4 Reasons Why inFAMOUS: Second Son is the First Truly Next-Gen Game

David Jagneaux from The Koalition writes: "Ever since the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One (okay, I guess the Wii U as well) were first announced, gamers were filled with mixed emotions. Yes, new games and new consoles are always exciting, no doubt, but when the majority of the games available are just rehashed versions of games that people can already play on their current systems, the excitement is hard to sustain. I was pretty vocal about the fact that I did not think either platform was worth buying at launch (and I think virtually all of my points were validated) but most of those concerns have been totally revoked now. The Xbox One has a great shooter than can't be found on the PS4 and the PS4 now has a decent small library of exclusives, indies, and quality third-party content. The crowning jewel of that library now, is of course, Sucker Punch's inFAMOUS: Second Son."

This is a good post about 4 reasons why Infam-ass is the first thing on the next things or something.

xHeavYx4050d ago

Stand up comedy doesn't seem to be your thing, better keep the DJ job, lol.

InFamous looks amazing, can't wait to get my new TV to play it

MrKennedy4050d ago

Stand up comedy? I was sitting when I wrote my comment. Tsisisisis

LUL!!! ouchy ouchy! XD

+1 heavy

While the game is fun and the AI is surprisingly good, it doesn't feel like a game that couldn't have been done on the PS3. Yes, I know the graphics; lighting facial, and particle effects are great. I wouldn't just go out and scream "now this is next-gen" much like TitanFall which in fact can be done on last gen system. I think our definitive next-gen games will really take hold over this coming holiday season.

jaggernaut254050d ago

I was inclined to agree with you before I played it. Besides the visuals, much of what is done in this game technically and with gameplay just isn't possible on the PS3. That's my two cents at least :)

fonger084050d ago (Edited 4050d ago )

Yeah I didn't do a good enough job explaining, that... technically it couldn't have been done on the PS3, the lighting, the detail, and the viewing distance alone would say that... It just doesn't quite wow me... The differences between Infamous 1 and 2, graphically were night and day... from 2 to 3 it just doesn't feel as noticable. That dark tunnel vision you get climbing buildings during the day is annoying...

Neonridr4050d ago

I've only begun to play the game, but from what I have seen it is very fun. Can't wait to expand my arsenal of powers..

I am sure the game could have existed on the PS3, but a lot would have changed in order to accommodate and who knows what the end result would have been. I am happy that the game could be delivered to us with no sacrifices.

weirdo4050d ago

I almost cancelled my order due to a few mediocre reviews - I'm so glad I bought it! having lots of fun, just got to the neon powers - the graphics are absolutely stunning :)

jaggernaut254050d ago

Wait until you get the 3rd power set... O_O it is stunning and incredibly fun to use!

MasterCornholio4050d ago

"due to a few mediocre reviews"

Well the vast majority are positive so the game cant be bad. Im planning on picking it up regardless of what Adam Sessler says about the game.

Jdoki4050d ago

Hmm, I like inFamous... but is this really the best 4 reasons it's next gen? Really?

Reason 1 - it's next gen because you can only play it on a next gen console!

Reason 2 - It's next gen because it looks good

Reason 3 - It's next gen because it uses a controller only available on a next gen console!

Reason 4 - You have more powers than in the previous games

Wow... That'll have them lined up round the block to buy a PS4 and inFamous bundle.

How about reasons it's not next gen...

Game play isn't different enough from the previous games

City doesn't feel any more alive than previous games

Mission structure still stuck in the repetitive last gen model

Strip off the graphics and this could be a PS3 game

iamnsuperman4050d ago (Edited 4050d ago )

"Strip off the graphics and this could be a PS3 game"

This is just plain wrong. The particle effects are just ridiculous in this game. It is clear as day that even with dumbed down graphics it could not be played on last generation hardware. You can see the game needs the extra RAM (the AI is surprisingly good in this game and the amount of stuff going on with the powers is crazy)

I agree the mission structure isn't that varied but I feel that comes with any superhero game (part of the genre). Also the open world could feel more alive (major criticism I agree with) but saying this could be an old generation game by stripping the graphics is a ludicrous and stupid statement to make which also shows a lack of sense and understanding when it comes to how games work

Jdoki4050d ago

Ok, so maybe I was being a bit flippant with that point, but I don't think it's outrageous, or stupid.

