This is why I'm not a fan. The addition of bots lowers the skill gap of the game. The biggest part of a competitive multiplayer shooter is that it's supposed to be COMPETITIVE. I want to test my skill against other pilots, not slaughter bots with the occasional PvP faceoff.

I have played several matches online and I have died once.......Once! This means that the game play is super fast and people just see the bots standing around like idiots, you just shoot them. I'm sorry, they should not have bots. They should only have PvP. The bots are so distracting that you cannot find pilots. The only way I died was when I could not eject in time from my titan. The game is fun, but you cannot differentiate bots from pilots and in the end, you only get mostly bot kills. I hope diversity in modes can keep it pvp. But don't get me wrong, love the pace and feel, its a fun game

I suck at online fps games, so let me just put that out their first. Even for a person like myself, the smart pistol just seems wrong.

The smart pistol auto-targets enemies and all the player has to do is press the fire button while the lock is in place and boom the enemy will die. Some enemies require multiple lock on but even so the pistol does it all for you. Combine that with the bad AI of bots and you have a situation where a player that sucks can rack up kills and get their titan quicker putting skilled players at a disadvantage.

Or skilled players start farming bots, like you do in LoL, and now skilled players having a crushing advantage.

The problem is, if Respawn makes the bots smart than they become a threat to real players. If they become an actual threat to real players than it turns the game into bots versus humans and the K/D ratios get even more out of wack and new players that suck become even more discouraged. It will be interesting to see how this all turns out.

Calm down you donkeys. So what if noobs can get easy kills from bots? You only get like 10 points for killing one compared to 100 or so for killing a pilot and 200 for destroying a Titan. Don't want to waste your time killing bots? Then ignore them and go after pilots and Titans. They're clearly identifiable on the mini-map with large red icons.

Also LOL @ believing that Titan Fall is a "competitive" game. I spent about 45 minutes this afternoon just faffing about on the PC version playing with a controller and not once did I go negative or lost a match.

If you tryhards want to play something competitive then play Counter Strike or MOBAs like Dota 2 and League of Legends(which also have AI bots that fight each other). Pretty much just play on PC cause you're not going to find any real competitive games on consoles besides Fighters.

Anyways, I've played the game with couple of my friend and it's really really fun. Graphics are good, no amazing, not best ever, but good. Honestly there is so much stuff going on that you don't have time to stand there and look around.

And yes, the bots are morons. But they aren't worth killing. They do however go to objectives and will shoot rockets at Titans which can be more of an annoyance than anything. If you just run around and focus on bot killing, your not helping your team or maximizing your points. I only kill them if I come across them.

And the whole 6v6, it works. I think 8v8 would be the max, because the maps arent big. Some are very narrow. I played one match with 8 total titans walking around. It was chaos. Tough to move around. If your running around as just a pilot, it feels a little empty. But once everyone starts getting titans, then it feels like the perfect amount.

The bots serve a purpose in the game, to direct the flow of the game. Obviously it is not the perfect solution, but it is aimed to that old problem of people completely ignoring the objectives or their team needs.

It's because the big idea they had going into creating this game was the Titans, giant mechs with giant guns.

However, to accommodate such large mechs, they needed equally large playgrounds. If they went with all players and no bots, they wouldn't be able to sufficiently fill the map; the gameplay would be too slow. So instead, they chose to cut the player count down and flood the map with AIs.

Now, they need to make the game as accessible and marketable as possible. That essentially means that the game needs to be, at most, moderately challenging. It can't be too challenging or they'll run the risk of turning people off to the experience.

What we are left with are large maps with lots of relatively dumb AIs and very few players and titans.

Depends on how you use it, really. If you're good at flanking and moving a little more stealthily, it can be a great weapon, especially once you get the faster lock-on upgrade. If you're, "I see the enemy and am going to run directly towards them", then you'll die pretty quickly, especially with the amount of people who like to sit windows and fire carbines, COD style.

Heck, I'm 1-2 on most of my matches using it..

Only beta has playslist with bots only that, and bots do not count for kills.
bots are just there to farm, and distraction, that's not to take place for players
and invisibility is good against titans, but against pilots is no big deal, so do not spoil anything.

It is 6 vs 6 because everyone gets a titan and 24 titans, for example, would not work on the maps, and if the make maps that big it would bore pilots. So bots have nothing to do with player count, but are there to get you titan rather quickly so the game keeps moving.

