"I’m about to become very unpopular with fans of Final Fantasy VIII.
Now, I actually like Final Fantasy VIII. I think it took risks on its leveling and stats systems; risks that paid off. And for the most part, its story is fairly inventive and unique: a futuristic spin on Harry Potter that follows a group of gifted youths in a mercenary academy trying to fight off the threat of an evil sorceress.
But the game’s biggest claim to fame is with its increased focus on romance. The key players in this romance are Squall, a withdrawn swordsman with a chip on his shoulder, and Rinoa, a spirited young woman at the forefront of a rebellion. Over the course of the game, Squall and Rinoa fight alongside each other, surmounting obstacles both human and supernatural, and then end up falling in love.
I’m about to show you why their love story was total bullshit."

Gary Green said: Tempting as it is to dedicate our first installment of PlayStation Icons to a franchise-leader like Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, or even Sackboy, instead I’m choosing a character that I, like so many others, connected with on a personal level. He’s a moody, world-weary teen, a proud loner with no time for the drama of others, and yet he’s also a hero just waiting for the motivation to unleash his full potential. He’s a warrior. He’s a leader. He’s the king of internal monologues. It’s time to meet Squall Leonhart.
With hundreds of games, some of which are considered to be classics that hold up to this day, you’ve got the pick of the litter when it comes to choosing a potential remake
^This. THIS!
Stop remaking PS4 games!
Remake PS1 and PS2 games à la FF7R, RE1, Mafia, Half Life style ....
Make Legend of Dragoon, Legacy of Kain etc Remakes happen
and Valkyrie Profile Lenneth. They did Star Ocean 1 & 2 R already, VPL should get the same treatment.
I'd be down for FF8, and Xenogears. But I would also be down for Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross. And I wish Namco would get off their ass and remake or remaster the Xenosaga trilogy.

Final Fantasy has a long running history with numerous numbered titles and spin-offs, but which games stand to benefit from a remake?
I'd rather the 13 trilogy just be ported tbh. No matter what you think if it, it shouldn't be the only numbered offline games not playable on new consoles. But naturally I'd play the **** out of 8-12 remakes.
I never felt it was very genuine either to be honest... I absolutely loved FFVIII though regardless. :]
Highly disagree, it was pretty realistic in my opinion
Rinoa didnt just fall in Squalls arms, she teased him, flirted, played hard to get amd trier her best to figure him out. While he found it hard to read her signals because of his past hardening him, like when Ellone was taken from him at the orphanage and he ended up not trusting anyone ever again.
Fantastic character development for Squall by the way, it's what really nailed the romance and made it interesting
I think a lot of people forget that the characters in FFVIII are still only teenagers. And teens are only just starting to date, fall in love, and understand what being in a relationship is like. So of course they're going to make dating mistakes, impulsive decisions, and have messy relationships. You're not going to be the perfect partner the first time you date someone. You're not going to be an expert on relationships when you're still in high school. Hell, most adults aren't even experts on relationships!
So maybe the author can't see why Rinoa would fall for a guy like Squall. But there are plenty of people irl who do fall in love with people like Squall. It's not like romance is some rare, strange concept that is exclusive to friendly and outgoing people.
And I don't like the author's idea that Rinoa should have taken Squall to task over his "whiny" personality and attempted to make him a better person either. That's not her job to do. You don't date someone to "fix" them (because that TOTALLY works, amirite?). You date a person because you like them. Though Squall DID change and evolve throughout the game anyway. He underwent the most character development out of anyone else in the game imo.
Though it's not like Rinoa and Squall didn't recognize each other's faults anyway. There are plenty of moments in the game where Rinoa calls out Squall for his nasty comments and standoffish behavior, or Squall questions Rinoa on her impulsiveness and lack of planning. And remember that scene where Squall carries the unconscious Rinoa to Esther? The whole time he's questioning why she means so much to him, and why he suddenly hates being alone, and why he's risking so much to save her. But love can be like that. Sometimes you fall for a person, and you can't even put into words why! Squall might not openly discuss his love for Rinoa, but that doesn't mean he's a bad person (or a bad boyfriend). His actions show how much he cares for her.
I'm not saying Squall and Rinoa's romance is written perfectly. But I also don't think it's anywhere near as bad as these types of articles always say it is.

Your too late like idk about 6 years too late when Spoony made his infamous Final Fantasy VIII reviews