I put a huge amount of hours in to both inFamous 1 and 2, and inFamous SS doesn't feel very different - certainly not different enough to warrant a 'next gen' tag, regardless of improved physics or AI (which I always thought provided a good challenge in the 1st and 2nd games anyway).

Unique PlayStation Games Where You Sweep Through Enemies Like They're Nothing

Huzaifah from eXputer writes, "My favorite type of genre in games is when enemies are merely animal fodder in the eyes of the protagonist's sheer power."

They really need to

Go off the evil ending off Second Son

Delsin absorbs all those powers

Revealed he’s the real Beast and John in Infamous 2 was just an anomaly created by timelines being messed with by Kessler.

Cole vs the Real Beast

gold_drake281d ago

quite honestly, i dont remember a whole lot about 2 amymore, but i absolutely hated the guy in second son haha.

chicken_in_the_corn280d ago

It would make more sense to go off the evil ending of 2 and the good ending g of SS where Cole is The Beast.

Cacabunga279d ago

Doesnt make any sense calling second son 2 as infamous 3..

OtterX280d ago

Ha, yea Delsin was obnoxious.

I wouldn't mind another new character, but somehow bring Cole into the story.

We can just pretend like Delsin never existed. :)

thejigisup280d ago

Everyone that age is obnoxious. It's been years and is like to think delsin has grown

neutralgamer1992280d ago

Until we wait for a potential new entry it would awesome to have infamous collection for PS5

RaidenBlack280d ago

Umm ... how about this?
First we get the Tushima sequel(coz its most rumored)
Then a new Resistance (need new PS SP FPS)
Then a totally new IP (new IPs are always interesting)
And then a new inFamous?

Pepsi_Man3000280d ago

resistance is insomniac I think

xHeavYx280d ago

Can we also get a complete remaster of InFamous 1 and 2?

fr0sty279d ago

Gimme a new Warhawk and MAG while we're at it.

DivineHand125280d ago

I had a great time with the second son. Never got to play the originals and hope they get remastered one day.

DazaMc280d ago

The graphics were amazing, I got the platinum on that one. Very good.

ChasterMies280d ago (Edited 280d ago )

If I had a choice between another Infamous game and another Spider-Man game, I choose Spider-Man. Sony should spend its resources on its winners.

Tacoboto280d ago (Edited 280d ago )

Infamous was such a winner its studio was given the freedom (after 3 titles + their expansions) to do a new IP with GoT, just like with Sly Cooper before infamous.

I'd welcome a 4th title even more than another Spider-Man, it'd be exciting what they could do with new powers fit for the hardware outside the limits of a licensed superhero game.

jznrpg279d ago

Spider-Man is guaranteed and is made by Insomniac so why not both as Sucker Punch would make Infamous.

100%, locked 60fps and still look great all these years later, same with the expansion, definitely worth a look if people haven't played it yet, not the best games ever made but a good experience, hopefully a new infamous gets released

KwietStorm_BLM469d ago

Never was my favorite infamous, but it was definitely a graphics showcase early on PS4. Still plays well with the unlocked frame rate.

SDuck469d ago

Still remember getting hyped about this game nearing release. Funny because I never even got a PS4. Jumped from PS3 to PC so I never played it ahahaha

OmegaSoldati468d ago

Its a good game. But thats it. Congratulations you made the best choice. I dream to have a great PC one day.

jznrpg279d ago

@OmegaSoldati I’ve had a few of the highest end PC’s and they’re cool for about a year then they aren’t the highest end PC anymore and not as cool. It’s way overrated imo.

Profchaos469d ago (Edited 469d ago )

Graphically It's a absolutely stunning game that still holds up today.

Didn't have all that much depth to it forcing you to play though twice for a platinum trophy a good and bad run it was a little disappointing how similar those were Delsin would be like I'm not doing that for you in a cutscene but the cutscene would play out and force you to do it anyway just as you would of in a good run

I did like the story however it got a lot of complaints back in the day people hated playing as Delsin instead of cole despite Coles story being wrapped up.

Overall though the map wasn't overly saturated with useless points of interest there was some collectibles and things to find but nothing compared to a Ubisoft game.

I think it was a good game if a little hollow I've played it through around 4 times now since it's so short.

Also it's DLC was great a full story expansion
