Lol, what are they thinking? Can someone explain to me why they would release on 3DS first knowing that the Wii U isn't doing so hot?

weekev154044d ago

Admitting defeat? Seems like a weird move to me. I really hope it's because they have a packed release schedule for WiiU in Summer. 3DS seems to get all the love.

voodoochild3464044d ago

Nintendo has some of the most idiotic decision making in the entire gaming industry. From the name confusion, to the ridiculously bad ad campaign and now this. If they wanted the wii u to pull a 3ds and recover they've certainly got me fooled. This is coming from a huge nintendo fan. SMH.

* Gives them more time to work on Wii U version = More polished game

* Gives each version their time to "shine".
- They each get a window to earn as much money as possible and sell without competing against one another.

* Releasing separate Highlights the differences between the two.

* Gets us more hyped for Smash Brothers Wii U, by giving us a nice taste of what we can expect on the console version.

* Unique stages so playing the Wii U version is a different experience

* Launching near the Holiday window will ensure maximum sales and marketing.

Not difficult to figure out

weekev154044d ago

Or you buy the 3ds version, play it to death and get fatigued. Tbh I have a 3DS and a WiiU but will be waiting on the WiiU version so I'm disproving my own point, but this could have been a system seller for wiiu without the 3ds version, which I think has been a mistake.

Hopefully MK8 and the ZeldaU reveal at e3 will sell enough units that the WiiU version will still be popular, but Im skeptical.

DC7774044d ago

With the bombardment from MS and Sony during the holidays we'll be lucky if anyone even knows it comes out. aka SM3DW.

3-4-54044d ago

I'm getting both versions.

* I'm going to refrain from using certain characters too much and have them be my Wii U versions characters so they feel fresh to me.

* New stages will help as well.

* I'll be used to playing an awesome game and then somehow a few months later it's going to be even more awesome and look even more beautiful. = Can't pass that up.

Slade234044d ago

I really don't know why. But if they deciding to do this, then Wii U version better include something more.

Summons754044d ago

No, have you not see the screens from the 3DS version? The game looks awful. Honestly it should have never been done in the first place and the only reason that it got green lit was because PASBR had the ps3/vita play together.

They probably realized people really only cared about the WiiU version and sent the 3DS into finalizing while they held the WiiU for more fine tuning and for one of their big holiday games. MK will help push WiiU during the summer and the Smash/Kart combo will really move units during the holidays plus whatever else they release this year.

They aren't admitting defeat, WiiU numbers have gone up steadily and will only continue going up. I'm guessing they are saving release dates for their E3 Direct.

live2play4044d ago

sure ill explain

nintendo never releases games BEFORE they are ready
nintendo will not RUSH games in order to get them out and have them filled with glitches

nintendo will release the game when its READY

one game releasing early or late WILL NOT kill or SAVE the wii u.

nintendo has survived on onlu first party games in the past and it can do so in the future DESPITE what many online articles tend to tell you, because as far as i know NON of them have a magical future telling crystal ball

Locknuts4044d ago

But would they delay a game (3DS version) to help their stuggling platform? That would make more sense to me.

Like if Titanfall released 6 months early on the 360. I would have said the same thing.

Definitely a disappointing and puzzling decision, but everything else about this direct was great. The online features sound like tons of fun. I'm even more hyped now.

edit: one thing i wasnt too fond of was ZSS's redesign. She looks a little too oversexualized. You could smother a man with those knockers.

DC7774044d ago

Wii U screwed again. Does he know there are only , at most, 11 days of winter in 2014?

JSDude14044d ago

It's not hard to figure out. They'll sell more units this way. How many of you would have bought (BOTH) versions if they released at the same time??

