Today Respawn Entertainment held a panel at PAX East, and quite a few interesting details were revealed about Titanfall before it was Titanfall.

I would still like to see them add a single player component in the future. The Multiplayer doesn't really stop the mechanics from working in Single Player.

Pandamobile4089d ago

The speed at which you move in Titan Fall is not conducive to a carefully paced single player campaign. How do you design a single player game where the player is constantly moving at 30+ MPH?

GarrusVakarian4089d ago (Edited 4089d ago )

I'll engage my over-active imagination and think of how it could be done.....

Maybe you could have a squad of pilots travel all over a star system to different planets to carry out certain objectives against other pilots and....

...oh wait, im describing the multiplayer.

I don't think SP would work with this game.

randomass1714089d ago

It would take something very clever. Titanfall is multiplayer-centric, so they would have to generate brand new maps to accommodate a proper single player experience.

ELpork4089d ago

Yea, this teams never made a game before...

spicelicka4089d ago

It's definitely possible, the single payer doesn't have to play like multiplayer. They could make the levels more sandbox style like halo, they already have bots so it can't be that hard to incorporate that style of play into a campaign.

They could find some way to string together maps that feel like multipayer maps on their own. Then have segments which don't necessarily require you jumping around constantly at 30 mph. Imagine fighting those giant Goliath monsters in your mech, along with 3 of your buddies in co-op.

It's an FPS game, there's no way they can't create a campaign out of it. I'm sure they excluded it because of the time constraints or other limitations. They just have to have it for the sequel!

InTheLab4089d ago

Check out Starhawk. It can be done.

DragonKnight4089d ago

Are you serious? Have you played very many mech games Panda? Geez, just make Zone of the Enders first person and there's your Titanfall singleplayer game.

Pandamobile4088d ago

Yeah, it's easy armchair game designers to say "Oh yeah, just make it like this and it'll be good".

I'm not saying that it's impossible, I'm saying that in reality, designing a game that takes the chaotic, break-neck pace of the multiplayer and boils it down into a compelling, well-constructed single player experience would be remarkably difficult for a team of Respawn's size.

792p and no single player campaign is part of the reason that some XB one owners felt it had less vfm then Call of Duty Ghosts.

Lilrizky4089d ago (Edited 4089d ago )

I would love an open world RPG fallout type game with the wall-jump parkour elements of Titanfall.

That would be awesome!

Also titans would make for some diverse gameplay and puzzle elements (like the very simple on in the tutorial but more complex) But again, they'll have to find a way to balance the periods where you can be a pilot or a titan.

xX1NORM1Xx4088d ago

I really like the idea of titanfall and as much as I love the multiplayer I wanna know more about the universe and characters

Mankey4089d ago

It would certainly need to involve some well made AI.

randomass1714089d ago

Or could be a cooperative campaign a la Halo.

MysticStrummer4089d ago (Edited 4089d ago )

"It would certainly need to involve some well made AI"

With the existing AI it could have been the first casual stealth game.

jay24089d ago

It's stupid there's no single player. Don't like MP only games, I want a story when I play, not the same 14 maps with different people all the time.

BEASELY4089d ago

Then play a different game, simple.

spicelicka4089d ago

No not that simple. Some people maybe find the gameplay refreshing and the world intriguing more than other games on the market. Even if they play different games, it doesn't mean they don't want Titanfall to have a campaign, and unless there's a perfect substitute different game is just a different game.

BEASELY4089d ago

A campaign doesn't even fit Titanfall's gameplay, and those who have never played it just will not understand that until they see for themselves what it's about.

ic3fir34089d ago

but the game have a story =D
and maps are 15, not 14

k3rn3ll4089d ago

Wow ur mad.
do you get mad at mmo's for being online only too? Serious question

So basically they already made the SP but took it out on purpose therefore released an incomplete game.

Lilrizky4089d ago

No that isn't always the case. Irrational experimented with MP in Infinite, but didn't think it fit within the world, mechanics or they didn't think it was good enough.

Developers experiment with a lot of stuff you'll never ever hear about. Which means your claiming that every single game is incomplete.

jhoward5854089d ago (Edited 4089d ago )

I wouldn't say every game are incomplete...

First of all, adding campaign/single player to FPS has become the norm in the gaming industry. Its a common practice that all industry follow.
They copy each other. So, with that said, it wouldn't make much sense for respwan not to add campaign/single player mode to TF. Not doing so, would be risky business.

