Titanfall: Respawn Denies Rumors on Resolution Drop to 720p on Xbox One

About an hour ago “insider” Crazy Buttocks on a Train (AKA CBOAT) dropped a rumor, stating that Titanfall’s resolution would be dropped at launch from 792p of the beta to 720p, also saying that he’s “sticking to his guns about texture resolution at launch being the same of the alpha.

DualShockers reached out to Respawn for a clarification, and Community Manager Abbie Heppe firmly denied the rumor.

Wasn't the beta textures already improved from the alpha, and well DS already reached out to Respawn about the resolution so that is that.
Not sure what this guys game is.

@Abriael I don't visit Neogaf so I wasn't aware they had something like that in place. If that is indeed what he's trying to do, then he's on the right track in my opinion.

Abriael4127d ago

According to famousmortimer, it could be account suicide. If you're wrong about this kind of things on Neogaf, you get banned.

B-radical4127d ago

The mere fact he claimed they would revert back to alpha textures from the much better looking beta textures just says he was wrong and his "sources" if he really has them were trolling him.

creatchee4127d ago

CBOAT is probably being fed bad info by his sources. Could be a molehunt on MS's part. Anyway, discredit him and he loses his power.

morganfell4127d ago

"According to famousmortimer, it could be account suicide. If you're wrong about this kind of things on Neogaf, you get banned."

True. And he may be doing this on purpose. Why would he be so adamant? To prove he isn't an insider because for him being wrong is more important than getting caught.

TomShoe4127d ago

I have a feeling a lot more devs are patrolling GAF nowadays. Anytime a rumour comes up, they seem to be a lot quicker to shoot it down. They're probably up to CBOAT and are monitoring whenever he posts.

I'm banned from GAF until March 1st, but stuff like that can get you a perma-ban if you're not careful.

Gazondaily4127d ago (Edited 4127d ago )

I've told people on here for ages not to take what he says seriously. He chats rubbish most of the time. He should have approached Respawn cap in hand and apologised after essentially calling them liars over the texture debate.

NeoGAF is a vat of bile.

Anyone who takes anything posted on there seriously needs to get their head examined.

dedicatedtogamers4127d ago

It's curious to see people react to this. Maybe the final build will have worse textures. Maybe it'll be the same or better..

The thing is, we've already had multiple games on X1 that fell short of the pre-release footage and screenshots. Dead Rising 3 had juttery framerate and pop-in. Forza 5 had significant downgrades in the lighting and textures compared to the pre-release demos they were showing off (especially considering the whole "Forza 5 running on PCs, not X1" controversy). Multiplats run significantly worse on X1.

And then there was Resolutiongate regarding CoD Ghosts.

Is it such a stretch that this game might be all that the devs are saying it is, graphically speaking? People argue "but but why would they do that? They wouldn't do that. It would just hurt them in the end".

Would it? Lying about game performance hasn't exactly killed the X1 in the first 3 months since it launched. Why would it kill THE BIGGEST VIDEOGAME OF THE YEAR(tm)!!??!

vigilante_man4127d ago

Developers have already mentioned that they create better graphics resolutions during testing and then shrink these down to a best fit for each specific platform.

Nothing new here...

MiloGarret4127d ago

This is account suicide. He/they know they've lost all credibility so they're planting one final rumor hoping it'll do as much damage as possible. Then, a month or so from now a new user will start leaking negative news about xbone and microsoft. Watch it happen.

fr0sty4126d ago

729p, 720p, alpha textures, beta textures... in all cases the game simply does not look that impressive, and for the bone to be struggling with it is quite indicative of how weak of a system it is. 2D fighters, ports of last gen games, and next gen games that don't look all that great all get downgrades in some form on the bone.

miDnIghtEr20C_SfF4126d ago

It's going to be hilarious when TF launches at 1080p for the X1. Get ready for TitanFall.

loulou4126d ago (Edited 4126d ago )

cboat...lol the guy does not exist and is just an account used by "the firm" on GAF.

this little stunt was just a way of publicly burying him after (oh the irony) mrx (of all people) outed the truth. lol

the truth always has a way of bubbling up!!

move along people, nothing to see here

mewhy324126d ago

I'd say 720p with lots of screen tear will be the norm for most xbone games.

