Titanfall Review | Game Debate

It’s not often that an FPS comes along that is capable of switching things up. Titanfall undoubtedly looked like a diamond in the rough. A rare beast steam-rollering in on the horizon, intent on flipping one of the most popular genres on its head. After what’s been close to a decade of annualised Call of Duty rehashes and countless has-beens, the time felt right for a new franchise to sweep a generation of gamers off their feet.
But, Titanfall is not everything you want it to be. And it’s certainly not the second coming of the First Person Shooter.

This is an advertisement for natural selection 2...he is saying we should all play that instead of titanfall...it's a superior version of this game and actually brings something new to the table...unlike titanfall which is a COD clone

PraxxtorCruel4099d ago (Edited 4099d ago )

There's always someone that has to do the exact opposite of the masses, and this guy is it. I don't have a problem with it, after all it's his opinion. He definitely speaks for the very small minority. No game is perfect. Even Last of US which is a GOTY winner I believe and probably regarded as the best game last gen wasn't loved by everyone.

Testfire4099d ago

It's funny, nowadays about a week after a popular 1st party game releases you start seeing websites with agendas come out with either perfect scores or crappy scores. Right now this is blatantly happening with Titanfall and Infamous.

QuickdrawMcgraw4099d ago

I don't understand why Xbox1 fanboys are upset with a 6.5/10 score for Titanfall...6.5/10 is a above average game...I guess here on N4Xbox it has to be 9's or 10's...

antz11044098d ago

Quickdraw,

To be fair Infamous fans are pissed SS is getting a medoicre review base. So its not just XOne, people like what they like and will defend it.

Plus when I hear 6.5 I think Deadpool: fun, very forgettable.

donscrillinger4099d ago (Edited 4099d ago )

quit hating ,cause off top it sounds like who ever wrote this is an X1 hater and mad that its not on the PieceofShyt 4 lol Titanfall is truly a phenomenal Game period on a really good system

Naga4099d ago (Edited 4099d ago )

You just told someone to "quit hating" and then, in the same sentence, barked out some tripe about "PieceofShyt 4".

Seriously, kid?

DeadRabbits4099d ago (Edited 4099d ago )

Xbone owners seem very defensive and insecure lately. Titanfall has failed to live up to expectations so they are moving from the Denial phase into the Anger phase of grief. Next will be Bargaining then Depression and finally Acceptance that they have been xboned hard!

Once complete they will then be able to trade in their xbones for ps4's........ then we shall embrace them with open arms.

Naga4099d ago (Edited 4099d ago )

@DeadRabbits

The thing is, I *am* an Xbox One owner... I just hate to see fanboys making a bad name for either side of the discussion. We should be championing the gaming experience in general, not making disparaging partisan remarks behind some mindless allegiance to a corporation.

Bernlock4099d ago

Failed to meet their expectations how? Do you know what they were? Do you know concrete sales numbers cause if you do we would all love to hear it

Silly Mammo4099d ago

Someone feeling a little insecure about this console choice?

Allsystemgamer4099d ago

You don't have to be an x1 hater to not like it. It's on PC...and 360....it's a GOOD game. Not great. I enjoyed the beta more than the full release to be honest. I was expecting more. But te beta summed up the whole game pretty much.

As for "pieceofshyte 4". Go ahead and knock a stronger system that sells more and has a larger fan base without a company having to constantly change their policies and needing constant price drops. Your precious x1s killer app "Titanfall" did not move systems like you fan boys predicted. It's also not a one exclusive and the PC version is far superior with better frame rates and incoming 4k support. And don't you dare say you need an expensive machine to run it cuz you don't. It runs on my 5 year old $900 desktop at max in 1080p. The x1 is weak. I'll get one after a decent price drop and when kinect goes away.

Now. Excuse me while I wait for my ps4 to arrive so I can play infamous right beside my PC ps3 360 and wii.

GW2124099d ago

I agree with pretty much everything you said. Here's where I come out, for what it's worth:

I have an XB1 and a PS4. For gaming, I strongly prefer the PS4. I like the controller better, I like the exclusives more, and, while I understand you can get better graphics on a PC, I do prefer the box that provides better graphics. Infamous blows anything on the XB1 away in terms of graphical fidelity. I am still shocked when I hear the little Xbox kids trying to say Ryse is still tops. No, it's not. KZ is better, Tomb Raider on PS4 is better and Infamous is in a different league altogether.

All of that said, the XB1 is a great multimedia machine. I actually find the Kinect fairly useful (I know, go figure) and like the user interface more. XBL is the more capable online experience and it just so happens that most of my "real-world" friends are on XBL. Further, I'm a Halo whore. Sue me.

To sum all of the above up, I have my XB1 hooked up to my living room TV and my PS4 hooked up to a gaming monitor with a gaming headset. That should tell you what you need to know.

Lastly, on Titanfall, I agree that it's a good game. But phenomenal? Eh. No.

Also, my PSN/XBL is GKW212. Add me.

GarrusVakarian4099d ago

"quit hating"

"sounds like who ever wrote this is an X1 hater"

"PieceofShyt 4"

Lmao. SMH.

xX-StolenSoul-Xx4099d ago (Edited 4099d ago )

I don't understand why if the review is negative for a platform exclusive the person who wrote it is called a "Hater" to each respected platform. Truth of the matter is everyone is entitled to their own opinions of each game they play. I'm not going to lie when I say I game on my Playstation mostly but it's not like i'm going to blindly give games I review good ratings just because it's a console exclusive, have you seen Knack? I would rate that a 5/10. I Respect each console for what it does. You commenting that just shows me some insecurity towards your platform more than anything else.

