I wonder if Destiny can become a bigger franchise than Halo, I mean it's on multiple platforms but will it have the same magic sauce? I definately hope so.

FanboyKilla3601d ago

Well they failed. All i can think of is halo when i see it.

mixelon3600d ago

All I can think of is marathon when I look at Halo. :P

Bungie have a style.

denawayne3601d ago

Yeah, it looks nothing like Halo......

Multiplatguy3601d ago

It's not identical but you would be blind to say there isn't a lot of similarities from the design of weapons, world design and even the animations used.

Heck you even have your own 343 Guilty Spark following you in this one as well.

It's not a bad thing, but it's silly trying to deny it.

GameSpawn3601d ago

Yep. That's the feeling I got playing the Alpha.

Also the shield/health mechanics feel very much like Halo's, but the weapons are definitely the most apparent - not necessarily a bad thing.

The game has some potential to be pretty good. It's currently Alpha, so a good chunk of the game could change before final release but at least the core concept of an open world RPG shooter, ala Borderlands-esk, is pretty solid.

I'm much more likely to pick this game up after my experience with the Alpha. Hell just five minutes in I was sold on the open world idea and had no issues adapting to the controls (also very similar to Halo).

I thought the sarcasm was evident

It has a Halo feel to it...

If you have played the Alpha, the game engine has a Halo feel to it. The more I played, the more I felt, this is just as much Halo as it is Destiny.

That is not a bad thing.

LAWSON723601d ago

If I recall it runs on a modified Halo Reach engine

Nolando3601d ago

It seems to handle like Halo, shoot like borderlands/halo, and special abilities like mass effect... did I miss anything?

It has a unique look that's for sure. cant wait to play it.

MassOnesumis3601d ago

It plays like Halo/Borderlands but the Phantasy Star Online elements combined with the PvP and the Mystical Sci-Fi parts give it a unique feel.

It also helps to have good voice Actors Lance Reddick (Killzone ShadowFall, The Wire) Shohreh Aghdashloo(Mass Effect) and I think I heard Nathan Fillion and Simon Templeman.

Shinuz3601d ago

I too got a phantasy star online vibe from playing the "alpha".

SITH3601d ago (Edited 3601d ago )

From what I saw, that is what I was reminded of. I loved phantasy star online. It was the second MMO game I played on a console.

That's extremely low for microtransactions, especially for a game that's essentially designed around it

LucasRuinedChildhood334d ago (Edited 334d ago )

This was back when the game wasn't free to play.

The figures are from November 2017 to February 2019 (1 year and 4 months).

Based on that projection, the MTX revenue for Destiny 2 likely would have been closer to ~$240m for 2 years.

Not sure if premium expansions are included in that figure either although ... I'd hope that they are though and that most of the revenue was for actual content like Forsaken.

People spend way too much money on cosmetics.

Rude-ro334d ago (Edited 334d ago )

Seasons($10 and just got bumped to $12) and dungeon keys($10 each, two a year) are through the eververse(micro transaction) store.
So for those two years, in order to play a season, you would pay through micro transactions.

Sonic1881334d ago (Edited 334d ago )

Bungie Marathon will be worse since it's designed around it as well

Kurt Russell333d ago

It makes me sad to agree... but at the same time I am looking forward to giving it a go. Destiny 2 is so far in, I find it difficult to figure out what I am meant to do first.

buffig334d ago

I think FIFA alone makes over $1bn a year from mtx

anast334d ago

FIFA promotes a worldwide sport. It should make more money than destiny.

CantThinkOfAUsername334d ago (Edited 334d ago )

Let's compare something similar. Apex Legends and its ridiculous $18/$40 skins make EA a billion each year.

z2g334d ago

For as much as ppl complain how much they hate microtransactions, they sure don’t act like it. No wonder they aren’t going anywhere.

spicelicka334d ago

By "people" you're referring to millions and millions of people. Obviously the ones complaining aren't necessarily the same as the ones spending all that money.

There's millions that purchase MTX and there's nothing we can do about it

I've been thinking about playing through D1 again before it goes away...

CobraKai485d ago

That’s the sad reality of a game like this. I bought it, invested lots of money, and it can go away at anytime. I still think this was more fun than 2.

jeromeface484d ago

prob because 2 is a grindfest slog

spoonard482d ago

That's the bummer of 'games as a service'.
