Graphically it was excellent. However the setting and story were awfully boring and linear.

AnotherProGamer4108d ago

It's not really linear, the level design is more open than most modern shooters

Knushwood Butt4107d ago

True.

I do think the campaign is a bit, 'dry', though.

Very atmospheric, and it's so pretty it makes my eyes hurt.

mayberry4108d ago

The game is tactical and BOSS! The visuals are a boss us, imho.

Matt6664108d ago

I don't see what was wrong with the story line and setting of it, I just think people don't give it the respect it deserves.

WitWolfy4107d ago (Edited 4107d ago )

Meh I never really liked Killzone SF's story... I so loathe the "one man army" cliche.. Its been used too death!!!

UnholyLight4107d ago

Agreed. The story was more immersive with the graphical quality, but I found myself just soldiering on to finish the game and move on to multiplayer quite often. The game had way too many moments where you would receive your mission and suddenly just be jumping right into the game. It needed some more cinematics in my opinion at least.

I didn't find the multiplayer to catch my attention the way Battlefield 4 has!

bjmartynhak4107d ago

Nah, started with open areas and very slow pace then it became more linear and fast-paced towards the end. Nice formula imo. However, characters and storytelling in general were disappointing.

MP is a blast however.

CoryHG4107d ago

I didn't realize people still played multiplayer focused first person shooters for the single player campaign? Let me know how that works out for you!

showtimefolks4107d ago

KZ:SF has awesome MP and above average single player, a lot of people hating on the game never even played or give it a shot. Not saying everyone is wrong but this ps4/xbox one has been extra harsh towards games from fanboys point of view

Aldous_Snow4108d ago

Wasn't this confirmed months ago? I love this game, really enjoying the multiplayer.

PS4 is the future. The futu... No, just no. Anyone who posts that again will meet my hatchet :)

Abriael4108d ago (Edited 4108d ago )

Nope. Most of the numerical data is new.

starchild4107d ago

Well, I knew about the 40,000 polys per main character months ago. But it looks like some of the other stuff is new. In any case, it doesn't hurt to repeat a few things for those that might have missed them.

matt1394108d ago

Yet Ryse still looked a hell of a lot better.

Omran4108d ago

No The Order 1886 is the
best next gen in terms of graphics !

the characters have 100000 polygons
ryse have 80000 it was downgraded from
150000 polygons to 80000

xfear2diex4108d ago

the poly count never in both games is high and that it the order look brilliant while ryse look gorgeous too can,t compare both because of the gameplay is different and the setting is different too and ryse was lunched in late 2013 while the the ordder still have no relese date and the ordder might get an upgrade or downgrade depend on how the development goes but one thing for sure when naughty dog show their game at e3 there some jaws to drop and minds to be blowen

Omran4108d ago (Edited 4108d ago )

I agree with you in general but I am talking about now ! from what I saw ! the order have
more polys and the environment is just phenomenal
this doesn't mean ryse awful graphics it looks very nice but when you compare the two games the order looks better

Bigpappy4108d ago

He said that Ryse looked better than killzone. You said: no the order looks better than Rise. How do you get there. The order has nothing to do with Rise and Killzone, and hasn't even been made yet.

xfear2diex4108d ago

yup the order look phenomenal as of now and i hope they can upgrade the graphics more and i can,t judge both games because i did not play ryse nor i did play the order and i can,t judge a game fully from a screenshot or a video but what i know they both look very good to downplay them in the end lets enjoy both game and before someone come and say ryse is boring or the order look like generic shooter there people who like those things and enjoy they can enjoy a game for its graphics only and from what i see ryse have a good gameplay and the order is a shooter and they are fun to play but can,t judge the game because we did not see a lot of gameplay for it in the end you can,t enjoy a game if you did not played it and put in mind the right expectation

sorane4108d ago (Edited 4108d ago )

Move aside Order because Star Citizen has that beat.

