Dang, those are quite pretty. It'd be awesome if the followup looked like this. :)

Magicite4011d ago

Too bad default NPC models are ugly as hell.

randomass1714011d ago

Yeah I know what you mean. I've been playing Oblivion on a friend's 360 and the NPCs are very unsightly.

Bimkoblerutso4011d ago

To be perfectly honest, I don't like the modded models either.

I wish there were some modded models that preserved the game's context, but more often than not it's just...waifu overload.

randomass1714011d ago

Not sure what you mean. The style in these modded characters seems more western than eastern.

kingdom184011d ago

@Bimkoblerutso

Look up the XCE mod on Nexus, cleans up the NPC's quite a bit imo without over doing it.

what i hate about Skyrim is the game play in 3rd person i cant play it for that reason

i hope they make game play very good in the next Skyrim title .

for example look to kingdom of amalur game play its really good .

nitus104011d ago

"what i hate about Skyrim is the game play in 3rd person i cant play it for that reason"

What you have said is just wrong. You can play Skyrim and also Oblivion in either first or third person perspective (the default is "first"). In fact you can switch almost instantaneously between both perspectives.

I personally prefer third person especially when fighting, however it is also very useful to switch to first person when examining things or in narrow pathways when the chance of a rear attacks is minimal.

threefootwang4010d ago

Elder Scroll games were MEANT to be played in first person. Nuff said.

* After mods are introduced.

MysticStrummer4011d ago (Edited 4011d ago )

They need to improve AI more than graphics imo, along with their bug control measures.

ATi_Elite4011d ago

Hopefully you have the ELITE Superior version of Skyrim (The PC version of course) because if you do then here is a nice little mod that makes the NPC and Enemy A.i. a whole lot more challenging.

http://erkeilmods.altervist...

or cherry pick from one of these

http://www.nexusmods.com/sk...

many of these mods can work in combination to make Skyrim A.I. and Dragon A.i very BRUTAL!

Enjoy

MysticStrummer4011d ago

Yeah I know there are many cool mods for ES games, but I was talking about Bethesda improving some things themselves.

I see the headline and look at the improved character models, then picture those nice looking NPCs acting every bit as boneheaded as they usually do in the default version of these games.

Thanks though. : )

AndrewLB4010d ago

MysticStrummer- Regardless of how much time and effort Bethesda or any developer puts into a game, the modding community will ALWAYS figure out ways to improve upon it. Considering the size and scope of these Elder Scrolls games, I'm amazed that even with their fairly large development team that they're able to release games of this caliber so frequently.

clmstr4011d ago

It's truly awesome to witness how the Skyrim modding community pushes that old-ass engine to its limits.

F4sterTh4nFTL4011d ago (Edited 4011d ago )

Engines are irrelevant when when you basically have PCs equivalent to 90s supercomputers running these games, muscling through any poor optimizations in the code.

duplissi4010d ago

90s? try early 2000s super computers. My current computer is more powerful than all of the top 500 super computers in the world from 2004.

I think you underestimate moores law.

AndrewLB4010d ago

Hehe. Yea. I can't get over what they've been able to squeeze out of ancient DirectX 9.

Moncole4011d ago

You will be really disappointed if you expect it to look like this.

Eldyraen4011d ago

I sort of agree but I expect the next ES game to have a lot of textures/models more on par with modded Skyrim level than vanilla except better in many regards.

Sort of like the SMIM mod on steroids as will help lesson some of the ugly, blocky polygon counts on some things which really stood out (rocks are still the most standout and stupid looking part of Skyrim imo as modding their mesh basically would require a huge overhaul of their placement in the world and everything they affect--grass mods can help hide them though at least from a distance).

The lighting/weather/etc system should be better as well which will make a huge difference since Skyrim's default lighting was rather me "meh" (but still pretty nice for its time just under utilized/optomized for PC--having the option to enable so much through ini helped a lot but think of what it could had been like if the entire game was actually designed with those options being activated in mind--would help solve some of the more annoying ENB quirks for one, especially if you consider earlier ENB versions).

However as all of these screenshots are heavilty modded in several ways (ENB, models, textures, lighting, etc) I don't really expect the next ES game to look quite as good consistantly but at its best it should be achievable (sort of how under different weathers Watch Dogs looks fantastic). There will be some things though which 'fix' a lot of ES's worst aspects though as a few more polygons here and there go a long way in making things look better and texture increases will be a must anyways by time the new ES game rolls around (I would like 1k, 2k, 4k texture resolutions for PC being pretty standard depending on the object).

AndrewLB4010d ago

Why? Look at modded Oblivion and then vanilla Skyrim. Last I checked, Skyrim blows any version of Oblivion away.

Expect the same to happen with Elder Scrolls VI: "omitted".

You'll just have to wait to know the name of what's being worked on.

MS could compress their games on disc

raWfodog37d ago (Edited 37d ago )

Skyrim is still my favorite ES game. I’m playing through it again right now since I never finished it.

jznrpg26d ago

Morrowind is by far my favorite. But I’m getting old and played Daggerfall Morrowind and Oblivion before Skyrim

ActualWhiteMan36d ago

Yeah totally. Definitely won’t be hacking it Nintendo 🤞🏻

Fallout and Skyrim show us that talented developers make great games when you leave them alone

That judicious lack of oversight permeated everything in Bethesda's RPGs, in a positive fashion.

Christopher66d ago

I much prefer a left alone Obsidian and Larian Studios. Bethesda's formula has grown old for me.

anast64d ago

Larian hit another level with DOS:2 and then took it even further with BG3. They do high quality work.

jznrpg65d ago (Edited 65d ago )

Skyrim was a letdown compared to previous games and so was Fallout 4

Kosic64d ago

I agree, I found it an interesting game. But nowhere near worth the hype (unless you include mods)

dmonee65d ago

Skyrim blew my mind when it released. That game took me to the gaming, promisedland. Going back to it when it was updated for the PS5, it felt slightly rough around the edges, but great for its time

TheColbertinator64d ago

We should leave Obsidian alone. Bethesda on the other hand should be kept under constant psychiatric observation.

anast64d ago

Skyrim feels like the game was made in a hurry with a disorganized team.
