 110+ Fps Grid Autosport - 160+ Fps WatchDogs - 80+ fps And all running at 1440p with no fps drop below 60 so far. Am anticipating for Far Cry 4, Assassin's Creed Unity, Battlefield Hardline to run on 1440p with 60fps gameplay. Funny though, these games that can run on 1440p on 60fps and above aren't hype and mentioned except for the Last Of Us.
Don't be an idiot it's not just higher res and FPS that this version has to offer. Oh I forgot you just being jealous...
Chill man, why being so aggressive? LOL! well...u said it doesn't just offer new graphics and fps...So does it offer a new gameplay, animations and physics? Care to go into details? Like what's the shadow resolution? What type of Ambience Occlusion that use? HDAO? SSAO? HBAO? and what about Anistropic? Anti Aliasing? Well if you know what these all means, then maybe I am the idiot..well..i owned the LAst of us on PS3 as well..so I don't think am jealous...LOL!
Why´d you play it on PS3? U have a super computer to play on. Like every other person on N4G that feels compelled to take their time and comment on a system they feel is inferior. Why is PC people so insecure? I see this on nearly every PSXBOX article. And its funny that (acc to steam, 3-5% have a super high end computer) all that owns a computer with multiple high end graf cards all live on N4G.
I owned both systems, and also xbox 360. and I played on both consoles and PC depending on the games, just that I noticed there's too much ongoing articles about Last Of Us Remastered, and the only thing that stands out about it is the 1080p and 60fps, and it's a last year game. So is it really an achievement or like a "Trophy" to earn a 1080p and 60fps for a last year's game? I just felt Sony is trying to eat out our money...by selling this Hot Title.. it doesn't only cost 50 bucks, but it also cost 50GB of HDD..Unless there is a new gameplay, new weapon sound, alternative path and ending, maybe that is a game changer..anyway, enjoy the 1080p \ 60fps gameplay... will consider this when the price drops to $10. I think it's better if new games run on 60fps and 1080p on a PS4.. games like Far Cry 4, Assassin's Creed Unity and the upcoming Batman.. Unfortunately it's a last gen game, so therefore I don't really think it's a big of a deal...
You are completely missing the point. We're talking about a console game here. Everyone who buys TLOU remastered will be playing the game in 1080p at 60fps. Of course we won't see articles like that for PC games because it depends on the setup you're playing it on.
Maybe it's because all the games you listed suck? Watchdogs is the only decent game you listed and it was a huge disappointment, both graphically and gameplay. The other games you listed are laughable compared to TLOU. TLOU looks better than every game you listed even running on last gen tech. I'd pick TLOU running 720p/30fps than literally every game you listed.
You somehow tried to intwine personal opinion into a statement addressing nothing but overall performance of titles. There's no point made here and the joke is the attempt itself. Secondly, those games do all indeed look better than the Last of Us. The Last of Us is the pinnacle of what can be done with last generation hardware, but that is it. While it's hard to compare a racing game, both Thief and Snipe Elite certainly trump the Last of Us. To believe so only has me question your eyesight. Much as I do your debating skills at the moment.
OK. Agreed, but you must know you are deliberately pissing other people off with the way you wrote it :P Now, most peoples TV's are 1080p max so games are not going to aim for higher than that. Also like to point out that we are over half a year in and it has proven that 1080p/60fps is not the standard we are getting. So running something at a stable 60fps is something to be happy about for console gamers. Now you point out that you reach 60+++ FPS so you clearly know how important a framerate is and 1080p/60fps is something that should be cheered for and made standard. What I am saying is that it is not a big deal for a PS3 game to be running 1080p/60fps but it is a standard that every other dev should be aiming for and anything less for an old game is ridiculous. @good-ssmurf you sound like such a jealous kid. This game is about higher res and framerate, it probably has higher polygon models aswell but as we all know 1080p/60fps is just a simple benchmark we can state with minimal words. You just sound jealous that the original poster has a PC that can easily surpass 1080p/60fps.
The more they say and reveal the more it's looking like it's going to be around 60fps
Ok then i'll take that bet. Super Mario 3D World.... beter than that. it rarely drops a single frame. What I find really confusing though is that if the frame rate is so rock solid why the option to lock it at 30?
im buying this regardless of the frame rates.. Either way, its the definitive version of this title & i dont own the PS3 ver anymore so ill get this.. I never played the DLC either so its going to be a nice treat for me.. This game is going to open the path for them to make a sequel & or make uncharted look/play better... They get their feet wet developing this so they know what to do with the next game
