Everything Wrong With Titanfall

Whilst Mark Kerry may be a massive fan of Respawn Gaming's Titanfall, he can't help but see some deep flaws and discusses what's wrong with Titanfall

I love this game, but I do agree that it has a few areas that need work. Hopefully these will come via updates and the game will evolve in to something that offers a more complete MP experience.

Although I would like to see more Titan models, I am pretty happy with the Ogre setup I have. Once you unlock all the weapons and perks, it's a pretty satisfying Titan to use.

I'd like to see a bit more variation on the map design as they all seem very similar to me, but as I said before, I'm sure we will get plenty more maps in future.

Blaze9294083d ago

Only thing id say is it needs more. I'm seeing lvl 50s like it's the norm already - unlocks come quick - not enough variety. More modes, maps, weapons (definitely weapons), titans, everything.

Ritsujun4083d ago

Aww... it's okay, MS. Don't give up!!

n4rc4083d ago

Lvl 50 is the norm.. Regen is the challenge..

Some games like bf don't use a prestige system and the XP requirements for max level are insane.

Just a different way to go about it

Tho I do agree it could use more variety.. Like anything else.. But they have said new titans aren't likely and they are hard to balance

it seriously doesnt take very long to reach level 50 in this game. I havent played this game in 2-3 weeks and im well on my way to gen 4. Well i do agree that it does lack variety in the weapon selection. I also think it just goes to show all the bloat in games like bf4 or cod

I personally would like a spider type titan that can climb buildings and run sideways along them.

FrugalDaz4083d ago

That would be amazing! We need this!

shinrock4082d ago

Wow!!!!!!! I love that idea! You submit that to respawn.

JeffGUNZ4082d ago

The problem with that is balancing. What else can they add that won't alter the balance of the game? I have no problem with the titans, it really comes down to skill and talent while you're in the cockpit. I have seen stryders take down Ogre titans with ease.

WickedLester4083d ago

I want a story-driven single player campaign mode.

I want more customization of my titan (I'm talking "Forza" level of customization with decals, paint jobs, etc)

I want an "arena" battle mode where it's just you and another titan mono-a-mono.

I want transformable titans where they can turn into military type vehicles on the fly and back to titans.

He forgot one major flaw and it should be number one.

1. Titanfall is not on the PS4.

ghostface94082d ago

I guess you missed the article where sony refused to help fund this game and x1 did so they got the right to it

miyamoto4082d ago (Edited 4082d ago )

Solution: An even better, bigger, balanced, block buster, bull HD 1080p 60fps Titanfall2 for PS4 is already in the works.

Consider this the first trial beta experimentation prototype.

ovnipc4082d ago

I love this game. But it needs more weapons, a pilots only mode, and change that the kick kills from one hit, I understand if you get hit from the back but from the front no that BS, same BS as panic knife on COD.

PRock104082d ago

I've never been one for needing more than a couple of modes as that's all I ever play but totally understand others wanting alot of variety and TF is lacking a little there. I mainly just want more weapons and customization for my Titan and pilot, even if just some cosmetic stuff. But I'm with you on loving this game. I bought an X1 just bc of the bundle and I had a big discount scratch-off and have ZERO regrets. I am a BF guy and can't stand COD but there's something about this game. It took the best parts of COD and did something different. Overall, there are a ton of things about the X1 to love, just like my PS4.

And for the people who keep trashing on the resolution, yeah, it's disappointing more games aren't hitting the 1080p mark but to be honest, I'm too damn busy having fun with this game then to worry about every pixel. You're missing out not being able to look past the finer details.

The lack of weapons is odd. That and it wasn't as fun as I was expecting.

It's a solid game though, I just wanted more from it.

I like Titanfall, but it's the Chinese food of gaming. I'm left feeling empty and wanting to stuff myself with something more.

We heard for years that the guys that became Respawn wanted to make a sci-Fi shooter, so it's safe to say that Titanfall was that idea. But why does it lack so much in the way of depth, features, modes and more?

I like it! Smooth as butter on the PC and plays great, but it all feels so shallow.

GarrusVakarian4083d ago

Completely agree. I have just over 20 hours on Titanfall so far and i can already feel myself starting to get a little bored....well, not exactly bored, but 'used' to it, the initial hype/addiction is starting to wear off. Whereas on BF4 i have around 140 hours played and im about to play it some more.

