Titanfall PC Beta Requires EA's Origin

Respawn Entertainment boss Vince Zampella confirmed to a fan on Twitter that the Titanfall beta is currently undergoing certification, but details will be coming soon. Additionally, he told another fan that the PC version of the beta, which is also coming to Xbox One, will be ran through EA’s Origin service.

Makes perfect sense. These are the foibles that come with EA as your publisher. I don't think this will hurt Steam at all; and the general consensus is that Origin isn't as bad as it used to be.

Lon3wolf4157d ago

Yeah it's improving, Steam was terrible when first released too.

k3rn3ll4157d ago

I remember the first month of steam, the only reason anybody had it at that time was counterstrikebmade u use it to get to servers. Other than that it wae completely useless

pompombrum4157d ago

Whether it's improving or not, still feels like another service/program I'm being forced to install. All the games are way overpriced and if it wasn't for Battlefield requiring it, it wouldn't even be on my computer as there would be no reason to keep it there.

SnakeCQC4157d ago

origin is ea's download service; so why wouldn't it be on there and speeds are a lot faster than steam. Would i like everything on steam yeah but its 2014 and origin is pretty good.

famoussasjohn4157d ago

For me anyways, my download speeds on Steam when it first launched was bad, but I assume it was because they were bringing in hundreds of millions of people over to download Counter Strike 1.6 lol. Now I get max speed on there, but have always gotten the fastest speeds on Origin as well. I don't have anything negative to say about Origin other than they need to get competitive with deals and promotions. Steams sales kick it's butt completely. Other than that, it's about the same for me, just a portal to run my games through.

SnakeCQC4157d ago

max downloads on steam on average is around 400-600kbs on my 6meg connection while on origin its usually 800kbs-1meg a second. I am in the uk so it could be that the servers here aren't as great as elsewhere.

Lon3wolf4157d ago

I get 15MBps on Steam also in the UK appears you may have another issue?

iRocket4157d ago

There is actually one area where Origin is way ahead of Steam, and it's refund. From Origin you can get your money back in a set amount of time from installation/first launch, instead of having to contact Steam Support and in most cases NOT get your money back.

Daniel_Potter4157d ago

Probably cause origin is limited to EA games only

SnakeCQC4157d ago

@daniel potter steam is the digital store and consumer rights are a thing that steam doesn't adhere to.

Cernunnos4157d ago

Origin actually has 24 hour refund for games, pretty awesome service actually.

I just had an issue with Origin and BF4.

I was FORCED to update, and when I did, I had to restart it. When I did restart, Battlefield 4 was gone.

The only way I can get it back is to re-activate it via e-mail.

Problem.

They want me to check me activeate email from when I first got the game months ago.

That email is deleted and gone.....so now what..

I love my game ?

No support tickets on the site....you can only Live chat...with a 2 hour wait.

F that

I loved BF4....done with EA.

It was also removed from my purchase history.

I bought this in December...when it was %50 off...this is BS

Debaitable4157d ago

So why didn't you go to customer service and change your non - active email to an active email?

So what if live chat is 2 hours, wait like everyone else. You can play a game while you let the chat box wait in the background.

Origin actually isn't bad if you give it a chance. It wasn't great when it first launched, and neither was any other DD platform, but these days it's fast, easy to use, and the download speeds are incredible. It's missing some features I'd like, but if you're just using it to launch your games and browse the web in-game, it's perfectly fine. It's not a Steam replacement, nor is it meant to be, but it's certainly worth using.

people forget how bad Steam was back in 2003 back then news didnt travel as fast as now so people didnt know

LoveForGames4157d ago

Wait it comes out for the PC? Thought it was a Xbox One exclusive!?

So i am pretty much misinformed.

SpiralTear4157d ago

Xbox One
PC
Xbox 360

All of those will get Titanfall.

ITPython4157d ago

Yeah, MS tried as hard as they possibly could to downplay its availability on the 360 and PC as well. And you can be assured that every ad will feature only the XB1.

I'm surprised EA went along with that, as they would make a lot more money off the game if more people were made aware it was also available on PC and especially 360.

Eh...as much as I don't like it, this is to be expected.

Team_Litt4157d ago

EA published game needs EA's Origin...What's next? TitanFall on Xbox One needs Xbox Live?

Convas4157d ago

The amount of uninformed gamers on a so-called "informing" website would shock you.

next is half life 3 needs Steam

Although the late 2000s Turok wasn't my favorite, I would love a new entry. Open world survival with shotguns and dinosaurs. Not sure how we'd get the fusion cannon, but that would be pretty sweet too.

MadLad1018d ago

Lol

All of these games are pretty much universally praised. Outside of Timeshift I literally own all of these.

Venoxn4g1018d ago (Edited 1018d ago )

XIII, The Darkness 2, Far Cry: Blood Dragon, Timesplitters: future perfect, Bulletstorm are awesome games

gurp418d ago

I played them all, they are all good in their own way
I used to be obsessed with FPS games

An ode to Titanfall: The last twitch shooter I'll probably ever enjoy

Windows Central: "Titanfall 1 is being sunset, taken off storefronts by EA. While the servers remain live for now, one has to wonder just how much time it has left. I look back and pay tribute to the last "twitch"-styled shooter I ever truly loved."