The guy in the video keeps saying he isn't trying to be negative, but is in fact doing exactly that by spending all of his time showing how easy it is to kill bots. The game is not about killing bots (Still would be nice if they made at least a few smart ones though). If he had won the game just killing stupid bots he would have proven. But all that does is get you a titan.

AI is garbage. Where is the "unlimited power of the cloud?" Yes the game is fun, no doubt but its too easy. When I can be number one on my team without killing any actual people that says something. Spawn points in TDM are out of wack, spawned in front an enemy and in front a titan multiple times. Smart gun is also stupid and too easy.

The movement in the game is amazing and playing with my friends is fun. But it lacks anything competitive to keep me hooked. Capture and Hold mode is better than TDM in my opinion, more structure and more teamwork. Its fun. Don't get me wrong. But after playing the Beta for a few hours I can't see myself buying this at $60, $40 sure.

In my experience playing, I'd say this isn't an issue. It'd be an issue if only one side had Grunts/Spectres to kill and they took off a lot of time towards getting a Titan. However, the AI is available to kill for everyone, and do very little compared to killing a pilot. I'll take this trade off over people wanting to camp and not protect their grunts/spectres any day. I'm not sure this is as big of a deal as someone who hasn't played the game might think. The best way to speed up your Titan counter is to attack a Titan as a Pilot. The game has done very well at trying to create balance. It can be tweaked, but so far doesn't seem to need much.

So far the game has lived up to and exceeded the hype in my opinion. Admittedly I was worried the hype was too much, and even that the gameplay would be too hectic....not at all, the gameplay, sounds, sights...everything just feels EPIC all the time.

No wonder he got bored, he was running on the ground the entire time kicking bots which defeats the purpose of the game (yes i know who he is) If he was actually trying to play the objective (they lost and he didn't try once to cap a point), went after players and utilized his Titan it'd be a different story.

The bots are similar to how a Moba works, you have to prioritize if you need to farm them for attrition & your Titan or focus on other players/titans or capturing the objective.

You realizes 6v6 isn't a limit of the tech, but a design choice right? The almighty PC version is only 6v6.

There will be mods on PC. The Source Engine is very flexible and experienced(it's old). Modifying Titan Fall for higher play counts and/or removing bots through private servers will roughly take about two to fours days, depending on this modified engine, for a team familiar with the Source Engine. A team or a person will "redesign" Titan Fall for the overall PC community.

The PC isn't almighty,...it's just more open to perform functions from software not originally conceived or intended by the original designers.

I'd be willing to bet anything it won't allow mods of any kind to be used.

Two ideas come to mind: Titan Fall's code will be redesigned to work without MS servers or proxy servers will serve as intermediaries between clients accessing MS servers for requests seeking resources from its servers to use for mods in private servers.

Just a quick question as you seem to have played it. And I am really excited for it cause the game looks like a hell of alot of fun. But why would they include bots if they serve no purpose to kill? It seems kind of detrimental to the experience to have members of your team killing them and not contributing to the overall objective. This is the only thing that seems out of wack for me with the game.

It would be detrimental to have members of your team focusing only on bots, but I haven't seen anyone doing that (except for this video)... most people are actively trying to complete the objective and win the game.really only noob players would do this. And if you're any good, you'll be matched with players who actually play to win.

If I could best describe their role, I'd say they are like extras in an action movie. They're there to give the sense that their is a larger ongoing conflict. They banter, they pull wounded allies away from enemy fire, they talk trash to the opposing ai, and they thank you for saving their lives and sometimes they make comments about the story.they also give you clues as to where the action is because you can follow their gunfire.

I only really bother with killing them if they happen to be between me and my true objective, and that appears to be how most people deal with them.

Yeah, I've been playing the beta a bit on PC and killing bots doesn't really help you in any way. You can kill 100 bots and still be on the bottom of your team if you aren't actively killing real players.

I personally don't see the BOTS as an issue as it does solve the issue of camping to an extent but the BOTS could be a little bit smarter and I can't see why that isn't possible considering how smart the Titan AI is. The Titans can follow, go into Guard mode, shoot enemy players with ease, battle other Mechs using their abilities (e.g. Vortex, Rockets).

That SMART Pistol is the worse. It deff needs to have four locks on human opponents at least. 3 is too damn easy. Especially on the open map. The range is also insane on it as well. I am surprised nobody on the forum at titanfall are not bitching about it. mainly the bot discrepancies.

Blacklight has the same problem. You go have amazing numbers and feel awesome for a few games, then you realize what the bots are and that awesome feeling dissapears. Especially when your team loses and its to people that just scrub the AI the whole time.