I was in the Alpha and the Beta and the Beta was light years better looking. The textures in the Alpha looked like they were from DOOM. When I booted up the Beta I was immediately struck by how much better the guns and everything looked.

lolCHILLbro4127d ago

Well i guess N4G and Neogaf will hit this weeks quota for page views, good work CBOAT keep the cash rollin in lol

Eonjay4127d ago

This is the lamest flamewar ever. Titanfall isn't even a graphical powerhouse on a PC. Its not about that at all. I love heated debates about technology and processing power, but this has gotten too petty for me. This game does not have High Quality textures nor has it ever pretended to. It is what it is.

starchild4127d ago

Neogaf is a such a cesspit of fanboyism. It's too bad, too, because there are some great and intelligent posters there.

imt5584127d ago

Well, when you comparing PC insane settings @1080p vs. Xbone version, Titanfall on Xbone looks like alpha or like crap. I'm pretty sure that CBOAT has right. I don't see such big improvements in textures on Xbone. Minor improvements probably.

imt5584127d ago

According to Digital Foundry, Titanfall beta on Xbone has framedrops from 60 to 35 fps. If CBOAT has right, possible scenarios :

- Framerate remain the same from 35 to 60
- Resolution donwgrade from 792p to 720p, framerate jump to 45-60 fps
- 2xMSAA goes out and FXAA goes in, framerate jump to 50-60 fps
- Texture downgrades ( well, i can't see downgrades because textures are bad enough on Xbone )

extermin8or4127d ago

What I find even more ridiculous than his claims: the fact people seem to care if it's 720p or 792p I mean come on negligible difference or what... I can kind of understand 720pvs1080p even 900p being something people complain about however 792p vs 720p... really? LOL

4126d ago
extermin8or4126d ago

@Voiceoftreason look the difference in terms of what you can notice/see is nothing unless you're using some massive TV en the difference will still be slight. % increase means very little when the difference is so small. Like saying 4 is massively superior to 2 because it's 100% higher... total crap.

BuLLDoG9094126d ago

Ridiculous.. Who gives a flying crap whether its 720p or 792p ?... 792!? ffs, what in the fuk is that shit ?

all this over nothing, the difference is literally unnoticeable, its more political bs just so MS can say its not 720p. laughable LAUGHABLE!!!

Gamer19824126d ago

WTF is 792p???? Whats the point in that resolution?? Now devs are making up resolutions when they are squeezing in a few more pixels.. But a community manager will know nothing about this game really (trust me I used to be a community manager for Atari years ago) They get little info and are there just to control the community. The devs however have stayed quiet on this matter and that is pretty damning..

like it's said in the story CBOAT is suiciding (that's not a word but i'm going with it) the account.

Todd has even stated on his twitter that if this one gets proven wrong it's the ban hammer for CBOAT (they've usually had alot of freedom for this sorta thing so to ban now is serious i suppose).

why this is happening no-one knows for sure but i'm sure there's alot of speculation about it.

Well he does have his ntkrnl account to fall back on lol he can post his anti xbox sentiments from that

Isn't there evidence that cboat is used by multiple people (neogaf mods)?

Although the late 2000s Turok wasn't my favorite, I would love a new entry. Open world survival with shotguns and dinosaurs. Not sure how we'd get the fusion cannon, but that would be pretty sweet too.

MadLad1008d ago

Lol

All of these games are pretty much universally praised. Outside of Timeshift I literally own all of these.

XIII, The Darkness 2, Far Cry: Blood Dragon, Timesplitters: future perfect, Bulletstorm are awesome games
