Titanfall: Counter to the Critics

Respawn has generated some skeptics. Here is my counter of some of the criticisms of Titanfall.

Wow...see where all the Microsoft paid hype has gotten us. Game fish hacks responding to game fish hacks. It's just a sad time to be a gamer. Good lord, is this guy a little butt hurt or what. So the guy has an opinion that's different than yours. I guess it must be a secret because there are many that share the opinion of the guy that did the article that slams Titanfall. Then maybe he was one of the few that didn't sign the "don't say anything bad or negative about Titanfall" agreement for cool cash. Is this how it's going to be now. Anyone that says something bad about Titanfall someone will respond to it. Microsoft can't control everything.

You sound pretty ignorant, clearly you haven't played the game. I'm not saying it's the best game ever like some idiots but it's pretty damn fun. Just because people like the game they are automatically getting paid by the "God of evil known as Microsoft". I guess i'm getting paid some sick cash to post this comment.

It reminds of me what mw 1 and 2 were for me as a gamer. But the problem with this one is it doesnt quite compare to mw 1. For on the a.i. is pretty dumb. Second game needs some balancing which is easy. Third while the game has 13 maps it seems might just have 3 games modes and even with all those maps it seems the type of game which will get boring much faster compared to mw 1 or 2. With that said it seems this game has addressed the glaring issue with cod crowd of team work. Second its something new to the fps genere. Biggest concern is paying 60 dollars for an game with no sp which might set the new trend after day one and paid dlc of making 60 dollars online only games with stripping down content like sp and ccop that was otherwise included.

Gee guy I'm sure sorry that what I had to say got you clearly very upset. Not my intent. And I hope my response to your post don't not have the same effect. 1st you are right I have not played the game but in fairness I never made that claim in way shape or form. Second I didn't start or help spread any rumors about Microsoft paying anyone for anything. Microsoft got caught with their hand in the cookie jar it was Youtubers that ratted them out and it's industry practice to pay for positive reviews it's just not common knowledge till now. So that was a fact not a rumor or making stuff up. "You sound pretty ignorant" if I came across that way well, this is a gaming forum soooo yeah! Now if you respond by saying you are the one that did the "Titanfall: Counter to the Critics" article and I don't know if you are or not but I'd be more than happy to talk about it in private. I say this because it sounds like you are. But idk.

I wonder if I can bash titanfall enough to be sent a C&D order coupled with a few grand. They'd probably add a lawsuit and double my pay off package if I crushed a limited edition titanfall console.

its really hard convincing myself that this is more than a kick-ass MOD someone made for Black Ops 2 or something.

People are insane. If you enjoy the game, play it and have fun doing so. If you can't get into it, you must realize that some games just aren't for everyone and play something else that you find more suitable to your interests.

ThichQuangDuck4143d ago

True they should silence their opinion in the beta testing phase so that possibly bugs, glitches, AI issues, balancing issues are not found and that ignorance can be bliss. Everyone must see Titanfall as perfect or get out of N4G. Have you ever thought it is possible to critique something and enjoy it at the same time?

Sovereign594142d ago

That's not at all what I said. The beta was for ironing out bugs, and hopefully at this it was highly successful.

What I'm talking about are the people with complaints that are in no way legitimate. People looking for "changes" rather than "fixes." I'm talking about the people that are going as far as to insinuate that people are only speaking highly of Titanfall because someone is paying them to do so opposed to them actually enjoying the game.

When people complain that Titanfall is "too similar to CoD" I don't see how anyone can find merit in what they're saying. Visually, there are similarities, for example in many of the animations, but beyond that, I don't see it. For a game made by a group of people that used to make CoD, this game looks much less like CoD than one would expect.
Then there are people who take it to the next level and say the game is "just CoD... with mechs." I'm someone whom has never enjoyed CoD. Countless friends play it and time and time again I've tried to get into it with no avail. And it doesn't help matters that I'm quite poor at it. Yet I was glued to the screen playing the Titanfall beta. I was never finding myself bored. I ran across walls, jumped above minions below, flew through windows, jumped out the other side of a building and shot an enemy pilot on an adjacent rooftop. I found the gameplay to be thrilling. And I actually seemed to be good at it. Everything felt very different from any time I'd ever played CoD, and the sci-fi elements kept things interesting.

I'm droning on and on so I'll just talk about one more thing, the people that complain about the bots and the 6 vs 6 player count.
A higher player count would mean maps would have to be much larger in order to adequately accommodate a higher number of titans running around. 6 vs 6 and a possible total of 12 massive titans patrolling a map is plenty.

And the AI minions aren't supposed to pose much of a threat to players, certainly not as much as an enemy pilot. They're present to provide the matches with something of a cinematic feel, and killing them benefits anyone looking to reduce their Titanfall countdown.

Baccra174142d ago

That would be great if it was 15 or so years ago. Now, in this period of gaming, if a game does well everyone tries to copy it and makes the "play something else" strategy of yours worthless. Plenty of games that I liked were mutilated and changed so that it could get that COD money. And I won't be surprised if games I like this generation are Titanfied for that Titan Fall money. This hype needs to die.

Nocando4143d ago

I am loving the beta and will buy Titanfall, but enough already.

GuruMeditation4143d ago

It doesn't really need defending. Plenty of plenty of ppl are gonna buy it one way or the other. That said, it's always good to see some counter-arguments. I might take the plunge, but it'll have to be PC, which is mildly annoying as I predominantly game on PS3/4 these days...

Although the late 2000s Turok wasn't my favorite, I would love a new entry. Open world survival with shotguns and dinosaurs. Not sure how we'd get the fusion cannon, but that would be pretty sweet too.

MadLad1019d ago

Lol

All of these games are pretty much universally praised. Outside of Timeshift I literally own all of these.

Venoxn4g1019d ago (Edited 1019d ago )

XIII, The Darkness 2, Far Cry: Blood Dragon, Timesplitters: future perfect, Bulletstorm are awesome games

gurp419d ago

I played them all, they are all good in their own way
I used to be obsessed with FPS games

An ode to Titanfall: The last twitch shooter I'll probably ever enjoy

Windows Central: "Titanfall 1 is being sunset, taken off storefronts by EA. While the servers remain live for now, one has to wonder just how much time it has left. I look back and pay tribute to the last "twitch"-styled shooter I ever truly loved."