That and now that I know there is cloaking, I just got annoyed before playing it. I HATE cloaks with a passion. It ruined Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, and its beyond annoying in Killzone.... why do developers keep adding stupid cloak perks to games. They should just call it "you suck, so take a free kill" perk....

Bot kills don't even count as player kills, and they are worth like 1/10th of the points. I didn't even watch the whole video, but it doesn't seem to even show the leaderboard. You can play CoD without firing a bullet, it doesn't mean the game is flawed, and doesn't mean you can go well without shooting.

You're mistaken. Grunts are worth 20 points, Spectres are worth 30 points, and the real kills are worth 100 points. Grunts are 20% and Spectres are 30% of real people.

However, in this video he was only killed by real people. Even that one time at 01:29, it was a long range kill from a real person. None of the bots ever killed him,...yet he killed so many bots because there is too many bots. He unintentionally met more grunts(bots) and spectres(bots) than real people, consistently in this video.

That's a design flaw in any multiplayer shooter. Can you imagine trolls doing this intentionally,.....on your team, ...because they have bots to play with.

Fair enough, 5/10ths of a player score. From what I've played, farming bots is not a good way to get points. Killing players and titans is a much funner way, and faster way of gathering points. And then if you are playing the capture the points game mode, killing bots is pretty pointless if you want to top the leaderboard.

But yes, I guess having people screw around and kill bots in their attempt to get a high score (which they won't) will affect the scores, but that's not a design fault, that's a player fault, as the game is DESIGNED to kill the players, not the bots (which is why the bots are so weak and dumb).

Grunts are worth 1/5 the points, while spectres are worth 1/3 the points of real players. Maybe you wrote a typo.

Points only matter for getting a Titan faster. The ticker is always counting down anyways. After the Titan drops, if trolls or non-enthusiast don't want to play with/support real people, they don't have to . The weak, dumb bots definitely won't help.

I disagree with your notion. The bots are so weak and dumb because they're DESIGNED to be killed. Additionally, there are arguably more bots than real players on the levels. If Titan Fall were designed to kill real players, the designer(s) would remove bots and increase real player counts varying on map size.

I'm predicting you'll disagree with me because there'd be too may Titans and if I'm wrong, disregard the rest of this paragraph. However, if I'm right, killing Titans is fairly easy. A Titan's lifespan is so short because its health doesn't regenerate and every real player has anti-Titan weapons. Let alone the other Titans to fight. Am I wrong? If yes, please explain with examples .

Personally, high scores aren't emphasized over getting a Titan. Nonetheless, higher scores get Titans faster, but every real player gets a Titan anyway.

It's too bad real player can't call in more than one Titan at a time because high scores would be emphasized. That'd be sweet. That'd be really competitive. What do you think?

The first Titan could be free and every additional Titan called while having a free Titan out could require points without dying. Like a kill streak. However, if that happened, they'd be no reason to not have a higher player count. That'd be better.

I can see what you are saying, but it's still not ruining the game by having the bots. Players that kill other players will always have higher scores than those who attempt to kill bots, and the players who can't kill players won't be able to do anything major in a titan either, and if they did have the ability, why wouldn't they just kill players as it gets a titan faster, gives more score, and depending on the game mode it is adding to the objective?

notice how long it takes him to get a titan even with the kills of the bots. i see the bots actually do more work when theres an enemy titan near by. the point is to obtain a titan asap as they help you reach score fast. although they aren't op vs pilots as one can easily climb one and destroy it if the titan pilot isn't careful. killing actual pilots lowers more time on titanfall than killing bots. notice how he stayed away from the one titan when he could climb it and destroy it. again when he gets in the titan he goes with its just pretty much spray. incorrect sir theres so much more to the titan than just pulling the trigger on the big gun if you play your titan like he tells you. your titan won't last long play last titan standing you will see. while i agree the AI is dumb when you are pilot but they don't really help you much as far as getting a titan. the titan is not a support streak as you get one regardless if you do bad and if you suck its easy to get destroyed. unless you are bling you will be able to see someone with a cloak even when not moving.not to mention once you shoot pretty much useless

In this eight minute & 20 second video, he was capable of call his Titan in at 02:17 from only melee attacks. Imagine if he was shooting everything.

In domination, real players start with a four minutes ticker.

Real kills shave 30 seconds, grunt kills shave 5, and I think spectre kills shave 8-10 seconds off the down-ticking clock. The design of this game already guarantees every real person a Titan, even if they die. However because every real person will get a Titan, it is similar to a support streak because they don't need real kills to earn one. After death, the time, like support kill streaks, doesn't reset. It supports all real players, good or bad.