100000+ poly characters
8million+ poly ships
scenes with over 20mill+ polys

All in a non-linear universe running at whatever resolution and fps you want.

Shane Kim4108d ago

Together with a PC that costs an arm and a leg.

sorane4108d ago (Edited 4108d ago )

@kim

ahh yes, the usual console fanboy that knows nothing about pc prices. I love you guys :) What I don't love is how cheap these consoles got with there hardware because it's holding gaming/tech back for another 8-10 years. The one good thing about it though is that I only have to upgrade my graphics card this time around which makes it cheaper by a far far margin to console gaming. Either way this isn't a talk about prices it's a talk about graphics and Star Citizen is leading the pack by a large large distance. If you can't deal with it then do what most console kids do and close a blind eye, but I'll need both my eyes open to play Star Citizen in glorious VR! You all know the saying: Don't hate the Playa.......

Muffins12234108d ago

Okay but the order is not out yet is it? I would expect the order to look better becauses its a year later from
Ryse, everything gets better every year thats expected. At the moment ryse is the best looking nextgen game out at the moment and theres nothing you can say or do but disagree in denial at this comment.

BISHOP-BRASIL4108d ago

@Bigpappy

I'm guessing The Order came up the same way Ryse did into this Killzone thread. It's not like Ryse had anything to do with it anyway...

Geekman4107d ago

And yet the order is 30fps.

BitbyDeath4107d ago

Even Polygon admitted to Killzone looking better than Ryse and they are heavily biased for MS since MS funds/funded the site.

starchild4107d ago

Maybe, but lots of other reviewers said Ryse was the best looking next gen game. I don't own an Xbox One, but I've seen Ryse being played and even as a PC gamer who plays Crysis 3 nearly maxed out I still thought Ryse was pretty damn impressive.

I own Killzone Shadow Fall, but it doesn't impress me as much. A lot of the textures aren't that great and the shadow quality isn't the best. The character models, despite this 40,000 poly figure, often look kind of poor in quality. All in all it is still a really great looking game, it's just not the leap over Killzone 3 that I was expecting.

Prime1574107d ago

@bigpappy, it's a kz article and the other kid deviated to ryse. From that tangent I see no reason why the order wouldn't be fair game. Much like bishop said.

Also in terms of single player content, ryse has a lot less in it. Not only in hours played, but also settings..

Honestly, I hate when reviewers and fanboys point out their games as "better" when said game is short as all Hell.

TheRedButterfly4107d ago (Edited 4107d ago )

@Omran

Aaaaactually Ryse's main characters are rendered [in gameplay] at 160,000 polygons. Enemy AI are at 80,000.

Initial Ryse models were 130,000,000 polygons with 147,456 × 147,456 textures.

There's always one!! 900p, 15-20fps, played like shit, sold like shit. Need I say more?

BX814108d ago

Ryse had a way better story than kz and was a lot more fun imo.

Bigpappy4108d ago (Edited 4108d ago )

Ryse doesn't have a frame rate issue, don't hang on to everything you see on the net. Even if everything you said was true, it still doesn't change the fact that Ryse looks better.

HeWhoWalks4108d ago

The character models look better, but that is all. Killzone's environments are far more rich in detail, the lighting is more advanced, and the particle effects are unmatched by Ryse.

That said, I'd love to hear the rationale behind bringing Ryse up in a Killzone topic.

DigitalRaptor4107d ago (Edited 4107d ago )

Well said. You get bubble for that.

Ryse has cheap thrills in its execution animations that accentuate just how great the character models are, but that's it. once you get past the cheap thrills, you realise just how bad everything else is. Boring, clunky gameplay and poor performance.

Killzone looks better than Ryse in every single other category other than character models. It has much wider environments and still looks better.

XXXL4108d ago

Thank god Assassins Creed 4 was a launch title. I bought the Killzone bundle and couldn't stand the game.