~I did not write the review was just making a point.

DafunkyRebel4099d ago (Edited 4099d ago )

Or maybe the truth is its a piece of shit and that you are a fanboy who can't accept the truth and overlook the game's flaws and horrendous designs.

ouch! why is the supposed next gen games not getting 10/10's?? i mean we were led to understand these machines were bringing something to the table that was not on offer with wiiu or older ps360! these scores are not good and begs the question what is next gen about xbone and ps4 to date?

Naga4099d ago

It is getting 10/10's. This just isn't one of them.

Allsystemgamer4099d ago

To me it seems a lot of the 10/10 came from hype. It looks awesome. It plays awesome BUT and this is a big BUT. There isn't enough content. Sure there is 15 maps but all the fighting ends up in the same spots each time. There's so few weapons to unlock the only guns people actually use is te CAR SMG, Shotgun, the assault rifle and new players use the smart pistol.

There isn't enough weapons and only 2 of the Titan weapons are actually useful the quad rocket and 40mm canon destroys competition in the right hands.

I loved Titanfall for the first few days and hit regeneration after 11 hours of play...then I literally was like...that's it? I regenerated and now I'm sitting at level 6.

Naga4099d ago (Edited 4099d ago )

@ Allsystemgamer

To an extent, I agree. I don't think it's quite a 10/10, though it is one of the most enjoyable FPS games I have experienced in many years. While I personally take issue mainly with the graphics and the weakly told campaign story. I can understand why people would allow the gameplay experience to trump those concerns.

When it comes to the relatively sparse selection of weapons and Titans, I have been able to accept that because they are well balanced and cover a broad spectrum of combat diversity - there are a lot of different ways you can fight effectively using just that handful of options. I liken it to what we got with classic games like Halo:CE or Gears of War, though I'm sure there are others. With those games, it was a matter of how you used what weapons you had, and the gameplay was so well executed that the weapon count really didn't detract from the experience. I think it's a similar case here.

And then on the regeneration, I am currently on the 4th Generation. However - and I don't know if you have discovered this - they include Regeneration Challenges that you have to complete in order to regenerate to the next level. I didn't figure that out until I was at Generation 2, level 46. And so I got stuck at 50 until I completed the weapon/item challenges. It adds a crazy loop to things, and definitely makes it take longer as you progress up through the generations. So if you feel like you regenerated the first time too easily, don't fret. It gets harder.

Allsystemgamer4099d ago (Edited 4099d ago )

@naga

All good points I just don't see a reason to go back to it. Every battle seems to play out exactly the same. I always do fairly well if not on top. There's not enough variety in the game modes either.

Also regarding gears and halo, yes there were small weapon counts but also had multiple games modes, an actual campaign, more to do than just shoot etc.

Halo especially had so many game modes and the ability to make your own it was almost impossible to get bored.

For me Titanfall is literally "join" "shoot" "call Titan" "shoot with Titan" "get to/shoot drops hip"

There isn't enough variety. When I play I only use the CAR because it's useful at all ranges. The lock on rocket does the most damage to a Titan. Yes it's balanced but a lot of the weapons are extremely outshone by others. Much like what happened to halo and the BR.

Don't get me wrong I like the game. I'm fact if you check my comment history I was praising it immensely. That is until I got the release version. I just got bored way too quickly.

Naga4099d ago

@ Allsystemgamer

Those are solid points. Perhaps I am satisfied by less, or perhaps the game tugs at my gaming heartstrings a little more effectively than in your case. Because I don't really dispute that there's not a lot of variety in the game modes... I mean, you bring up some solid points. One of the biggest things that has kept me going are the challenges (as required for regeneration) and alternating between Attrition and Last Titan Standing. Those two gametypes play almost like completely different games.

I don't know. I kind of settled into a particular loadout pretty quickly, as it seems you did. But I guess I'm just more satisfied by the variety within the means of the combat system itself, and all of the things I can do within a single match. I can't really disagree with you on any particular point, though.

How many 10/10's did XB360 & PS3 have 4 month's after releasing? Or any other console for that matter?

They will come out of nowhere. Some gaming sites/blogs have given 10/10's for games on PS4/XB1. Just not universally.

A 9.5/10 in my book. Great game.

TheFallenAngel4099d ago

Although the late 2000s Turok wasn't my favorite, I would love a new entry. Open world survival with shotguns and dinosaurs. Not sure how we'd get the fusion cannon, but that would be pretty sweet too.

MadLad1008d ago

Lol

All of these games are pretty much universally praised. Outside of Timeshift I literally own all of these.

Venoxn4g1008d ago (Edited 1008d ago )

XIII, The Darkness 2, Far Cry: Blood Dragon, Timesplitters: future perfect, Bulletstorm are awesome games

I played them all, they are all good in their own way

An ode to Titanfall: The last twitch shooter I'll probably ever enjoy

Windows Central: "Titanfall 1 is being sunset, taken off storefronts by EA. While the servers remain live for now, one has to wonder just how much time it has left. I look back and pay tribute to the last "twitch"-styled shooter I ever truly loved."