The more difficult kill streaks require staying alive while earning real kills.

shooting them wouldn't make a difference on the amount of time it would shave off. but if they had no skill to earn it they would have no skill to pilot it. the game its designed for you to get a titan regardless while yes staying alive till your titan arrives is the actual skill not as simple when you have a decent team on the other side or heck even the call card which some can spawn a titan right out of the bat. oh and will keep that in mind man next time i need someone to proofread for me i will come looking for you

Bot kills are the equivalent of an assist in cod. If thats all you go for then your going to for sure lose every game you play. Skilled players only kill them when they are an obstical only and use them to their advantage by baiting players with groups of bots and use them as a distraction when playing the objective. They are a non-issue if your a skilled player, only noobs complain they cant find pilots seriously. EDIT: I should add that killing 10 bots is the equivalent of 1 pilot.

I can see how a melee only person would get bored with it, or any game for that matter. But if you watch, this guy does not use any of the features of the game. No wall running, jet packing, titan usage, cool gun usage, no taking down titans, he just ran in straight lines and kicked things.

And I suppose there are positives and negatives to the bots, a lot of purists, will complain that it detracts from the competitive side of the game which is a valid point. But at the same time a person who isnt motivated by being competitive might find it nice to get some easy kills every now and then to work towards their titan.

AI sucks (Especially when you become a ghost which must have a good programming to do tactics so that they don't see you easily), graphics looks ok but not next gen. Sniper feels more like crysis which is a bad thing , the more accurate the sniper the better. These are the negatives i see so far.

Other wise , it's gonna be awesome and no one can deny that. This is beta so they will fix stuff , i wouldn't judge it now. My advice is to remove that AI even if it's the best AI ever. Multiplayer is to play against real people not bots. Or at least give the option to put them..

I played the beta...anyone who kills on the A.I is playing it wrong. I played 21 matches straight...and literally after the first 4 matches I realised that the A.I is just their for show.

Its not easy...actually when you go one on one with a player its closer to Halo. In Halo you get BR and DMR battles where its the most skilled play that comes out on top. The one on one in Halo is similar in Titanfall when your getting shot you have a chance to back out. The players are constantly moving around so picking them from far with your rifle won't do any good most of the time.
The best part is when you get into your titan...that's when the game changes. People say Titanfall is COD with mechs...its more like Halo with mechs. The fights with other titan requires skills. And when you get your mechs you eventually gonna go one on one with another mechs...that when you see the part where it requires skill. The titan fights are really intense and fun. There was a moment when I was shooting all my missiles at and enemy and he used vortex shield and launched them back at me but I then used my vortex shield to send it back to him. It those really intense awesome moments that makes Titanfall so good.

The person playing doesn't know how to play titanfall. He's killing grunts...tell him to try that against real players. Plus killing grunt doesn't let you get the cards in the game but killing actual player do. The card system lets you use three cards in a game to allow you to boost a certain ability but can only be gained if you do objectives and kill actual players. So going after grunts in the whole game is absolutely stupid and pointless.

Bots are for farming. Killing bots only causes you to lose the match. You get many MANY more points for killing pilots and titans. The ai is simply to add a bigger battle field. Maybe it should be 8v8 but when the titans drop in it gets really hectic.

Yeah, that's not how you Titanfall… That might be how you COD, but that doesn't fly in this game. (Just like it doesn't fly in Battlefield or Halo (<- swords/infection doesn't count)).

Running with a Smart Pistol and each cluster of 3 or 4 is downed in about .5 seconds instead of the 3 or 4 that he spends running all over the battlefield like a headless chicken.

After hours of playtime, here's my feedback regarding the bots: their existence is necessary and good for the game but the main problem is that there are too many of them compared to the number of players. With that many bots and 6 humans on each side, the game becomes very scripted each match and hence gets boring quickly. Compared to a match of Conquest on BF4, each match of Titanfall just feels so repetitive.

With that said, unless there are some killer game modes for Titanfall that Respawn hasn't announced yet and nobody is expecting, I think they should increase the player count to 8v8 so that each match is more dynamic.

The bots are not there to replace players, if they wanted that many players in the match they would have made it so. They are there as cannon fodder to get your titan faster. This game is great and is way better than most of the CoD stale ass games that have been released in the past 5 years.

The bots add more to the game then people like to think. I like the bots, it stops campers and keeps the game flowing. Sure there easy to kill but there to keep the action intense. Trying to kill another player while sitting in a building full of enermy bots make the game so much more entertaining.