BX814108d ago

Yeah it just sucked. Kz3 was better I thought.

jspsc1234108d ago

coming from 2 and 3, shadow fall is just too colorful and not gritty enough.

JackVagina4108d ago

didn't people complain 2&3 was too gritty and not colorful enough...?

iamnsuperman4108d ago

I for one loved the grittiness of Killzone 3 but it needed some colour. I know Killzone 3 gets a lot of stick for its single player campaign but I found it to be the best of the series. It was simple, realistic and not over the top. It just needed an ending that didn't rush things.

Then we got Killzone Shadow Fall which was colourful (yay) but it's story was bizarre and illogical

15 Last-Gen Games That Still Compete with Current-Gen Graphics

GB: "Say what you will about the state of the industry, but even as games evolve, their graphics remain a key aspect. Even some of the biggest flops this year sport some gorgeous visuals, as publishers and developers push the boundaries of what’s possible, pouring years of time and money into their work."

Quantum Break and Ryse are two that I was really surprised did not get an FPS boost option when played on the Series X|S. when i started playing both on the XBO, I thought they are both good, but after playing them also on my steam deck (in 60fps) I just cant go back and play the base games on XB. They really benefit from that faster frame rate.

Driveclub is another i wished had a HFR mode on PS5.

MatrixxGT233d ago

Most games this gen are the exact same except now we get faster loading through SSD and a res and fps bump. Graphically not much has improved, hell most last gen games are being relabeled and resold as “remastered” with the aforementioned updates.
I haven’t seen or played anything on either platform that couldn’t be run on last gen. Guess the law of diminishing returns is really showing itself these days.

127maXimus233d ago

Most games from 20 years ago are basically the same as today, with resolution and fps upgrades. The AI is still just as braindead as it always has been, worlds are full of static, boring characters that do the same thing over and over.

Demetrius233d ago

Smh another reason why graphics haven't improved that much is because most devs too caught up on cross gen. Ps4 was/still a dope console but time has moved on we're halfway close to a ps6 reveal and devs still will be making games on last gen in 2025. Then theres Microsoft purposely got the Xbox series s that causes more devs to try to pull strings as much as they can smh. It's a mixed bag of stuff, the only ones I see pushing hardware is sonys studios and even some indie games look better

Why Guerrilla Games Shouldn't Abandon the Killzone Series

Hugely disappointingly, it seems that Guerrilla Games, developers of the Killzone and Horizon series, may be done with Killzone for good.

1 was fine, overhyped as a " halo" killer
2 was a graphical beast at the time, and felt heavy
3 was good a refinement of 2 but not much else. weird audio issues environment were to quiet
shadow fall was pretty but bland

OtterX240d ago (Edited 240d ago )

Shadowfall had great Multiplayer though. Too bad the campaign was meh at best. It did have the occasional great moment sprinkled in.

TheNamelessOne240d ago (Edited 240d ago )

I played through 2/3 multiple times. I played through the original once, but it felt pretty lukewarm for me. I couldn't be bothered to beat Shadow Fall. I got a couple hours in and just went "I'm done". Never touched it again. It was awesome on the tech side, being a launch title, but it didn't even match up to the first game when it came to actually having fun playing it.

Rude-ro240d ago

3 in 3d was an amazing experience to be had.
Although not many experienced it as intended for good reasons.

just_looken240d ago

You forgot the ai advancements on the playstation 2 killzone one you could have a full team of bots doing everything even playing the objective that was a big thing.

In killzone 2 they always flanked you and when available used the high ground.

Playing killzone 2 no hud 5.1 audio was/is awesome

MDTunkown240d ago

They should finish Horizon story first

darthv72240d ago

I dont mind if someone else takes up the mantle for the KZ franchise. We are several years removed from the first game. It certainly could use a remake to gauge interest in the rest of the series. I know it has its fans... Im thinking of how a proper reboot can rekindle that old dormant flame and bring in a new generation of fans in the process.

just_looken240d ago

You forgot killzone mercenaries on the ps vita but it was the worst selling sony game for awhile there.