Now you'll get hyped up, buy the 3DS version, and then when the WiiU version comes out, you'll buy that too, because there will be a couple separate features, and you won't be able to not play Smash Wii U in HD on the big-screen with your friends. -JS

voodoochild3464044d ago

Or (and I don't understand why people don't get this) people who don't have either or people who have both will get the 3ds version since not only does it come out months prior to the wii u version, it also will likely be $20 cheaper. The fact is the majority of people who purchase games don't follow gaming sites to find out the differences and advantages the wii u version might have. They just see the "same" game with the same characters coming out months earlier for a cheaper system for a cheaper price.

andrewer4044d ago

I could wait years and would still freaking buy this, looking awesome, but don't have time to play now, so this news is actually good to me xD

To me smash brows Melee is my all time favorite. I can't tell you how many hours I played that game between friends and family. When I was a kid, my parents couldn't afford a gaming console so I had to go somewhere that had an arcade like setup with the only difference being instead of arcade cabinets, they had big screen crt TV's and gaming consoles setup. I would go with my friends on special occasions after school or with my family on the weekends.

I would meet and make new friends at that place as we were all gamers and we also brought our game boys and would trade pokemon. I don't think those places exist these days but back then, it was easy to meet like-minded people and have fun for hours.

franwex84d ago

Well, I’ll add my extremely subjective ranking too. I won’t include the 3DS version as I don’t owned it. I did play it for a few minutes though.

5. Brawl.
4. N64 Smash
3. Ultimate
2. Wiiu Smash
1. Melee

BlaqMagiq183d ago

Yup Ultimate for me BY FAR is my favorite.

Ten Overdue Fighters for Smash Bros.

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "While the future of Smash Bros. has been uncertain for a while - whether Nintendo will build on Ultimate or bring us a new entry entirely - within all likelihood a new Nintendo system still means something new for Smash Bros. is on the horizon, and that something will almost certainly include new fighters, however many or few. While this might be the gaming article equivalent of putting up Christmas decorations in October, it’s never too early to start speculations when it comes to Smash Bros. before two thirds of everything inevitably gets leaked ahead of time. Keep in mind that this is not a list of predictions for future newcomers, though a few could perhaps fit in that same category, but rather a small list of the characters that in this writer’s humble opinion are overdue an appearance in the gaming crossover to end all crossovers."

I feel bad for Smash fans. Those guys have been trying to maintain the scene active for 20+ years and get nothing but hate from Nintendo.

RoseSapphire714d ago

Sakurai explains how he and Nintendo still don't understand how the internet works.

FTFY

Snookies12714d ago

Exactly, online play would be wonderful on Smash if Nintendo gave a crap about their online services. To be fair though, Nintendo's online offerings would be great if it were 15-20 years ago lol.

jambola714d ago

I've always said that Nintendo is either innovative and ahead of the curve
or 20 years behind, no in between

CrimsonWing69714d ago

I’m sorry, but if a game is MP then there’s no f*cking argument that can justify no online MP. What he says about competition being different from just playing with friends shows me how out of touch these people are.

It’s not until a new generation that understands things steps in to clean-house that we’ll see some evolution here.

Vanfernal714d ago

His argument is nonsensical. "You'd be limited to just playing people from your region". As opposed to being limited to playing people FROM YOUR COUCH!

CrimsonWing69714d ago

What I don’t get is how do you not have competition and experience the same issue if you have a friend that’s way better than you?

GoodGuy09714d ago

It's a big fighting game so online multiplayer is a must. Competitive smash is the only thing I see fun in these games anymore asides from the big character reveals, singleplayer is laughable and you ain't gunna have people over for couch gaming much.

If Nintendo makes a new smash, it needs a huge evolution for singleplayer/couch play to be enjoyable for me any more. But we all know they'll just do a deluxe edition for their next console lol. They really need to up their servers as well.

NotoriousWhiz714d ago (Edited 714d ago )

I can't imagine Nintendo producing a better smash game than ultimate. Roll it forward with a deluxe edition maybe with an extra character or two and call it a day.

Some other developers can try pushing platform fighters to the next level, because I don't think Nintendo is up to the task.

DarthZoolu713d ago

They already created a better smash brothers game than ultimate when they created melee

masterfox714d ago

he sounds more like is trying to justify Nintendo ineptitude to create a proper network infrastructure in order to Smash Brothers work properly online.