Another clue, when TF was first introduced it had a great storyline which gave me the impression that respwan wanted to add a full campaign campaign/single player mode(not partial) to TF.

to make a long story short.

I'm not gonna to get too technical with you... people repeat patterns daily. Some are big and some are small.

MS release KI when it wasn't completed. No problem we'll add the rest later. I think that what happened to TF. MS was in a big hurry to get TF out and respwan didn't have enough time. So they had to take some things out to meet the MS's deadline.

Sony are not doing the same thing. They rather wait until a game is fully completed before releasing it. The draw back is we have to wait longer which is something I'm ok with.

k3rn3ll4089d ago

Im not so sure MS was too involved kn that decision n just seems unlikely to me. Especially since we knew there wasnt a true campaignnearly a year before the game came out. They could have gone and got more money from MS or EA to hire more and get a SO done. Especially since now we know they already had the ground work for it done

jhoward5854089d ago (Edited 4089d ago )

@k3rn3ll

Adding TF storyline to their first trailer wouldn't make any sense if respwan wanted TF to be full multi-play game only.

The campaign mode TF now has doesn't have anything to do with the TF original storyline.

And yes respwan could have gone and got more money from MS or EA to hire more talents.

But that takes time to do. One, because talents are hard to find. Two, most devs have their own personal deadline when they think their game should be completed. but unfortunately some dev never meet their deadline. Moving forward....

So, when a big company as such as MS come in and offer them money that company would likely have their own deadline in mind as well. But I asked you this, which deadline you think respwan will go with? MS of course. they pay their bills.

DefenderOfDoom24088d ago

To linchpid , i think the article said they were talking about making a campaign for TITANFALL not that they made a campaign! to "elpork" you are somewhat right , this is the studio`s first game. But RESPAWN is made from some of the core developers from "INFINTY WARD", who made the second MEDAL OF HONOR campaign , and then went on to start CALL of DUTY franchise, the last game these guys and ladies worked under INFINITY WARD with the current RESPAWN developers was CALL OF DUTY:MODERN WARFARE 2 . Then left INFINITY WARD in 2010 to start RESPAWN. So i guess my point is this is not RESPAWN`s first rodeo!

Activemessiah4088d ago

The whole thing feels disingenuous in terms of their approach, they know very well this was a massive risk, not only with online but also Microsoft exclusives... so far i feel none of the choices made are "good" for anyone... other than EA of course.

crusf4089d ago

*SP included in shooters that are MP based* "Who the hell decided to put SP in this game!"
*SP not included in shooter that is MP based*"Who the hell decided NOT to include SP in this game!"
I swear "gamers" are never satisfied these days!

giovonni4089d ago

Exactly, I like it the way it is, just give it a better story, being an online game gave it a different feel, and depending on who you play with changes the difficulty. I think they should add some meaningful objectives, and truly make it a team based game objective takes team members present to complete. Although some maps force you to be team based, like hard points. This game doesn't need a single player mode, it just needs a deeper story we have enough fps with single player modes. Create something different. This game is damned if it does damned if it don't.

I've played this game through and through, and it's a fantastic game the campaign needed work, but it wasn't hard to understand. Was it compelling, nope, but it is damn sure fun running up on a pilot that doesn't see you and you break his neck. Save me Giovonnikahdafi G2 level 3 or 4 something like that

k3rn3ll4089d ago

Completely agree with both of you all. Its a great game as is. Muff said

Although the late 2000s Turok wasn't my favorite, I would love a new entry. Open world survival with shotguns and dinosaurs. Not sure how we'd get the fusion cannon, but that would be pretty sweet too.

MadLad1017d ago

Lol

All of these games are pretty much universally praised. Outside of Timeshift I literally own all of these.

Venoxn4g1017d ago (Edited 1017d ago )

XIII, The Darkness 2, Far Cry: Blood Dragon, Timesplitters: future perfect, Bulletstorm are awesome games

I played them all, they are all good in their own way
I used to be obsessed with FPS games

An ode to Titanfall: The last twitch shooter I'll probably ever enjoy

Windows Central: "Titanfall 1 is being sunset, taken off storefronts by EA. While the servers remain live for now, one has to wonder just how much time it has left. I look back and pay tribute to the last "twitch"-styled shooter I ever truly loved."