Yui_Suzumiya240d ago

Yeah, a remake would be pretty awesome

anast240d ago

They should let it go or sell it. No use spending millions on this project.

LucasRuinedChildhood240d ago

Would like a new IP before Horizon 3. Just because games take so long to make these days.

Killzone After a Decade in Hibernation

It's been 10 years since Killzone: Shadow Fall arrived for PlayStation 4 early adopters, and there's no sign of another sequel.

Obscure_Observer583d ago

Sadly it was dumped by Guerrilla to focus on Horizon games only. Mainline, VR and Multiplayer.

Vengeance1138583d ago

lmao sadly? Are you pretending to have actually played the series lol Sorry bud, no Killzone on Xbox.

Cacabunga583d ago

With the downfall of COD and BF, Killzone def. has a chance to make a groundbreaking comeback

583d ago
Notellin583d ago (Edited 583d ago )

What a low-functioning reply here typical of the fanboy N4G community.

Rimeskeem583d ago

“Dumped”

I think it’s called moving on.

Barlos583d ago (Edited 583d ago )

They brought out 4 main games and 2 spin offs: one on PSP and one on Vita. That's a decent run for any series. I also understand that Shadow Fall wasn't a success commercially despite it coming out at PS4 launch, and as a big Killzone fan even I couldn't get into it, so I think Sony/Guerrilla could see it was time to move on.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love another Killzone game in the vein of KZ2 but it's just not happening. Hell, I'd even take a remake or remaster of the first 3 games.

I'd hardly say it was "dumped" though, it spanned 3 console generations and 2 handheld generations.

1Victor583d ago

@obscured:”Sadly it was dumped by Guerrilla to focus on Horizon games only. Mainline, VR and Multiplayer”

Happily it was dumped by Guerrilla to focus on Horizon games only. Mainline, VR and Multiplayer( edited to reflect the writer true feelings and allegiance)
Kill zone was a FPS far ahead of its glitched competitors with nauseating bad camera angles, 10 years old screaming curses like a drunk sailor and bot aiming assist.

ChasterMies583d ago

“Sadly”?

The Horizon games were among the best games of all time. Killzone Shadowfail wasn’t.

Shane Kim582d ago

True, but damn the memories of KZ2 multiplayer. Still no MP as fun as that to this date.

Mr_cheese583d ago

Dumped and shelved are two different things

Tacoboto582d ago

And Sony as a whole dumped the FPS genre so they wouldn't have products competing with COD and (until purchase) Destiny.

GoodGuy09583d ago

I loved the KZ2+3 campaigns and MP in 2. There could be so much more done with the franchise. Horizon although good, I wish they'd go back to this wonderful IP. Take a break from Horizon please.

Flawlessmic583d ago

Agreed dude, I would absolutely love a reboot of the series, one can only hope that either resistance or killzone makes a return.

Have nothing but great memories, especially of the first 3 games, but all 4 were show stoppers graphically.

blackbeld583d ago

To making it a successful reboot they have to change that buttons layout! Make it playable like the cod button layout. Otherwise I’ll skipping it again.

Rynxie583d ago

And that's the reason why many fps games failed. Instead of being original and catering to it's fans, they tried to make it like cod. No, kz doesn't need cod button layout. It needs to be like it was on kz2 or balanced liked kz3.

Lightning77583d ago

I think Kill Zone would do great in Sony's LS push. As well as MAG reboot and bring back Resistance into LS.

Sharky231582d ago

@Lightning77

I think WarHawk would have been a great Live service game.

thorstein583d ago

Killzone games were so polished. The gameplay was just simple joy. MP was one of the best experiences.

I remember KZ3, just staring at how awesome they animated the water and then getting wasted because of it.

P_Bomb583d ago

It’s been a decade? Now I’m sad.

LiViNgLeGaCY582d ago

I hear ya bud. We're due for a revival.
