I'm still unsure about celebrity voice overs.

HighResHero3962d ago

Same here. I have my doubts about "Hollywood" and the games industry mixing. But as was stated by porkChop he's probably a real gamer. Really depends on the situation I guess.

randomass1713962d ago

It's better when celebrities are used in moderation, if at all. Uncharted and The Last of Us is proof that you don't need celebrities to carry your game's narrative.

porkChop3962d ago (Edited 3962d ago )

He was great in Mass Effect 3 and he's always been a huge gamer. RPGs are his favorites. With him you're at least guaranteed he'll take the role seriously instead of just phoning in a performance.

Christopher3962d ago

This. I still remember getting kicked out of the EQ2 booth at E3 because Sony wanted to give him a private showing of the game, though. But, yeah, he's a person who loves to game and doesn't make it a part of him to win gamers over. He just likes it and he really loves BioWare games. So, can definitely see when they ask him to do something, he would fall over himself to do it.

guitarded773962d ago (Edited 3962d ago )

Don't worry, he's no longer a celebrity :D

I kid... I kid... He get's props for putting it on Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Godmars2903962d ago

I'm sure about them: they generally lack experience as VA's, have little to no range and are often a resource drain on production. They also, for being hired to draw in new "gamers", they really don't do their job.

Ripco_Keller3962d ago (Edited 3962d ago )

Often, I'm happy with it if they pick a celebrity because they want the celeb's voice and performance (Patrick Stewart, Liam Neeson, Martin Sheen, Tim Curry, Gary Oldman).

I'm happily surprised when they pick a celebrity because that celeb actually has the ability to give unique voices to different characters (Mark Hamill).

It's nice to hear when a celeb is just excited about the project because they are a gamer (Matthew Perry, Vin Diesel, Freddie Prince Jr.). But it gets shaky when they are just exploring different acting opportunities (Ellen Page) or, worst case scenario, they're just interested in the paycheck.

All that said, from the snippets I've heard so far, Freddie is doing a good job giving the Iron Bull a voice of his own and injecting it with personality, and he really comes across as a big gamer who is very knowledgeable and excited about the game and the role.

Been playing Elder Scrolls IV on my buddy's 360 and hearing Sean Bean in it was a welcome surprise. I like it a lot more when I don't know about the talent ahead of time. Makes discovering them more fulfilling. :)

Mr Tretton3962d ago

uh, someone doesn't need to be a gamer to do voice acting. What would that have to do with anything?

NegativeCreep4273962d ago (Edited 3962d ago )

Right. It's just like no one has to be a good actor to be in a movie. What would that have to do with anything???

randomass1713962d ago

Not the same thing dude. Being a fan and having talent are separate things.

LAWSON723962d ago

I think I just lost brain cells.

zeuanimals3961d ago

Gamers are fans of games, actors partake in the creation of film and TV. You're making a bad comparison.

You can argue that some gamers develop games and are voice actors in games, but most gamers will never be a part of a video game's development while almost all actors strive to be in movies.

A more apt comparison would be voice actors to actors.

And you don't have to be a good actor to be in a movie, though I'd highly recommend being a good actor if you want to be in more than just your own movies, just ask Tommy Wiseau.

Gribbles3962d ago (Edited 3962d ago )

So some washed-up has-been actor no one cares about is voicing a character no one cares about.

How apropos.

ironfist923961d ago

Bioware must really love him. I enjoyed his character in ME3 and the Paragon Lost film. Tough guy, funny, but has alot of heart.

SaveFerris3961d ago

Yeah. I think he did a pretty good job voicing Vega.

Off topic. That t-shirt looks like the renegade symbol from ME3

ironfist923961d ago

It is the renegade symbol

Gezmoyassine3961d ago

He hasn't been acting much for a while now.He needs to get himself a new agent.

Deep-throat3961d ago

He's too old for another high school/college movies :p

Dragon Age: Inquisition Retro Review – A Nostalgic Leap Short Of Legendary

Dragon Age: Inquisition, developed by BioWare, is the third installment in the cherished Dragon Age series. It represents a major evolution from its predecessor, Dragon Age II, incorporating elements that were well-loved in the original Dragon Age: Origins but also introducing new features that stand on their own. While Inquisition improves upon Dragon Age II in many respects, it falls short of the exceptional standards set by Origins.

The quality of these free games has been awesome. Before anyone says they are not free I was already giving Amazon $6 a month for prime shipping and video this isn't why I pay for my subscription

Teflon021274d ago

Still technically paying for it, even if it wasn't your intent. They've been giving out games with Twitch prime, they just changed the name. It's the same sub as that was. If you weren't aware, great. But you're paying for it.

That being said, I don't personally care. For me as long as you're willing to pay that for 1 service and get more. I personally take it as free. Like prime video, music though the prime version is trash, and all the Twitch benefits are all free to me because I didn't care about those when I got it. Just comes with it.

Only noted because that's technically wrong as a defense to that argument, whether I'm on yourside with the initial statement lol

mkis0071274d ago

It's free to anyone who has already been paying. IDK why people need to split hairs.

TinkerNation1274d ago

How does Prime Gaming work? Do you keep the games, or is it only as long as you have Prime?

Germaximus1274d ago

lol Nice distraction from how they're now charging people to increase viewership. It's "just an option." /wink lol

NautilusXIII1274d ago

gonna assume this is pc only?
