They easily have the demand to do it. Now it is just a question of them keeping the supply coming to capitalize on that demand.

aCasualGamer3798d ago

I'm pretty certain they could sell 10 million by march if they actually produced that many. And if they released a couple more AAA games until then. Right now, the roster for Sony is still small.. and even smaller for Microsoft.

It would've been so awesome to have backwards compatibility for PS3 games. Then you could play your Mortal Kombat, God of War, Last of Us, Beyond Two Souls... with more pixels and better framerate.

I'm hoping it becomes reality and pretty soon.

shutUpAndTakeMyMoney3798d ago (Edited 3798d ago )

They will reach 3.5+ end of year lol

Benchm4rk3798d ago (Edited 3798d ago )

@Acasualgamer

Backwards compatibility doesnt work like that. Either they would of had to use ps3 hardware inside the ps4 box or used an emulator to run the game with the ps4 hardware. Either of which would of resulted in the game running the same or worse in the emulators case. The games wouldn't magically run better on the ps4 unless they did a proper port of the game from the ps3 version to the ps4

Magicite3798d ago

If they could ship more than people can buy, they would reach the target this year :)

vigilante_man3798d ago

They could sell double that amount even triple if they had the units. PS4 has gone viral!

3-4-53798d ago

They need one more Huge game to release before that date then.

What is supposed to release around Feb/March 2014 for PS4 ? I can't remember.

Majin-vegeta3798d ago

Infamous comes out March 21.

Veneno3798d ago

Drive Club needs to come out as well. It got delayed but hopefully it comes out by March at the latest.

_FantasmA_3798d ago

Drive Club. Man I'm fiending for an arcade racing game. Its been too long. Midnight Club 5, I hope it gets resurrected from the dead.

UltimateMaster3798d ago

Only if they can make them in time.

pwnsause_returns3798d ago

I reckon they'll go beyond that point by March.

Thehyph3798d ago

They probably won't raise their estimate because of yield.

My guess is that there will only be 5-6 million out there by March. They'd probably sell more if they could make more.

JackBNimble3798d ago

I agree, I think Sony will sell out with every new shipment of consoles released... at least with in the first 6 months.

Just my opinion , but what do I know? PS4/PC FTW!

Narutone663798d ago

With the way PS4 is going off the shelf in Europe so fast, I'm worried about the supply by the time it goes on sale in Asia. They could definitely reach 5M even more if only they could maintain the supply.

sskspeedmaster3798d ago

as well microsoft with xbox one..

thrust3798d ago

Yeah i agree think both consoles will do very well

Rainstorm813798d ago

How? its lagging behind the PS4 everywhere including America aka Xbox country.....or should i say Olde Xbox country

TheFallenAngel3798d ago

People seem to forget that USA was home to PS1 and PS2.

pyramidshead3798d ago

when there's no PS4s left to buy, Xb1s sales should increase definitely.

thrust3798d ago (Edited 3798d ago )

Nope i disagree, people know what console they want!

if i was going to get a console i would just wait till it was in!

think what you want guys no skin off my back, but both consoles are doing and will do very well

harrisk9543798d ago

Perhaps a few will buy the XB1 if the PS4 is not in stock. However, the PS4 is also being restocked quickly and, for most, that $100 difference is probably worth waiting for a few days. Once we get past the holidays, sales for both systems will slow down anyway. Once we settle into the new console generation, we will really see the sales number difference between the 2 systems. I'm sure there will be an uptick in XB1 sales in March when Titanfall is released. Of course, Infamous:SS is also coming out around that same time...

No doubt that at this point, Sony is beating MS quite handily, not only in sold-through numbers, but also in terms of "most wished for".

pyramidshead3798d ago

@thrust

People have been waiting an age for new systems, if one is unavailable they'll be more tempted to get the other. Especially impulse buying and Christmas coming up. That should help out the XB1 some what.

Rumour has it that Sony can produce 1mil consoles a month though so maybe it won't help them in the long run.

The XB1 needs a pricecut FAST or at least dropping the kinect out of the box to lower it.

itisallaboutps3798d ago

Parents who will get their kids a console for chrismass will get them an xbox one if they are all out of ps4. That 100 dollar lower price tag is attractive

JackBNimble3798d ago

pyramidshead

It ain't 2006 any more, after the crash in 08/09 people think harder about parting with their money. You may be right in some cases or with parents buying xmas gifts, but I doubt that most who want a PS4 and can't find one will settle for an xb1.

harrisk954

I may get Titan fall aswell ... for PC.

FamilyGuy3798d ago (Edited 3798d ago )

lmao, was that suppose to be a joke?

Not saying the X1 is crap or anything but why even bring it up in this article? lol

The X1 sold just above 1 million in all it's released launch territories. The PS4 is well over 2 million.
I personally don't see them achieving the same goal. X1 maybe MAYBE 3 million by March.
PS4 will hit Japan in February, Infamous SS will be on the horizon in March and DriveClub will be out before that. Sony's already dominating and they're set to continue that trend.

Just sayin.

MetaReapre3798d ago

I doubt the xb1 will reach that much in that time but no doubt it will eventually get there. But I think the xb1 sales will be a bit slower.

Easy, they're over 2 million as it is, and out of stock. Once new stock is in, it'll sky rocket some more.

PlayStation: The First 25 Years

The path from the PlayStation 1 to the upcoming PlayStation 5 lines up neatly, but only if you’re looking at it numerically. In actuality, for more than 25 years the PlayStation team has had to navigate some of the industry’s most difficult terrain. During that time, a dedicated team of visionaries, engineers, and software developers established a brand from scratch, propelled it to unprecedented heights, struggled to maintain dominance, and eventually returned to what initially made them so successful.

They sure do and the PS4/Pro and Switch are proof of this!

FallenAngel19842208d ago

I still remember how the misinformed media tried to push a doom and gloom narrative for the future of consoles at the beginning of the decade

Tsar4ever012208d ago

Didn't even notice it earlier but PlayStation already has it's own GAAS as part of it's PSN service model. It's "Free-to-Play" games & "Streaming", ala PSNow as part of it's "Adaptive Monetization ", according to Ex-PlayStation Boss Andrew House.

Consoles have successfully existed for the past 46 years and they’ll successor exist for the next 46 years.

“Former PlayStation CEO Andrew House's Stirring Farewell: "PlayStation Has Always Been About Games"

I’m really going to miss this guy. Thank you for your help bringing PlayStation to where it is today.

NewMonday2331d ago (Edited 2331d ago )

a most fitting farewell, big thanks and good luck to Mr.Andrew House.

if MS want to save the XBox brand they have the perfect man available. and get rid of the trolls like Greenberg/Penello/Nelson and the guy who only talks the talk Phil Spencer.

morganfell2331d ago

But he isn't stepping down, he is stepping up. He is being promoted.

morganfell2331d ago

https://www.sie.com/en/corp...

Announced on the same day people started blabbing he was leaving.

"John Kodera promoted to President and Chief Executive Officer, Andrew House to be appointed Chairman"

Ashlen2331d ago

"Current President and Global CEO Andrew House will transition from operational management of SIE, but will remain with SIE as Chairman through the year to ensure a smooth transition."

He is ending his time at SIE at the end of the year. He hasn't announced any future plans. It's unfortunate I liked him a lot as well, but the reality is he is leaving Sony either to retire or take up a new career somewhere else.

morganfell2331d ago

@Ashlen,

Thanks for that clarification. He will certainly be missed. He stayed through a not so pleasant time when others might have bailed. Great guy with a lot of insight.

Zeke682331d ago

Actually he is taking over Sony Pictures at 2019.