It just seems like it's lacking depth and some substance. I know they will rectify some of my issues via updates, but here's hoping the next game is more fleshed out.

kevinsheeks4082d ago

I agree it feels lacking in the challenges are so stupiddd it does the opposite it because it's so drawn out instead of being a way to make you test new weapons it forces you into hours of using something you hate

T24082d ago

its hard to compete with a game that has tanks, jets, choppers, jeeps, atv, etc... just too much to do...
BUT having said that, no premium unless dice actually fixes their game.

Blaze9294083d ago

Chinese food of gaming. Lmfao +bubbles for such a great analogy

TitanUp4083d ago (Edited 4083d ago )

ea was probably trying to rush it. either way its a fun game but a game i wouldnt be able to set and play for hours.

WickedLester4083d ago

What was the last game EA DIDN'T try to rush to market?

kayoss4083d ago

@wickedLester
I totally agree with your statement. Its only surprising if EA didnt rush a game. Thats should be breaking news material.

"EA, will not release Battlefield 5 until it is really really ready to be release"

Suddenly I see pigs flying

karlosmorale4083d ago

I wish I even gave one fuck about Titanfall. I was swept up in the pre-release hype, but didn't end up picking up the game. Now I doubt I ever will. It seems to have dropped off the gaming map really quickly; from what I gather the lack of full single player experience seems to have hurt it.

Kiwi664083d ago

well if you didn't get the game why are you complaining about it

Perjoss4083d ago

Nice Target Renegade profile pic :)

Dutch15854083d ago (Edited 4083d ago )

I am waiting for the price to come down before I get it for PC....I have read all about the lack of depth and it has put me off playing it.

You would expect more multiplayer options for an online only game surely?

candy_mafia4083d ago (Edited 4083d ago )

Titanfall is great, and is evolving into an awesome game! For those disappointed with lack of modes/story....Respawn can/will shoehorn stuff in as and when.

Okies, so a separate SP would be cool, but does TF really need a full SP mode? Infamous doesn't need MP either.

Some folks can never be happy, always looking for the next big complaint ;/ Anyways, TF is superfun IMO :)

DARK WITNESS4083d ago

Thats kind of the whole problem..

I can't speak for everyone but I know a few gamers (myself included) are getting a bit tired of content being "hoehorned" into stuff.

It always comes out feeling lazy, halfarsed and still does not add any real value.

If the game is suppose to be MP focused then they may as well put 100% in MP and leave off the story, in the same way that Infamous focused on story and left off MP.

IMO, they have should just focused on MP only, more Titans, weapons, maps, customization, game modes etc.

I played it for about 2 days and went back other stuff. It it's current state it really does nothing for me.

CorndogBurglar4083d ago

Yeah. You never want to "hoehorn" things.

Who wants the reputation of being a dirty, filthy "hoehorner"?

DARK WITNESS4078d ago

lol....well you got to admit it is a little slutty

FriedGoat4082d ago (Edited 4082d ago )

It's not that it NEEDS a single player, its that the multiplayer is not strong enough to condone not having one.

I've been playing games for over 25 years, in that time i've played a lot of shooters.

Quake 3 was multiplayer only (besides bots) back in 1999 but that game was just so perfect. Precision, speed, movement everything about it, the fact it didn't have a real singleplayer didn't matter and that was even before broadband.

Unfortunately Titanfall is nowhere near as strong a shooter as that. It seems to be an average game with no real direction from the 20 - 30 or so hours I could stand to play of it.

Although the late 2000s Turok wasn't my favorite, I would love a new entry. Open world survival with shotguns and dinosaurs. Not sure how we'd get the fusion cannon, but that would be pretty sweet too.

MadLad1015d ago

Lol

All of these games are pretty much universally praised. Outside of Timeshift I literally own all of these.

Venoxn4g1015d ago (Edited 1015d ago )

XIII, The Darkness 2, Far Cry: Blood Dragon, Timesplitters: future perfect, Bulletstorm are awesome games

I played them all, they are all good in their own way
I used to be obsessed with FPS games

An ode to Titanfall: The last twitch shooter I'll probably ever enjoy

Windows Central: "Titanfall 1 is being sunset, taken off storefronts by EA. While the servers remain live for now, one has to wonder just how much time it has left. I look back and pay tribute to the last "twitch"-styled shooter I ever truly loved."
